Chapter 266: Chapter 266
Qin Xi somewhat helplessly asked: "Where’s the thing?"
After a satisfying meal, Lao Qi really didn’t want to move but still stood up, lifted the object from the corner of the wall, and said: "It’s set for half an hour. The device is quite nice—very advanced. But it’s obviously the work of a rookie strictly following a manual. If it were me, I’d swap out the wire colors. You guys would explode if you cut the wrong one!" However, he didn’t ask why this thing ended up with him and still had twenty minutes on the timer.
Hearing this, Li Xianglu’s face turned pale, grateful that the device wasn’t made by a professional. Otherwise, even if a bomb disposal expert arrived, one wrong move could blow up the whole auditorium, with casualties impossible to estimate.
Qin Xi frowned and said: "Alright, come into the city with me. What are you doing staying here? My wife cooks really delicious food. You can come over and eat with us when she’s home on summer vacation."
Brightened by the idea, Lao Qi hesitated, glanced at the empty, large basin, and eventually nodded: "Okay, come pick me up the day after tomorrow. I found something interesting in the mountains that I want to confirm."
Qin Xi frowned and asked: "What is it?"
Rolling his eyes and waving his hand dismissively, Lao Qi headed straight back into the house, unwilling to share with Qin Xi.
Qin Xi was speechless, he put the disassembled explosive on the table into his backpack, and then told Li Xianglu: "Pack everything up, we might need it someday."
Seeing Qin Xi step out the door first, Li Xianglu merely touched her backpack and it disappeared, yet she was somewhat skeptical—when would they ever need explosives?
Late into the night, around two o’clock, the two arrived at the Siheyuan. Before getting out of the car, Qin Xi told the driver in front: "Check on what that old thing is up to, and don’t let him cause any trouble."
The driver acknowledged and drove away.
Li Xianglu was extremely puzzled—what was the relationship between this driver and Qin Xi? Why did it feel like the driver was working under Qin Xi? Could it be that Qin Xi was involved with Lao Ba, mingling in the underworld?
Qin Xi seemed oblivious to Li Xianglu’s strange look, knocked on Mr. Li’s window outside his room to inform that they had returned. The clear voice of Mr. Li came from inside; it seemed he hadn’t slept at all.
Li Xianglu heard it too and felt some guilt inside. Grandpa was old and usually went to sleep by nine, and now it was past two because he had been worried about them.
They hurried to the back, entered the room, Qin Xi took care of mixing the water, and after a simple rinse, they lay down.
Qin Xi gently patted the person in his arms and whispered: "Good baby, go to sleep. I reckon people will come to question us early tomorrow morning."
Li Xianglu had been waiting for Qin Xi to inquire about the Storage Ring, but seeing that he had no intention of asking, she let go of her concerns, and sleepiness immediately overcame her. In almost five minutes, her breathing deepened.
Qin Xi looked at the sleeping face beside him in the dark, his lips curving into a smile. Actually, he too wanted to ask about that magical item used for storing things, but he feared it would be too abrupt and make the girl nervous. It was better to wait until she was ready to talk about it.
Almost as Qin Xi had predicted, people showed up before eight the next day. This time they didn’t take them to the precinct and just made a record in the yard.
After the record, Li Xianglu gobbled down four big meat buns and drank two bowls of millet and mung bean porridge before she satisfiedly sighed.
Having not eaten properly for two days, the food tasted even sweeter once she regained her appetite.
Su Yan, sitting nearby, frowned deeply and her gaze unavoidably fell onto Li Xianglu’s flat belly—her eyes widened: "You’re not pregnant, are you?" Otherwise, why would she be able to eat so much?
Li Xianglu blinked, touched her belly, and froze in place.
Qin Xi, who was sipping porridge, was so shocked by Su Yan’s words that he choked and violently coughed.
Li Xianglu hurriedly helped him pat his back, complaining: "Grandma Su really shouldn’t joke like that. See, you’ve scared Qin Xi."
Frowning, Su Yan said: "What’s there to be afraid of? It’s normal for married couples to have children. Or if you’re pregnant, are you not planning to keep it?"
Qin Xi felt two particularly sharp gazes scanning him—one from Mr. Li and one from the Queen Su Yan. He quickly clarified: "No, of course, we want to. It’s just that Xiangxiang is still so young, we planned to have a baby after graduation." Actually, they had taken precautions after the first time, so Li Xianglu shouldn’t be pregnant. Now, at 21, getting pregnant seemed a bit too early. It would be better to wait until after graduation when they’d be both physically and mentally mature.
With this, the two shifted their scrutinizing gazes. Li Xianglu checked her own belly. It was just a two-day delay—it probably wasn’t anything. While they were talking, someone knocked on the door. An all too familiar commotion could be heard outside.
ps: Combined two updates into one. I haven’t eaten until now. You ask why? Because I ate yesterday and I’m not hungry at all.
