Chapter 65: Chapter 65
RYAN POV
I watched, with guilt, as she adored the ring. The smile on her face was priceless. It was as if she saw a lost possession.
I wasn't sure what to reply to her, because I was afraid to hurt her feelings.
She was already trying to reciprocate. I wasn't going to add more pain to her. I felt overwhelmed by my carelessness. Just like a flash, Evelyn left and miraculously today, I saw her again.
I'm speechless…
Her deep brown eyes immediately found mine, jolting me out of my reverie.
"Hello. I asked a question.”Her face beamed with a smile.
My mind spun in different directions, a frantic sprint of my neurons, trying to think of the best way to break it.
She stared at me for long seconds, and it was at that moment I realized I needed to speak up.
I bit my bottom lips, as I looked away. Opening and closing my mouth, suddenly out of words.
I cleared my throat as I breathed out slowly.
"I have remarried, after two years of your assumed death. The ring is not ours.”I locked eyes with her, as she smiled.
I recognized that smile instantly. It wasn't a happy one. It was a bitter smile.
"I hope you are.....”She raised her hand, stopping words from rushing further.
"It is fine. Two years isn't a joke. You have waited for me for a long time. I appreciate it,”She sighed, holding her fingers.
“I wished I could remember the past. But I'm still stuck. I guess you will leave me soon. Your wife wouldn't like it. I know how jealous a woman can be.”She barked a laugh.
I simply smile. I knew she wasn't happy. Who would even be in this kind of situation?
"I am not leaving you. I will make sure you are alright. Hopefully, when you have your memory back, we can talk about us.” I stated, and somehow I felt a bit light inside.
She hugged me, as I was still for a moment. Within seconds, I embraced her. It was a long hug, and somehow there was further conviction she was really Evelyn.
After making sure she was fed, and ready to sleep, I left her room, as I made some important decisions.
I made sure the pedophile who was touching her earlier was taught a lesson.
I made sure to finalize my last deal in Italy, as I was ready to leave for America as soon as possible.
I also made a quick arrangement for a mansion for Evelyn and her guardian at one of my most hidden estates in the USA.
I needed to be certain she was fine. I can't let her stay far away for now. I really feel like the most confused fellow.
Finally, I picked up my phone to call Ariel.
Tiredly placing the phone at my left ear, It wasn't until the second ring that Ariel picked the call.
"Mi Amor, how are you?”I spoke, slowly.
"I'm fine. Are you fine, babe? Your voice? You must be tired. I wish I were there with you. I know you would wear yourself out.”I chuckled, a wide smile crepting to my lips of her great concern and care.
"Hey. It's fine. I will be home tomorrow. I truly miss you, Milady.”I could imagine her face turning red by now.
"I miss you too. You can't imagine how many times I've thought about you today. I feel like seeing you physically.”My heart fluttered with joy.
I'm really fortunate to have someone like her.
"I'm fine. Just tired darling.”
I could feel my heart beat at the fact that I was hiding something from her.
"Hmm. I don't believe you. You only use that endearment,'darling' when you are hiding something. Are you really fine?”
I facepalmed at the thought of giving myself away.
She was quite right.
"Remember that I am your wife. We should share our thoughts together. We are one now.”Her voice slowly lowered as she spoke.
I let out my breath as the thought of lying suddenly made guilt spring up my heart.
"Milady, I am fine. Just stressed. I can't wait to come back tomorrow.”I revealed, as the rise of her squealing reached my ears.
Ouch! She really misses me a lot.
"I can't wait to see you. Don't forget to rest. You need to be in the right set of mind. Please keep in mind that stress makes it easy to give in to anger.”I smiled at her lecture.
She really had a good way of lecturing me.
"Roger that. I promise to have a good night's sleep to replenish my energy.”I stated, my lips twitched a bit.
I wasn't certain if I would be able to sleep tonight. A lot was going through my mind already. It's really difficult to think straight.
But somehow I was finding solace from Ariel's soothing and calm voice. It was refreshing to my soul.
"Good boy.”She commended, as I chuckled.
"Can we video chat? I really want to see your face?”I groaned, as she giggled.
"Just a few seconds.”I stated, as she accepted.
I moved closer to the wall at the back of the hospital. It was quiet and definitely a spot on. There was no way Ariel would know it was a hospital.
I switched on the video call at my end, as it revealed Ariel in a nightgown, her hair falling over her shoulders.
She looked beautiful.
"Happy now?”I teased, as she nodded, suddenly shy.
"Since you have seen me, bye.”I made to cut the call, as her voice stopped me.
"One more thing, Ryan. Recite one of your love poems to me.”I could not help but burst into laughter at her weird request.
It really made my day. My heart beat faster than usual, and suddenly, I felt the adrenaline rushing through me.
"Just like the morning breeze, your voice is always refreshing. Spring is glee, but your heart is gold. Your spirit is uplifting for a beautiful soul like you. I felt hopeless without you. But now that I found you, you are the best thing that ever happened to me.” I recited, as I closed my eyes briefly, before opening them again.
She stared at me for long seconds, her cheeks suddenly damp. Was she crying? OMG!
The tiniest flicker of light hit her sparkling brown eyes, making her look radiant as ever.
"Thanks babe. Take care.”With those words, she ended the call.
I was stunned for a while, and a little frozen at some point. I stared at my phone screen again, as I sighed.
Feeling weak, I leaned against the wall as I stared at the sky.
"I'm deeply sorry, Ariel. I have to keep this away from you. I really hope I will be able to fall in love with you one day, with enough confidence to say I LOVE YOU.”I mumbled.
"I hope you will be able to keep up with those words.”
My heart skipped a bit, as I turned abruptly to see the person who spoke.
None other than Damien. What is he doing there?
"How long have you been there? Are you stalking me?”I was beginning to flare up.
How is he always in the same place I was?
"Long enough to witness the lovey DOVEY. You are a good actor, you know. Well done.”He clapped slowly, which only infuriated me.
"Are you done?”I asked, as a sly smile appeared on his lips.
"Not at all. It seems you now want to take care of your newly found wife. It didn't take me long enough to know what you were hiding from your wife. Just be careful.”He stated, each word of his making me furious.
How the hell is he bent on my life?
I should have been more careful. I literally carried Evelyn out and brought her to the hospital myself, with her face exposed. He must have seen it there.
"I hope you are not planning to keep this away from Ariel.”
“And how is that your business?” I thundered at him, as he smiled.
A weird and dangerous smile.
"If you refuse to tell her, someone else will.”
My eyebrows wrinkled as I felt my head banging already.
"Except If a snitch like you does.”Our eyes locked with each other, as I spoke.
He raised his hands in the air,
"Not me. Just wait and see. Only time will tell, Ryan. Until we meet again, don't forget to keep Ariel to you. If you let her slip, I might grab her.”With that, he left.
My blood boiled with each word he said. I raked my teeth over my bottom lips, trying and failing to dodge the verbal blow.
I wasn't ready to give up. Damien was never going to give up on Ariel, neither will I. Ariel is mine, and mine alone.
I got to my hotel with a heavy heart. Seeing my dad's call for the umpteenth time prompted me to block him.
I was tired and lost. At least for this night, I needed my peace.
A lot of what if's kept going through my mind, and it was glaring enough to see that I might be making the wrong decision soon. A decision that could cost me one of the best people in my life.
I need help......
