Chapter 65: Chapter 65
- Maive's POV -
His eyes were crimson red and he was burning me with his stares. He's in a distance just straight in front of me but I couldn't concentrate as I didn't even understand what my friends were talking about because of his intense stares.
Damn, I tried to look somewhere hoping that he would stop staring at me but when I looked at him again... he was still the same, staring intensely at me. He doesn't know how much those stares affect my body, it is making the butterflies in my stomach insane. My chest was beating fast and loud.
But while looking Daxton's way, I saw a man in black coming towards him. I knew that he also sensed the footsteps of that guy, but still his dark eyes remained on me. How come he looked so dangerous but deadly handsome in his simple suit? Even when the guy whispered in his ears, he had no plan on breaking his intense stare at me.
My heart is still beating uncontrollably, damn, he is making me crazy. He could stare at someone else, divert his eyes with this exquisite place but why does he choose to stare at me? Somehow... I felt so familiar with this feeling... the feeling that his intense stares affect me.
When another guy came to Daxton and did the same thing. That's when he placed the glass that he was holding on the bar counter and left. I wonder where he is going, though. I wonder what those men in black wanted from him.
However, when he was out of my sight, that was the only time that I was able to breathe normally. I did not realize that I was almost running out of air. I felt a little at ease when he was out of my sight and that he was no longer staring at me intensely.
I looked at Tobias at my side, he was holding a glass of wine now. I could see that he is irritated and I wonder what makes him this way. Did he notice that I was staring at Daxton? Probably, there's a chance that he did.
"Are you okay, Maive?" I suddenly looked at Gabriella when she asked me.
"I'm good, why did you ask?" I asked, confused. Was I too preoccupied earlier?
"Nothing, you seemed a bit uncomfortable." She stated.
I smiled weakly, "I'm not just fond of this kind of event."
"Same here." Anne agreed.
"Well, we have no choice." Gabriella sighed.
Suddenly, I noticed some guy coming to our table, he's kind of cute though. I just realized that it was Tobias' friend when they nod at each other.
"Hey, how are you doing?" The guy asked when he got closer.
"We're doing good. You are?" Gabriella answered with a sweet smile.
"Oh, it's rude of me not to introduce myself. By the way, I am Charles." He said, and I feel good about him, he seems easy to approach.
"He's my friend from the Department." Tobias added.
"So, who are these pretty ladies here, Tobias? Mind if you introduce them?" Charles said, smiling cheekily.
Tobias snorted but still introduced us, "This is my bestfriend Maive and her friends, Gabriella and Anne."
Charles looked at me Mischievously, "Oh, so you are Maive. I'm so happy that I finally met you," He extended his hand on me and since he is Tobias friend, I took his hand but I was surprised when he leaned closer to me but not too close and said, "I heard so much about you from my friend." He winked.
But Tobias suddenly took Charles' hand from me, "Why did you come here?"
Charles smiled widely and pointed to a table where there are two more guys who are now looking at our table. "Care to join us?"
Tobias gestured to those two guys and then he faced me, "I'll be back," he whispered.
I nodded and that was his cue to go to the table where his friends are.
"You are suited together," Anne commented.
I waved my hand as a sign of disapproval. "We're just friends," I said honestly.
Gabriella intervened and said, "Oh, you are breaking his heart, Maive."
I was about to tell her that it was nothing like that, when the emcee spoke which made us divert our attention towards the front.
The emcee started to talk about how nice this night was... its importance, representation, and such things. I couldn't really focus on what she was trying to say as I felt a little dizzy. The champagne has probably taken effect on my system.
"Now, let us all clap for Mr. Clark Astrid."
My system got a little composed upon hearing that family name. When I looked in front, I saw a middle-aged man. He looks familiar... After staring at him, I realized that he looked familiar only because he resembles Daxton... from the eyes to his nose, but he just looked a bit old. He is probably Daxton's father.
"Time has flown so fast, it felt like a few days ago when I was the one attending the gala. And now, my son is the one enjoying this special night," he chuckled before continuing. "After some time, probably four years from now or maybe a decade, my son Daxton will be the next person standing here giving a speech."
He gestured his hand to point at Daxton. He was on the table in front where the other two members of the 3K's were also seated and to my surprise, I saw Cyrus staring at Anne. I then looked at Anne to see her focused on the speech given in front. But when I looked at Daxton, he was glaring at me and I could see that he was mad.
He should be happy because his father is giving him the attention of all the people here in this event. He is the center of attention but it looks like... I caught his attention.
"My son, Daxton Astrid, together with his fiance, Yskela Ruthfield, will be standing here in the near future. I couldn't help but be sentimental, knowing how fast time passes..."
I couldn't understand the next words his father said after that. I could hear the voices, the claps, but I couldn't really comprehend as my chest began to tighten. I have seen this coming, I actually know this... but hearing it this time, makes my heart shattered. I can't believe that I have to be slapped with the truth tonight.
