Chapter 44: Chapter 44
Shubh's POV
Just then I saw my parents, Mamaji, Mamiji and Vidhi's parents coming towards us. They were already inside the home ???
I was shocked to see all of them. They all were glaring at me. I looked at my dad he looked a bit disappointed and Vidhi's dad looked angry with me.
I got up immediately and was thinking about how to explain all this to all of them. It should not have happened like this. I was about to apologise for everything when all the ladies started smiling.
My mom hugged me and said that she was so happy as she had always liked Vidhi a lot. My mamiji and Vidhi's mom were also smiling from ear to ear.
Oh, thank god !!! I could not take any more drama today.
I touched feet of all the elders and so did Vidhi. They all blessed us.
Sandhya and Vikram Ji had talked to both sets of parents and they all were extremely happy about it. Vidhi's parents and Sandhya's parents all left for Delhi as soon as we left from jodhpur. They all came by air so reached before us.
" Why didn't you say anything Shubh, when I asked you? " Uncle said but I kept looking downwards. I didn't know how to explain. Vikram Ji kept smiling and then explained.
" You could have told me I would have talked to them. " My dad said. I nodded.
Everyone was teasing me that was I ready to get married now??
Uncle asked, " Beta Shubh, Do you still think that you are too young to get married? I remember you telling me that, just a couple of days back. We can wait for a year or two. " I just smiled and could not say anything.
" Dad you should have seen him when he thought that I wanted vidhi to get married to Samar. He did not let Samar talk to her. He is ready to get married to our Vidhi. "
They all kept teasing me. They suggested that we have a roka. They had come prepared and the rest of the things were managed by Vikram Ji and Sandy. We had a surprise Roka ceremony that day only.
Vidhi's POV
It had been about a week since the day we told Bhai about us being in love. Last week was very eventful. Bhai had already talked to both sets of parents and they all were extremely happy about it. They all came to Delhi to talk about our marriage.
Everyone was teasing Shubh that was he ready to get married now and did he still think that he was too young to get married?
He kept blushing at that. Bhai and bhabhi were merciless in teasing us. Bhai kept advising him to change his decision as according to Bhai Shubh must be regretting by that time. But he kept smiling at that.
It was just a family affair with just our parents and Bhabhi's parents. They all were present and all of a sudden they suggested that we must have a roka ceremony. So Bhai and bhabhi did all the arrangements for the Roka ceremony and just after it was done, our parents started planning the big fat Indian wedding.
" Can I say something please? " Shubh said all of a sudden.
" Just don't say that you are too young to get married as you are only 25 or you are scared that you both are very different. " Sandhya bhabhi said.
" No, I was not saying that," he said.
" Ok, go ahead, would-be groom. Here is a chance for you till you get married, I am sure my sister would not let you speak later on. " Bhai teased again and everyone laughed. I glared at Bhai but it didn't bother him.
" I know that you all want a very big fat Indian traditional wedding, but I don't want that I don't want to spend so much money on unnecessary things. I would rather save it, invest it or may even donate all that money to someone needy we could have a small wedding with fewer people. Just our relatives and close friends, who matter to us and to whom we matter not the entire city and everyone. " Shubh said.
" But why?? You are our only child. We want to celebrate and invite everyone we know. It should be a grand wedding. " Uncle said.
" Dad please, it is not what I want. You know very well that I am a very private person. It is my request. Plus so much money would be wasted. " He insisted.
" So what if the money is wasted ?? We all can afford to do that. After all, this is the time for which every parent saves so that they can spend on weddings. And we all have blessings of goddess Laxmi. Why do you think so much Shubh? " uncle said.
" I agree that we are very fortunate but it is the sheer wastage of money. We must save it or invest it. Give me the amount you want to spend on the wedding. I would invest it. " Shubh said.
" Shubh no, we want a lavish wedding. Something like Vikram and Sandhya's. We want people to talk about it for years. " Aunty said and my parents nodded.
" But why spend so much money for one day?? Just because we want to be appreciated by random people, who don't even matter to us??? People just talk about anything they want. There was a joke which was being circulated in various networking sites that-- Itne paise ka faida india ka sab se amir aadmi hai aur usne apni beti ki shaadi main boondi ka raita bhi nahin rakha tha khane main. (India's most richest man did not even serve Boondi ka raita in his daughter's wedding.)-- Imagine dad that he must have spent many crores on the wedding and there would have been lots and lots of varieties of food. Still, people found something to talk about or to make fun of. We must not care what would people say. " he said.
I agree with him on this at least.
" This is just a stupid joke Shubh. " uncle said.
" I know dad... But it proves the point that you can't please everyone. And why should we even try it?? That is wastage. "
" So what do you want? "
" We should rather give it to people who could fulfil their needs with this money for almost a year. "
" But what would people say?? They would think that our businesses were facing losses or that we were being a miser. " Uncle said and dad nodded.
" It is our money, our family function, our wish. Let them say what they want." He said
" But we have planned over so many years, we have only one child. What about our feelings? At least think about Vidhi... She must have thought about it... Her dream wedding... "
" Vidhi, please tell me what you want, I am sorry, we should have discussed it earlier. But everything happened all of a sudden and now that our parents were discussing all this so, I had to speak before they plan everything. " He looked into my eyes and asked.
" What do I say ?? I guess both are right at their place." I looked at everyone.
" No, tell me what kind of wedding you want. This is your wedding too, so you get to say what you want. Please feel free to say anything you want. "
" Well, in that case, I would like a traditional wedding with all rituals. But it doesn't matter to me, how many people come as far as all our near and dear ones are with us. I am ok with less number of guests and making it less lavish. After all, what matters is that we are getting married. But one thing is final, I am excited about shopping and I would do it whether it is a small affair or a big fat wedding." I said and Bhai started laughing.
" Oh, God !!! You have started getting smart Vidhi. You are changing for good except for thus Obsession of yours for shopping. Want to buy the whole city??? "
" Yes, I want to... It's my wedding I would do as much shopping as I want. " I said and he shook his head. Everyone laughed at that.
" But beta we also want a very grand wedding. We want that people should not forget about it for years. " Now my parents started saying the same as Shubh's.
