Chapter 25: Chapter 25
The weekend passed in a blur. Olivia and Rebecca were indoors all day binging on movies and eating lots and lots of carbs.
Tekena had called and texted her several times but she'd ignored him, she'd also ignored her mother who had called minutes after Tekena's last call.
Asides the incessant calls from Tekena and her mom, her weekend had been fun, the best in a long time and she was sad to leave the following day.
"You know, you can stay here with me. You don't have to go" Rebecca suggested. Olivia declined politely, she didn't want to impose. As if reading her mind, Rebecca spoke again.
"I'm always alone, company would be nice. I really don't mind" Rebecca said.
"I'll definitely visit during the week, right now I have to speak to my mum. I'm sure she's fuming somewhere and wondering where I am. If I don't go home today, things will only get messier" Olivia said.
Rebecca nodded and didn't press further. "Just know you can come here anytime, I don't mind. I'll even let you know where I keep my spare key in case you decide to show up when I'm at work"
"Awwwn, thank you very much. I'll definitely keep that in mind" Olivia said pulling her friend into a hug.
She was extremely grateful that despite everything that was going on in her life, she had a friend who genuinely cared for her.
Later in the evening, she called for a cab to take her home. While in the cab, she thought about Tekena. Yes she loved him but was he worth the headache? The fan girls, social media pressure, pressure from her parents, that was what being with Tekena entailed and she was tired of it already.
She decided to call her elder brother, Ben. Ben knew how to deal with her parents, especially her mother, he'd know how to handle everything. She opened her Whatsapp app and decided to give him a ring.
His phone rang a few times before he answered. 'Hey bug head' he said playfully. She sighed in relief, the energy was always positive when she spoke to Ben. He was her favorite sibling, Christopher on the hand liked to be on his own, so even as siblings they didn't interact much.
"Hey you, Bug face" she replied smiling. They bantered back and forth for a while before she remembered the issue at hand and sobered up.
"Where are you now, are you with Skye?" Olivia asked. 'No, I'm actually in Canada, Skye is somewhere in Italy. You guys haven't talked?' Ben asked concerned. Skye and Olivia were practically besties, he assumed they spoke everyday.
"Yeaaah, I'm busy with work. I might call her later in the evening" Olivia said rubbing her forehead distractedly.
'Okayyyyy. How's mum, dad and Chris?' Ben asked.
"They're okay, mum is actually why I'm calling" Olivia said.
"Why, is she okay?" Ben asked. "She's being her usual self, I was really hoping you could talk to her on my behalf. I'm really tired of everything. She wants me to marry Tekena and honestly the pressure is really getting to me" It was so good to let it all out to Ben.
'Shit, why didn't you say anything to me sooner? You know what, never mind. I'll call her and I'll talk to her, I'll tell Tekena to back off if I have to. Enough is Enough!' Ben's response revealed how upset he was. He hated how his mother always tried to control their lives. They loved her and she loved them but she did too much and crossed a lot of lines way more than often. Even as their mother, some things were unacceptable now. They were grown ups now and they'd earned the right to make their own decisions.
His mother had tried to force him to leave Skye because she thought Skye wasn't good enough to be his girlfriend. She only approved the relationship after Olivia had told her that Skye's elder sister was now a Fadeyi and that Teddy Wilcox was her closest friend.
Ben didn't want that for his sister, if she decided to get married, it should be to who she loved and only when she was ready. 'I didn't know you were still dating Tekena, you never talk about him anymore' Ben noted.
Olivia sighed remembering the good old days where Tekena was all she talked about. "We're in a rough place, too many people are involved in our relationship and it's just making our relationship an unhappy place. He's...he's famous and I'm really tired of dealing with the whole celebrity life" Olivia groaned.
'I understand, I understand, let me talk to Tekena first then I'll talk to mum' Ben said. When Olivia had told him a few years ago that she'd accepted to date the oil and gas magnate, he'd wondered why Tekena had wanted his sister and if they would be compatible. He hadn't thought much about it because Olivia had been happy then. Now, she wasn't and it wasn't exactly his job to fix it and find her happiness, but he wanted to help put her on the right path.
'Livvy, how about you come to Canada and do your masters or something. That'll give you sometime to grow and focus on yourself without interference from mum' Ben suggested.
Olivia mused over the suggestion for a while. Her mother would definitely not come all the way to Canada to threaten her with an arranged marriage but Tekena.....Tekena never gave up. He was the problem, he had the money and resources to come after her and ruin her peace in Canada. "And what about Tekena?" she asked.
'I'll have a word with him' Ben said curtly. "Thanks" Olivia was grateful.
'You're my sister, my only sister. It's nothing, I'm happy to help' Ben said. The two chatted about other insignificant things before ending the call.
It wasn't surprising at all to see Tekena and Gogo at the dinner table when she got home, always plotting she thought bitterly as she dropped her bag on the table in the hall that was directly opposite the dining room. Gogo and Tekena were speaking silently till she walked into the dining room.
"Where were you Olivia?" Gogo asked harshly.
"Out" Olivia replied with the same tone. "Not with another married man I hope" Gogo said nastily.
"You'll know when the next picture gets out" Olivia retorted. Gogo rolled her eyes "Tekena, I'll give you two some privacy" Gogo huffed. As she walked out of the dining room, Tekena got out of his seat and faced his girlfriend.
"I called you all weekend, you never answered and you didn't bother to call back" he started.
Olivia sighed "I told you I was done!" she said angrily. Why couldn't he just get the message and leave her alone?
"What's the problem Olivia, why are you so mad?" he asked perplexed.
"Why am I mad, why am I mad? I'm mad at you Tekena, I'm mad because you never defend me. Your stupid fans troll me every time I show face on any app, you never say anything in my defense. I'm pretty sure it was one of them who sent my picture to that blog. And what's your solution? I should marry you to lessen the damage. How does that help, how does telling millions of people who do not give a heck about me I was drugged and rape help my condition?" Olivia screamed at him.
"I don't even use social media often, that's why I have Stephanie. How would I know about the trolls if I'm not informed about it. Alright, I made a mistake with the way I handled the proposal, I'm sorry. I didn't think of it that way, your dad suggested...." Tekena was explaining when she cut him off.
"Honestly, just save your explanations. You think you love me Tekena but you don't. I'm just a trophy you want to possess" She said.
Tekena exhaled sharply. "Olivia you don't know what you're talking about"
Olivia shrugged, "Maybe I don't, but I know we're over and we've been over for a long time. Plotting with Gogo won't help you, I'm done. Move on, you're a big catch, I'm sure a lot of your fans would be happy to replace me"
"I wasn't plotting with Gogo, I was telling her to give you a break. I only told her you were on the edge and you needed some time off. Maybe a vacation or something, Olivia I want to help"
"I don't think so. You've done enough. Good bye Tekena"
