Chapter 289: Chapter 289

Li Xianglu struggled desperately, pushing away the person embracing her with all her might, but Qin Xi held her tightly in his arms, refusing to let go no matter how much she fussed.

Not long after, the person in his arms stopped struggling, and Qin Xi let out a sigh of relief, about to speak, when he felt the wetness of tears on the back of his exposed hand. He quickly grabbed a towel from the bedside to wipe her eyes, whispering comfortingly, "In both my lives, the person I’ve loved the most is only you."

This was the first time Qin Xi openly admitted that he had been reborn. Li Xianglu’s eyelids fluttered, and, stifling a sob, she asked, "Did you really marry her?"

Qin Xi sighed, knowing that the inevitable had come, and shifted the person in his arms a little closer to his shoulder socket before responding, "I did marry her, but we divorced after three years, and afterwards I never remarried."

Li Xianglu’s mouth puckered, on the verge of tears again—so he had married her. What Shen Yuehong said was true, she had stolen someone else’s husband.

Qin Xi’s voice was calm as he spoke from above her head: "In my past life, I was coerced into it. In this life, I never once thought of having any relationship with her. Even without you appearing, it wouldn’t have been her!"

Li Xianglu pouted, knowing her anger was somewhat inexplicable but feeling aggrieved nonetheless, and unable to hold back, she began sobbing again.

Qin Xi sighed and embraced her, gently saying, "Alright, stop crying. In this life, I only love you, and no one else."

Li Xianglu looked up, with a pitiful expression, and asked, "Even if we have a baby, will you only love me?"

Qin Xi’s mouth twitched slightly, but he nodded firmly, "Yes, even with a baby, I’ll only love you."

Li Xianglu felt a bit better and wiped her face with a towel before asking with confusion, "Is Shen Yuehong the same as you?"

Qin Xi knew Li Xianglu was asking whether Shen Yuehong had also been reborn. As far as he understood, she had not, but the most pressing matter at hand was how to deal with Shen Yuehong.

He touched Li Xianglu’s swollen eyes from crying and sighed, "She’s just dreamed about some events from her past life, not many, just a few significant ones. Even if she goes out and talks about it, no one will believe her."

But Li Xianglu shook her head, her expression serious as she said, "Some people will believe it. Once some things are verified, they definitely will."

Qin Xi frowned. That was also true. Now the question was, what was the best way to deal with Shen Yuehong? Lock her up? But where?

Qin Xi was by no means a soft-hearted or indecisive person. Some people repeatedly crossed his line, and indeed, it was his own covert operation that persuaded Shen Yuehong to leave.

Originally, after Jiang Xinhua’s death, there were no witnesses left, and Shen Yuehong, who was involved with Jiang Xinhua, had no more liabilities. There was no concrete evidence on the police side, so the school did not deal with her. Therefore, he let people continuously complain to the principal about Shen Yuehong’s personal conduct, as well as various issues related to Jiang Xinhua.

Over time, the school, considering previous incidents, had become disappointed with Shen Yuehong and so they arranged for someone to discuss her withdrawal from the school.

However, it was at this critical juncture that Shen Yuehong dreamed about the events of her past life.

But what use was dreaming about them? She wasn’t reborn and didn’t have that kind of hardened, decisive nature that comes with experience from a past life. At best, she had premonitions about some future events.

Li Xianglu washed up in the bathroom and changed her clothes before joining Qin Xi in the front courtyard. The housing was exceptionally comfortable now, with easy-to-clean and non-slip frosted stone slabs covering the ground, all neatly laid out. As the two walked through the corridor towards the front, they could see that a round plastic greenhouse had already been erected in their own courtyard, scattered within which were dots of green plants.

Upon reaching the front courtyard, they saw Sister Xing carrying a tray towards the living room. The dining room was conveniently located on the west side, and upon entering, they saw Su Yan seated in the living room chatting with Lu Anna, sizing up the two newcomers from head to toe.

Mr. Li was reviewing chess moves by the small western stove on the east side, and he called out to greet them as they came in.

Li Xianglu poured two cups of hot tea, gave one to Qin Xi, and sat down with the other in her hands.

Without saying anything to Anna, Su Yan called Mr. Li to wash his hands and have dinner once the food was ready.

Dinner was lavish that evening, with six dishes and a soup. While enjoying the old duck soup, Li Xianglu suddenly thought of Li Huan and asked, "Hasn’t she come?"

Su Yan looked up at Li Xianglu and said, "She’s said she needed to go back and won’t return until next spring."

Oh, Li Xianglu nodded, continued to diligently tackle her meal, and after dinner, helped clean up the table. Only then did Su Yan ask Li Xianglu and Anna to take a bath, leaving Qin Xi behind.

Once outside, Li Xianglu asked Anna, "Did Grandma Su ask you something?"

Lu Anna nodded and said, "Yes, she asked why we hadn’t come, so I told her about our encounter with Shen Yuehong. Has Shen Yuehong gone mad, talking about past lives?"

Li Xianglu remained silent; of course, there were past lives, or she wouldn’t have been so nervous.

Meanwhile, Mr. Li called Qin Xi to sit down and poured himself some water, leaving it aside. Su Yan then asked, "What do you plan to do with Shen Yuehong?"

Qin Xi looked over, his expression unchanged. He had long suspected that the two elders were doubting his and Xiangxiang’s relationship, but he wasn’t sure how much they really knew.

Qin Xi said, "I am thinking of locking her up for now."

Su Yan nodded and said, "Then I’ll start preparing on my end."

Qin Xi had no objection and agreed with a nod. With Su Yan taking action, there shouldn’t be any problems. Her methods were much more ruthless than his own, and she might likely send Shen Yuehong straight to a mental institution.

Mr. Li, however, was worried about his granddaughter, asking about her emotional state and instructing them to take good care, before finally sending them away.

After they left, Su Yan asked, "This Qin Xi really is as interesting as you said. But I’m curious about what your past life was like?"

Mr. Li looked troubled and after a long while said, "It’s probably not good. This boy opposed my adopting a son from the Sanhe Family from the start. His thinly veiled comments suggested the boy was a white-eyed wolf, and I’m afraid my later years would have been tough, wouldn’t they?"

Su Yan stepped forward and pinched Li Huai Ren, saying, "Old fool, what nonsense are you talking about? Once we catch Shen Yuehong and question her, won’t we know everything? Since Xiangxiang’s appearance was an exception, that means our lives in this generation will be changed too."

Li Huai Ren nodded and said, "Yeah, Xiangxiang is an exception. Could it be that God felt sorry for my pitiful past life and sent this child to compensate me?"

Su Yan glared at him, grabbed Li Huai Ren by the ear, and headed towards the bedroom: "Then let’s just make one of our own, that way Xiangxiang will have a companion."
