Chapter 282: Chapter 282
Mr. Li stood up, frowning and asked, "Did she say who she was?"
Li Xianglu nodded and said, "She did. She said she is one of your daughters, adopted, named Li Huan, but she also said that you abandoned her."
Mr. Li sat down again with a complex expression and it took a long while before he spoke, "What else did she say?"
Li Xianglu continued, "She asked about your health. I told her the truth, and she seemed quite worried."
At this point, Li Xianglu carefully observed Mr. Li’s expression.
Li Huai Ren hadn’t expected it to be this troublesome girl, but what about that bottle?
Mr. Li couldn’t figure it out, but if it was indeed that troublesome girl, then there was no need to be so guarded. He didn’t believe she could be harmful to that extent.
So, he said to Li Xianglu, "Just say you fainted, and when you woke up, you were at the station and didn’t know anything."
Li Xianglu nodded in agreement, while Qin Xi looked somewhat displeased, thinking that even if they wanted to understand the situation, they shouldn’t have knocked someone out and taken them away.
The people outside clearly didn’t believe the explanations provided by Mr. Li and Li Xianglu, but since Mr. Li had spoken, they dared not say anything, and Tian Tian and Lin Dongxue were sent back at the time.
With Sister Xing not around, Li Xianglu went to prepare food; the grandfather had not eaten since noon, and Qin Xi had only nibbled on a steamed bun.
Noodles were the most convenient. In the Storage Ring, there were pre-rolled Saozi Noodles and bone broth. She fried some pork and added it to the ox bone soup, poured it over the noodles. Mr. Li ate one and a half bowls, Qin Xi directly had three, and Old Qi, who arrived later, ate four bowls and still complained there wasn’t enough.
Qin Xi’s face darkened, commanded to pack things up, and decided to send him back the next day. However, upon hearing this, Old Qi wiped his mouth and said he was a bit busy and went to the back yard.
After finishing the meal, the dishes were soaked in water, and the three returned to the living room. By now, it was eight o’clock in the evening; drinking tea was not an option as it would affect their sleep, so they simply made a large pot of chrysanthemum tea with some rock sugar, served everyone a cup, and then sat down to sort through a large bag of items.
Mr. Li stood up and checked each item, finally picking up two boxes of ginseng from the table and examining them closely before sighing, "Keep these for now, and we’ll see."
Li Xianglu curiously widened her eyes, "Grandfather, is she your daughter?"
Mr. Li sighed, "Twenty-four years ago, I adopted a daughter. Ah Yin should have told you about her. This child looked a lot like her, and I took her in because my heart softened."
Li Xianglu eagerly asked, "And then?"
Mr. Li, unwilling to say more, sighed, "Then she left."
Li Xianglu wanted to ask more but was interrupted by Qin Xi, "Xiangxiang, tidy these things up. I’m going to boil some water for grandfather. It has been a long day. Let him have a bath before sleep."
Mr. Li was indeed tired, mainly from being frightened and anxious. That bottle belonged to that person, and originally he thought that person had come looking for him, especially since Xiangxiang had disappeared, which worried him tremendously.
Only to find out that it was that foul girl who sent those things, what does this girl have to do with that person?
Since there was a connection, why come to him? To show up and act all mysterious.
Li Xianglu glanced at those valuable items and, apart from two boxes of pastries she hung in a basket on the side of the kitchen for her grandfather to eat occasionally, she packed away everything else.
The meat at home was also running low. Li Xianglu took out a rib, some brisket, and four fish and stored them in the fridge. These were items Qin Xi had procured recently, treating her like an endlessly powered fridge!
Qin Xi boiled the water, carrying two big buckets into Mr. Li’s room. The house had two rolling bathtubs, so for bathing, water had to be boiled and carried in.
Li Xianglu prepared the dough, then took out a small bit of saffron and placed it in the water, set Mr. Li’s change of clothes aside, and then left.
Qin Xi helped Mr. Li scrub his back, dumped the water after, and seeing that he was asleep, then closed the door and returned to the back. Li Xianglu had locked the door; Qin Xi knocked, and only then did she crawl out of the bathtub, opened the door, and slipped back in.
Qin Xi’s expression darkened as he picked up the towel hanging beside the bath bucket to help wipe his back and asked, "Any side effects after the sedatives?"
Li Xianglu, who was initially facing away, turned around, revealing her upper body which wasn’t submerged in water, as her pale delicate arms rested on the brown wooden tub looking somewhat coquettish, "Dizziness."
Seeing this, Qin Xi lifted her from the water, wrapped her in a bath towel, and carried her to the bed.
He switched off the ceiling light.
He thought a lot, and after knowing she was back and feeling the real sensation of her in his arms, he became even more certain of his feelings.
After Li Xianglu’s fit of rage, Qin Xi’s behavior normalized, treating her even better than before.
A month of classes had passed, and on a usual Friday afternoon, the two returned to see someone kneeling at their house’s entrance, with the front door wide open.
