Chapter 68: Chapter 68

RYAN POV

I shook my head, taking strides toward her, as I held her hand.

"Ryan, you are back.”She looked surprised.

I couldn't help but took note, she didn't use a pet name for me. Great!

That was probably the least thought I should have right now.

“Milady, I can explain. You don't have to leave.”I voiced out, and I was sure sadness was boldly written on my face right now.

Her laughter erupted, and I was lost for some seconds. The light illuminated on her face, making her look radiant. Her blonde hair falling over her face.

She did the most unexpected thing, as she held me in an embrace. I felt lost, as her smell wafted through my nostrils. It reminded me of faint soothing fragrance.

"Ariel. Are you…" She pinched me, as I choked slightly on my words.

"Can you keep quiet already? I'm not leaving you.”

Just like a gust of air, I felt relief and calmness instantly, my inside slowly turning into jelly. I was happy.

It felt good to have a wife like her, but I still could not understand her change in countenance all of a sudden. She was furious at me earlier, but changed.

"I need to explain something to you.”I spoke out, the long embrace suddenly ending abruptly.

Her eyes bored into mine, as she smiled.

“You always smell nice.”She complemented.

That got me as I blushed.

"Seriously.”I couldn't speak further as I gave in to laughter, especially at her funny face.

I drew her as we landed on the bed.

"I didn't know Evelyn was still alive, not until the last time I went to Italy. I'm sorry I didn't speak up sooner.”I explained, as I worked slightly on her palms.

It was soft and beautiful.

"I understand now. But I am still your wife, babe. We shouldn't hide anything from ourselves. We are a couple, remember.”She counselled, as I nodded.

She was right. But, I can't help but feel my heart hammering at the thought of her ever leaving me if she figured out Evelyn was still alive. I mean, it was really weird.

"Tell me more. Do you think this is just a coincidence or planned? I mean, you have always thought she was dead. However now, she is alive. Did she remember you?”

Her words sprung up something in my heart. It reminded me of Nick and Damien's words of advice.

"Evelyn developed an amnesia. She can't remember anything from the past two years. I still can't figure out who could be pulling such strings. I needed to fish out whoever was doing this.”I stated, enunciating each words of mine, my determination getting stronger than before.

"Yeah. The enemy lurks in one's house. It is always difficult to figure out some things. Just be careful. Make your investigation as discreet as ever.”

I nodded slowly at Ariel's advice, even with the level of confusion and thoughts running through my mind.

I can't wait to see how this person managed to fool me all this while.

"So, I guess our relationship will be coming to an end soon.”

Like a dagger, Ariel's words got stuck to my heart.

"And what made you think that? You are never leaving me.”I stated firmly, and could not help but notice her face suddenly reddened.

As if being struck with her beautiful face, she leaned closely, and slowly, as my everybody itched for her

There were still words I wanted to say, but I'm slowly getting lost in the beauty of this woman. Her characters and mindset like that of an angel.

Her lips locked onto mine, and there,it felt good. Soft, slow, and sensual. It was like a new kind-one that screams appealing, widening one's longing.

Just when I wanted to make the next move, a phone call ruined the whole atmosphere.

Ariel jeered back slightly, her face turning crimson all of a sudden. Ariel never ceased to amaze.

I chuckled slightly before taking my phone from my pocket. My eyes widened, as it was non-other than Evelyn.

My hand trembled slightly, as I quickly supported the phone with my other hand.

"Pick it babe. It might be important.”I cleared my throat, taking one last glance at Ariel before picking the phone, placing it on speaker mode instantly.

I became more stunned at the voice I heard instead.

"Sir Ryan, Evelyn… She is… She…" My heart skipped a bit at the voice of Ma'am Claudia.

It was shaking, filled with lots of tension. I could hear her sobbing from my side.

"Calm down, ma'am. Please speak to me.”

Fighting the sudden down mood I was in, I eventually voiced out.

She cleared her throat, exhaling from her end.

"Evelyn wants to kill herself. You have to come here quickly.” The call came to an end, as I felt lost.

"Hey, let's start going. She intends to commit suicide.”

Before I could react, Ariel was on her feet, pulling me to stand.

I did stand up, feeling more tensed.

What was Evelyn thinking, wanting to kill herself?

I breathe out, holding Ariel's hands.

"I have to go now. I will be back.”I said, as she hissed.

"I'm going with you. Let's leave already.”She made to leave, as I held her wrist, stopping her forward movement.

"Ryan, please. Let's go together.”She pleaded, her look screaming how distressed she was, even when she shouldn't be.

"Sure.”Clamping my hand to hers, we both left the house.

I had different thoughts in mind at that moment, but there was one that kept running through my mind.

Ariel never ceased to amaze me. She is my super woman.

ARIEL POV

Love is patient and kind. It does not get puffed up. It does not get provoked. Furthermore, it does not look for his interest. Love never fails.

It took me a while to stop and think about the qualities of love. I realized I should have been more patient by listening to Ryan's side of the story, but instead I gave in to a fit of anger.

I came to see how I looked for my interest, thinking Ryan would leave me for Evelyn. A part of me wanted to claim my territory.

And similar to the handwriting on the wall, I remembered the first time I met Ryan. His words before we got married. 'To make him fall in love with me within a year, or our marriage will come to an end'.

It was a few months to our anniversary, and still battling with the constant thought of Ryan leaving me. What if he doesn't love me at the end? What if he elopes with Evelyn?

But all that didn't matter at the moment. Whatever happens, I have no control over. It was left for Ryan to make his decision. Still, I will continue to love him.

I glanced at Ryan driving, and could notice how slightly tensed he was. I wonder if Evelyn was fine or was doing all this to get Ryan's attention.

I closed my eyes, trying to block jealousy from creeping in. At that moment, I wished and really hoped she was fine.

I didn't waste more time that moment Ryan parked in front of a mansion. We both rushed inside, as the light illuminated the whole place.

My eyes widened in shock, seeing a knife in her hand, her face to the ground.

"Evelyn, what were you thinking?”Ryan's voice was enough to make her raise her head.

She glanced at Ryan as her gaze met mine. I felt a chill down my spine, at the smile on her lips.

She gripped harder on the knife, as she stood, the sharp end of the knife pointing to her stomach.

Ryan took steps closer, but she was swift, as she pointed the knife at him.

"Don't dream of getting close to me, except if you want me dead.”She deadpanned, her face dreading with terror.

That did the trick as Ryan halted, confusion boldly written on his face.

"Fine. Just doesn't try anything. You need to calm down.”I finally voiced out, as she giggled.

I was slightly shocked, not until her cold stare cut to mine.

"Your wife is funny, Ryan. You both should sit.”She stated, as Ryan groaned.

I could sense he was already getting exasperated.

"Evelyn, stop this.”He made to move, as Evelyn cut her wrist slightly, blood dripping in small drops.

"Sit right now.”She thundered as I swiftly sat on the cushion.

Ryan did the same, as we shared a look.

"Your wife is beautiful, Ryan. She has the same ssame slender body like mine, her blonde hair looking more radiant. Was that why you married her?"She pointed the knife at Ryan, as my heart pinned.

"Evelyn, you need to stop this. We can visit a therapist to help. It is night time already. You don't have to inflict pain on yourself."I nodded, agreeing with Ryan's words, constantly hoping in my heart Evelyn would drop this malady.

I couldn't help but keep staring at the small drops piercing down her skin. It looked horrifying, the brown tiles, having blood imprints.

"No therapist can help with how lonely and miserable I have been this years. For close to three years, I was lost, no memory of who you are."Evelyn paused, peeking at us ar intervals.

My heart skipped at the hurt emanating from her voice. Her face was suddenly filled with sweats, her eyelids opening and closing at intervals.

"But then, you rescued me like a knight in shining armour. What took you so long?"She asked, as Ryan sighed.

"You married her, and even though I can't remember you. I still know you as my husband. You avoided me like a plague. You love her, don't you?"She screamed pointing the knife at Ryan.

I was scared,my eyes almost popping out of its place.

"You have to calm down Evelyn. You are scaring us."Ryan stated, as she chuckled.

And like a flash of lightning, she pierced her wrist further with the knife, as blood streamed down.

I felt my heart beat, as we lunged forward.

She took steps backward, as she fell to the ground, losing consciousness.

It was a night I would never forget.
