Chapter 636: Chapter 636

The sound of rain only showed signs of gradually stopping close to dawn.

Tang Sili was first called by the boss to the local hospital to treat Xiao Shuju and Xiao Shuzhu.

The condition of Xiao Shuju and Xiao Shuzhu, instead of being discomfort due to inhalation of gas, would be better described as mental distress having caused psychological issues which then affected their physical health.

In this respect, as Tang Sili specialized in surgery, this was not his forte. After reporting the situation to the boss, the latter told him to rush back up to the mountain to treat another patient.

So, he had to trek a long distance in the heavy rain back to the boss’s estate on the mountain. Fortunately, the rain had let up slightly as he ascended.

As expected, the patient he was now going to see had probably suffered a similar psychological trauma as Xiao Shuju and Xiao Shuzhu. In this area, the only medication a doctor could use were those for calming and sedation.

Upon entering the patient’s room, he realized it was someone he had just met the day before.

"What happened?" Tang Sili asked.

In Zhao Mengjin’s room, only the caretaker, Mother Gu, was present—her daughter and son-in-law were nowhere to be found. To ease her daughter and son-in-law’s minds, Mother Gu took care of Zhao Mengjin as if she were her own daughter.

All through the night, before the doctor arrived, Mother Gu ceaselessly wiped Zhao Mengjin’s sweat, changed the fever-reducing towels, covered her with blankets, and fed her water. She acted not just as a nurse, but as a professional caregiver.

When Tang Sili approached the bedside for a closer examination, he indeed noticed that all the necessary caregiving tools were at hand. Mother Gu had done everything that was possible.

"Have you taken her temperature?"

Hearing the doctor’s question, Mother Gu immediately replied, "Several times already. The fever reached thirty-nine degrees and hasn’t subsided, wavering around thirty-nine point four or five."

"Has she taken any fever-reducing medication?" Tang Sili asked further.

Uncle Qi had some fever-reducing drugs in stock, but considering Zhao Mengjin’s special status, who would dare to let her take any medicine without proper consideration? It was decided to wait for the doctor to make a call.

Mother Gu said, "She’s had sweating ginger soup. The sweat broke out, but the fever hasn’t dropped."

Sweating without a decrease in fever—wasn’t this a risk for dehydration?

Tang Sili felt Zhao Mengjin’s pulse by her wrist, which lay next to the blanket, and said, "Hydration with an IV would be best. She’s not replenishing fluids adequately. She’s also losing nutrients rapidly."

To have an injection? But this wasn’t a hospital, was it? How to proceed without a nurse present? Read full story at 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡⁂𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢⁂𝘯𝘦𝘵

Mother Gu looked bewildered.

Tang Sili took off his coat and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt halfway up his arms.

Watching him, Mother Gu thought he was about to give the patient an injection himself. She had heard that this man was a professor. Good heavens, were they actually having such a distinguished professor perform a nurse’s duties?

Turning back to see Mother Gu’s astonished expression, Tang Sili felt a touch of embarrassment and, with a slight smile, asked, "Is there a problem, ma’am?"

That honorific "ma’am" rendered Mother Gu speechless with embarrassment. She said, "Just call me Auntie. I’m just an auntie; ma’am has never had anything to do with me throughout my life."

It seemed like Tang Sili hadn’t addressed someone in such a manner for a very long time. His patients were usually wealthy or noble, and even if it was just ordinary people who managed to get an appointment with him, he was accustomed to calling them by such noble and elegant terms as sir or ma’am.

Clearly, they were quite pleased to be addressed in such a way, feeling esteemed.

Mother Gu was entirely different.

"Would it be alright to call you Auntie?" Tang Sili’s lips curved into a faint smile again.
