Chapter 49: Chapter 49
Maxwell casually glanced at her, greeted Mrs. Smith, and then pulled out a chair to sit down, starting to eat breakfast.
Flora discreetly glanced at Mrs. Smith, who didn't look too pleased. After taking care of everything, she quietly left the dining room and escaped to the backyard. Maxwell watched her flee and a trace of mocking contempt appeared on his handsome face.
Once Flora left, Mrs. Smith couldn't help but look up and stare at Maxwell, "Maxwell, I let her go, why did you bring her back?"
Maxwell had anticipated Mrs. Smith asking him this, and chuckled, "Aunt, I didn't want to let her go yet. In due time, I will take care of her. But it's not as simple as just letting her go."
"What do you intend to do?" Mrs. Smith grew anxious upon hearing his words. "Maxwell, you can't go too far. After all, this is a society ruled by law. Just punish her and be done with it."
"Aunt, rest assured, I know what I'm doing," Maxwell reassured her with a smile on his face.
"If you know what you're doing, then I wouldn't have to do this. You're just too extremist. The matter with Chiyoko hasn't been resolved yet. Are you planning to keep her imprisoned for life?" Mrs. Smith accused urgently.
Maxwell's habit of imprisoning people hadn't changed at all, and she didn't know what to do with him anymore.
Every time Chiyoko was mentioned, Maxwell's expression would change. Everyone knew that he disliked hearing that name the most. Mrs. Smith was aware of this too, but she also couldn't avoid bringing it up!
She sighed softly and advised, "Maxwell, Chiyoko knows she has done wrong. Why can't you forgive her? If you love her so much, then set her free and move on with your life, get married."
"Who said I love her?" Maxwell quickly retorted, feeling as if he was saying those words out of stubbornness.
Mrs. Smith thought he was just being stubborn and continued to persuade him, "Regardless, you should release her soon. If you keep her locked up like this, she'll go completely insane."
Chiyoko had already started to show signs of instability, and Mrs. Smith couldn't help but worry.
"Aunt, let me finish dealing with the matters at hand before I handle her situation." Maxwell didn't want to discuss this topic any further and made excuses to avoid it.
It's the same excuse again. Mrs. Smith shook her head helplessly, "Alright then, but you must resolve the situation with Flora. Whether you let her go or do something else, just don't keep her by your side." Mrs. Smith thought for a moment and continued, "Maxwell, I won't interfere with who you choose to be with, but you can't have any intimate relations with Flora anymore. She's simply not worthy...of being in your bed."
"..." Maxwell was speechless, unsure of how to respond to Mrs. Smith's question.
Seeing his silence, Mrs. Smith spoke again, "Sometimes, feelings can develop from physical intimacy. I don't want to see you have any feelings for her."
"It won't happen," Maxwell replied with a smile, feeling confident about this. He couldn't possibly develop feelings for a woman he hated to the core!
"Hopefully, that won't happen." Mrs. Smith chuckled bitterly.
She had always had a bad feeling about Flora. Joshua loved her, Oliver always supported her, and even Robin was easily swayed by her. As for Maxwell, Mrs. Smith believed that it wouldn't be long before he too would be charmed by her!
Mrs. Smith wanted to stop it, but she was powerless to do so. Did she have to helplessly watch this family being disrupted by that woman?
Flora stared at Nancy in shock and stammered, "You want me to serve Miss Chiyoko her meals?" Did she hear it correctly? She was supposed to serve that lunatic on the third floor? She wasn't a kitten with nine lives!
Moreover, didn't Maxwell warn her not to set foot on the third floor again? Why was he now not only willing to let her go upstairs but also asking her to serve that woman her meals?
"What? Feeling aggrieved?" Nancy impatiently scolded, annoyed by her reaction. Although she was curious about why Mrs. Smith wanted Flora to serve Miss Chiyoko, Flora's reaction seemed a bit exaggerated, didn't it?
"Not feeling aggrieved," Flora replied softly, taking the tray from Nancy's hand and heading towards the main house.
As soon as she stepped onto the stairs leading to the third floor, her legs began to tremble involuntarily. This was her second time setting foot on the third floor, and the scenes of Miss Chiyoko chopping "Mimi" into pieces kept flashing through her mind.
What was Mrs. Smith's motive? Was she hoping for her to be brutally killed by Miss Chiyoko, to make her disappear from Maxwell's world?
Unable to guess, Flora decided not to speculate. She stood outside Miss Chiyoko's bedroom, faintly hearing the sound of a piano emanating from inside. Flora was mildly surprised, thinking to herself that even though that woman had gone mad, she could still play such beautiful melodies?
After knocking on the door, Flora used the key to open it, trembling slightly as she pushed it open. She positioned herself ready to escape at any moment, cautiously peering into the room to see what was happening. To her astonishment, the woman who should have been insane was now smiling and gently singing, sitting in front of a grand piano, waving her ten fingers as she played a melody as smooth as flowing water.
At this moment, she had completely changed from her previous ghostly appearance. She was wearing a well-fitted dress, with silky hair cascading down her shoulders. Her fair complexion was as smooth as cream, stunningly captivating, and her youthful fingers seemed to be naturally born for playing the piano. In Flora's nineteen years of existence, this woman was the most beautiful she had ever seen!
No wonder she could drive Maxwell to such madness. Not only did he imprison her for a year, but he also turned against Oliver. If it were her, she wouldn't want to hand over such a beautiful woman either.
