Lu Anna had the security department send the patient to the military hospital with which they had made prior arrangements. The security folks were initially skeptical, wondering why not send to the nearest hospital as it’s an emergency, but why choose the military hospital a kilometer or two further away.

However, they didn’t ask too much and went straight there. On the way, driving quite fast, Xu Xin became emotionally unstable and began sobbing, and Li Xianglu, sitting beside her, couldn’t tell if it was pain or grievance that made her cry.

Since the car could only take four people, Xiao Chong was sent back.

Iro, sitting in the front, turned her head to look back several times as if she wanted to say something but then hesitated, until Lu Anna shook her head at her.

Eventually, no one spoke.

The hospital had been informed over the phone; the doctor on night duty was already up and waiting. Two people escorted the patient in, while Li Xianglu followed behind, carrying items both large and small.

When the driver closed the car door, he noticed a dark, reflective spot on the back seat and, unable to resist, he wiped it. Under the streetlight, it appeared bright red, alarming him. With a somewhat complex look, he glanced at the figures that had vanished into the hospital entrance, shook his head, and cleaned up the mess with a burlap sack before leaving.

As soon as Xu Xin entered the hospital, she was taken to the diagnosis room. Lu Anna whispered to the doctor they had contacted, who indicated understanding and then closed the door.

Li Xianglu, looking like she was aware of the situation, asked Lu Anna and Iro, "What’s going on? It seems like you know what’s happening?"

Iro glanced at Lu Anna, sighed after receiving a nod of approval, and said, "Anna and I were sitting behind the sports field early in the school year when we overheard Xu Xin arguing with her boyfriend."

Arguing? Does that have something to do with this?

Li Xianglu furrowed her brows as Xu Xin continued, "Xu Xin was worried about getting pregnant, and her boyfriend said it wouldn’t happen. She got a bit angry, saying she felt something was wrong."

Could it be that Xu Xin got pregnant right after school started?

Just as Li Xianglu was about to ask more, the door to the diagnosis room opened, and the doctor came out with a particularly grave expression, saying, "There’s an extremely urgent situation; you need to notify her parents."

Doctor Zhou nodded and sighed, "If she had gone to a standard hospital from the start, this wouldn’t have happened. She was already three months pregnant when she went to the hospital; this is sheer recklessness!"

Lu Anna quickly gathered her spirits, "Doctor Zhou, let us go in and ask her. Now that a hysterectomy is the only option, even if her parents find out, the result will be the same—so let’s ask her first."

An hour later, the surgery was done, and Xu Xin was directly moved to the ward, by then it was already five o’clock in the morning.

Li Xianglu noted the time; it was Monday and there were no classes first thing, but she had a lecture at ten.

The three of them sat quietly in the ward, and thanks to Lu Anna’s arrangement, it was a two-bed room with one bed empty. They all sat on the other vacant bed watching Xu Xin, whose face was as pale as paper.

Li Xianglu thought that maybe it’d be good to fall asleep; how would Xu Xin face everything after waking up?

A little after six o’clock, Iro was about to go buy some food when Doctor Zhou came in with two men.

The two men, one was Qin Xi, the other was Xu Xin’s boyfriend Meng Gang.

Meng Gang entered the room, saw Xu Xin’s pale face, and couldn’t help but cover his mouth, his shoulders starting to shake.

Seeing this, the three girls left, giving space to the two of them.

Li Xianglu was surprised to see Qin Xi, so she asked him about it.

Qin Xi explained helplessly, "This evening, your roommate Wang Ke ran over to our dorm to find Meng Gang, saying Xu Xin had appendicitis, but Meng Gang has already moved out. I only found out where he stayed after asking someone at six o’clock, so I went and fetched him."
