Chapter 55: Chapter 55

- Maive's POV -

The class started quietly, but I was not at ease as I kept my senses focused on Daxton. I couldn't help it, my body and my mind seemed to be satisfied with the thoughts about him. I don't even know what the lesson keeps tackling by the Professor.

I sighed, giving up learning, I just couldn't put it in my head. How could Daxton control my heart... my feelings and even my mind without doing anything!? Aish.

"Oh, before I forget. Please prepare for a gala night this friday evening," our professor suddenly announced. "Now, class is dismissed."

I looked at Gabriela and Anne for some answers.

"Just like a prom night... but a lot more complicated and surprising." Anne said, reading my thoughts.

The room was filled with excitement and joy as soon as those words were heard from our professor. Our classmates seemed to be excited for that gala as they started talking about it from that moment.

I took a look at the side of 3K's but they seemed to not care about it. They actually look bored as soon as they hear it and fix their things ready to go out.

"That only means, we'll have to wear elegant dresses for the whole night," Anne sighed.

Hearing it, that made me sigh too. I experienced prom night back when I was in high school. It was great... only for people who are admired and looked upon by other people. But for those individuals who had always been bullied, like me, it was nothing but a slap that you have less. It was kind of tiring to wear high heels all night... only to get looked disgusted by other people.

"How about we do not attend?" I suggested, getting a little excited with the thought that I could lie on my back and relax all night without the need to socialize.

Gabriella shook her head, "We have no choice, Maive. Every student of Astrid University must attend."

"A compulsory gala, just great. What kind of rule is that..." I mumbled, while I was thinking on how I could get away from that night. I am really not fond of such things, socializing is too tiring.

I looked around and realized that only three of us were left in the room.

"Let's go for lunch?" Gabriella excitedly said.

I smiled and nodded, "Let's go."

We walked out of the room as Anne just followed behind quietly. She seemed to be distracted ever since earlier and I wonder why.

After some minutes, we reached the restaurant, which was found inside the University.

"I'll go get the food." Gabriella said with a smile and we nodded.

Despite the wound received by Gabriella with that accident she meant, she's still lively as always.

Anne and I headed to the table in the corner as she just sat and sighed looking at the outside through the window glass.

"What's wrong Anne?" I asked worriedly, it seemed like she was carrying a burden she couldn't tell.

She looked at me and shook her head, "Oh nothing." She said and I just nodded. If she doesn't want to say it, then I won't insist.

Not long after, Gabriella came with a tray of food, good for the three of us. "It's my treat today, so eat well okay." She said,

I smiled and said, "Thank you."

"Thank you." Anne said as well.

The lunch was quiet, except for the other students who kept gossiping with one another. I could really feel that something is wrong with Anne and Gabriella but they can't even say it.

After we finished eating, I don't even know if these two really did eat well because their food seemed to have not gotten even half. I sighed, "I hope you understand that we're friends here. If you have a problem, you can tell me or if you're not comfortable telling me, then at least tell someone you are comfortable with." I stated, I couldn't handle the aura they are releasing anymore.

Anne took a deep breath as she looked down, "I'm sorry, I... I just couldn't say it here." She said, looking around, referring to a large crowd.

Gabriella was quiet who seemed to be thinking deeply.

"Shall we go somewhere?" I asked with a weak smile.

"Let's go, I'm already full." Gabriella suddenly said without hesitation.

We fixed our things and headed somewhere until we reached the rooftop.

"Now, spill it." I started standing in front of them.

Anne and Gabriella were sitting on a bench as they looked down.

Anne sighed, "M-my father is sick but..." she seemed to have stopped not knowing whether she should continue or not.

"It's okay, Anne. Don't say it if you can't. I'm not forcing you. Your father will soon be fine, don't overthink okay?" I said but she just shook her head.

"I'm not dumb, Maive. I knew that his illness couldn't be cured, however, he kept battling for the territory despite his illness. I can't even stop him!" She exclaimed as tears fell out of her eyes. She cried and Gabriella immediately pulled her into a comfort hug.

I suddenly felt pity, even though I couldn't understand a part of it... but I feel pity for my friend.

"I'm sorry, Anne." I only said, not knowing what to say.

"I-it's okay Maive, it's n-not your fault and I'm glad that I poured the pain within me. I felt better." She said as she wiped her tears, trying to be strong despite the truth that laid ahead of her.

I took a step closer to Anne and patted her back, "Your father must have his reason. Just express your love for him the way you can. Make him happy as long as you can, I'm sure he appreciates it."

"Maive is right, Anne. You know your father, he loves the pack more than his life and serving it makes him happy." Gabriella stated comfortingly.

She nodded and smiled weakly, "I am doing what I can for him, and I will do what I could. Thank you guys." She suddenly faced Gabriella, "Now, it's your turn Gab. What happened to you?"

Gabriella smiled in sadness as she looked into space in front. "You are aware of what's happening right? Vampires attacking the werewolves." She said and that made me confused, how is it related to the accident she had yesterday?

Anne and I nodded.

She sighed, "And you know that werewolves are mad with vampires..."

I'm not getting her point but I waited for her to continue her words.

"Yesterday, they just wanted to protect themselves from me... they wanted me to disappear... because despite being a werewolf... I am a vampire as well." She sadly stated and I was shocked that I didn't realize I gasped after knowing the truth.
