Chapter 13: Chapter 13
Bad luck and mysteries have been part of my life and I don't think I could get rid of them. But recently, I guess I've been lucky to have a lovely family who welcomed me as their own.
Time flew so fast. I was able to pass the exam which made me accepted for high school. I was able to enter school here without any bullies as I experienced before in my village. It was probably because of Tobias. I just found out that he is well-known at that school and I was usually with him because he is the only friend I have. That probably made any bullies far from me, well, aside from that, some of my classmates would usually look ruthless and arrogant but somehow as their eyes fell at the bite mark on my neck... they mysteriously turned kind.
I'm worried though, why? That's the question that always bothers me. One time I saw a classmate of mine saw the bite mark in my neck, he... suddenly turned scared as if... he saw a monster in it.
I am curious, and I wanted to know why.
Tobias is ahead of me by one year at school which makes us only together during break time or when there are no classes. In my first month in school, I was barely able to make friends. Some of them refused to acknowledge my presence... but that's better than getting bullied.
Despite the kindness that some of my classmates have shown, they have not dared to become friends with me. I tried to reach out but they seemed to be getting more distant. I also wonder why... does it have to do with the bite mark on my neck?
"Maive, could you bring food to your Uncle Silas?"
I was out of thought when I heard Aunt Vera asked me.
She is currently sick; her fever is high. It was probably because she got wet from the sudden burst of a storm yesterday. I decided not to attend school for that reason, I needed to take care of Aunt Vera.
"Of course, Aunt. I will be back in a while. Just rest, okay?" I responded politely.
She nodded and gave me a faint smile.
I went to the kitchen and prepared the broth soup that I had cooked earlier. I have learned to cook from watching Aunt Vera. Uncle Silas was currently in the forest because of the sudden burst of the storm yesterday, his crops were damaged and he was trying to check or harvest some of his crops today that he could retrieve.
Before leaving the house, I took a peek at Aunt Vera. She was peacefully sleeping. With that, I left with the prepared food that I should bring to Uncle Silas.
While I was walking inside the forest, I could feel some eyes being darted towards me. I ignored it though because I already got used to it. Maybe my instinct was just toying me by having a creepy feeling every time I was out of the house.
To my surprise, two men appeared in front of me out of nowhere which made me step back from shock and surprise.
They were the same men who had almost harassed me in the dark alley before when I went to Tobias' house. At that moment, I already realized that this would lead to no good.
"W-What do you want from me?" I stuttered from nervousness and I could even feel my heart pounding fast.
A devilish smirk appeared on their faces that made me shiver out of fear.
"Do you really think you will get away from us?" One of them spoke, gritting his teeth. On the other hand, his company chuckled.
"I h-have done nothing wrong with you!" I exclaimed trying to sound brave when in fact, my heart was pounding extremely fast from fear that I wanted to run away but I knew it would be difficult.
Both of them laughed at that remark of mine as they looked at each other.
"Your scent was calling for us," The second man stated.
That made me confused. "W-what?" I asked, trembling out of fear. Just then I remembered the time when men were chasing after my family which made my hands clenched.
They laughed once again. "You really have no idea, don't you?"
I gulped when I saw them approaching me. I started taking steps backwards as they do take steps forward.
"Your scent... it is out of the world." The tanned man said as they continued to approach me. They looked as if they were put into a spell and were addicted to me.
I was shivering out of fear and it seemed like my mind turned blank, "P-please don't come near me..." I stated out of fear. My feet continued taking steps back.
"Don't be scared. We'll just... get a taste of you." The other said while roaming his eyes on my body... then to my neck.
I trembled even more upon hearing those words. To my surprise, my back landed in a tree which made me stop stepping backwards. I was cornered and eventually, they were already in front of me.
The tanned man was about to place his face near me when I kicked his private organ which made him groan out of pain. However, the other man got pissed that he immediately grabbed my hair.
"Shit!" I shouted out of pain.
Trying to get away from his grip, I smashed the food container that I was holding in his face. That made me get away from him. I quickly ran for my life after that. With the adrenaline rush running inside me, I was sure that I was able to run fast and away from those men.
However, to my surprise, minutes after running away from them, two werewolves appeared in front of me that made me stumble to my knees. I was taken aback at the sight of werewolves, the fear that I am feeling became more intense that my eyes were wide and I was agape. I couldn't believe that the men who blocked me earlier were these animals in front of me.
I suddenly remembered my father who turned into a werewolf which made my eyes blurry out of tears.
'You have nowhere to go,' One of the werewolves spoke, he didn't open his mouth but I heard it... in my mind which made me confused, however, fear is still dominating. Fear is just an understatement of what I am feeling right now.
I was pretty sure that the werewolf who spoke was the tanned man who had tried to hurt me.
Trembling out of fear and being in the ground, I tried to crawl, backing away from them. But they just approached me as they did earlier, only this time that they were in their wolf form.
I couldn't believe my eyes that I got to see werewolves like my father. I couldn't believe that werewolves actually exist.
'You have nowhere to go,' One of them enthusiastically said. 'I suggest that you should not try to escape or else... you will really end up getting dead.'
I shook my head as I refused to accept that fate. I have survived attacks from cruel men before, I need to survive once again or else everything that I have worked for trying to live normally will be put into nothing.
With determination in me, I immediately stood up from the slump. As I stood up, I threw the sand in my fist directly into their eyes. The sand particles got into their eyes which made them blinded for some seconds. I take that as a cue to run as fast as I can after them.
I have one thing in my mind, I need to live... I have to.
