Chapter 210: Chapter 210
Two years later.
It was spring, the season when flowers bloomed. Inside a luxurious mansion, roses were blooming beautifully. Pink petals fluttered, decorating the green grass.
Two children, who looked almost identical and like angels, were laughing and playing on the grass, chasing each other in the sea of pink flowers.
They appeared to be about two years old, with blinking big eyes and fair skin. The most enchanting feature was their sparkling eyes. The only difference between their little faces was that the boy had a touch of masculinity, while the girl exuded a sweet charm.
A nanny stood nearby, carefully watching over them, not daring to look away for a moment, afraid that the two little angels might fall or collide. From the nanny's expression, one could tell that these little angels were of high status.
At that moment, the sound of a car approaching could be heard from the entrance. Soon after, a silver car slowly drove into the yard and stopped in front of the main house. The car doors opened, and two tall, handsome men got out.
Instead of entering the house, the men walked towards the garden. As they approached, the nanny respectfully lowered her head and greeted, "Good afternoon, young master. Good afternoon, Mr. Thomas."
Henry White nodded calmly, and the nanny sensibly stepped aside, giving space to the owners.
The two little angels heard the nanny's voice and turned around. Excitedly, they ran towards Henry and joyfully shouted, "Daddy... Daddy, you finally came to see us!"
Henry bent down and caught their tiny bodies, hugging them in his arms. He didn't let go until they gave him their kisses and left saliva on his face. He then pushed them away slightly and looked at their identical faces.
Each time he closely observed their faces, his heart ached. These two children had hints of Flora in their features, but they weren't exactly alike, maybe about 40% similar.
The remaining 60% undoubtedly resembled their father. Thinking like this, Henry felt uneasy, and uncomfortable. Why he wasn't their biological father?
He had wanted to find out the truth about their parentage numerous times, but in the past two years, there had been no clues. He also didn't know who had framed Flora White, and he couldn't even seek revenge for Flora White. It was truly heartbreaking!
His emotions towards these two children had always been a mix of love and hatred. When he heard them call him "daddy," he felt warmth in his heart, but when he looked at these two unfamiliar faces, the hatred couldn't help but arise.
Flora's poisoning must be related to that man! What had happened two years ago? Who caused her pregnancy and then mercilessly took away her child?
"Daddy, you hurt me..." the little girl pouted, waving her arms and protesting loudly.
Henry quickly let go of them, apologetically touching their heads. "I'm sorry, sweetie."
Thomas smiled as he squatted next to Henry and playfully teased the two little angels, "Little darlings, once you see daddy, you don't pay attention to Uncle Thomas anymore?"
"I love Uncle Thomas so much!" the little girl happily nestled into Thomas' arms and exclaimed loudly.
"You are so well-behaved. It was worth all the trouble for you," Thomas said, unable to stop smiling, and planted a kiss on both of their faces, making them giggle and run away.
Watching the two little figures playfully in the garden, Thomas let out a light sigh, stood up, and sat on a nearby recliner. He gestured for Henry to sit on the chair next to him and his gaze once again fell upon the playful little figures.
"I think it's time to bring them home," Henry said with a sad tone as he sat down next to Thomas.
Taking a puff of his cigarette, Thomas shook his head and stared at him, saying, "For the sake of the children's safety, I can't hand them over to you, Henry. Come to me when you are truly ready to accept them."
Henry's unresolved feelings had been apparent when he had been lost in thought just now. His resentment towards the biological father of the children had not changed over these two years!
Seeing the hate-filled eyes whenever Henry looked at the children made Thomas worry. He was afraid that one day Henry, in a fit of anger, would harm these two innocent children, rendering his effort of saving the twins meaningless!
"Don't worry, I wouldn't be so cruel as to harm these two children," Henry said, with a bitter smile. They were Flora's children and he should cherish them. How could he bear to harm them?
"I don't trust that," Thomas said bluntly, not sugarcoating his words.
Henry fell silent, and Thomas continued to gaze at him and said, "I can't guarantee that you will love these two children after Flora's death!"
"Shut up!" Henry suddenly stood up from his chair, angrily shouting, "Flora will not die!" Every time Thomas mentioned Flora's illness, this was his reaction, trying to avoid facing the reality!
Thomas had grown accustomed to his reaction by now, calmly blowing smoke rings and saying, "It is an indisputable fact that Flora drank poison. Only the Yota Gang possesses that kind of poison, and there is still no antidote available."
"Aren't you a doctor? Can't you research and develop an antidote?" Henry White glared at him.
Thomas's face immediately fell, innocently giving a forced laugh, "Mr. White, we've known each other for over a decade, don't you know that I am a surgeon? Research is not my expertise."
"I don't care! You must cure Flora's illness for me!" Henry commanded unreasonably. He showed no hesitation when speaking to his friend and former high school classmate he had known for over a decade!
In the medical field, Thomas did indeed have a high reputation. He had studied and practiced surgery in Germany until he returned to W City two years ago. Upon his return, he was approached by Philip, who offered a hefty price for his attendance at a surgery. What he hadn't expected was that the patient for the surgery was Flora White.
He was familiar with Flora, having seen her when he visited the White Family in the past. He also knew that Henry always had a liking for this half-sister. Two years ago, when he saw Flora lying on the ground, he was shocked.
Having experienced many ups and downs, he was not easily surprised, but he calmly saved Flora and the children, and handed them over to Henry. The sight of Henry's excitement upon seeing Flora again was something he would never forget!
In response to Henry's unreasonable demand, Thomas remained silent, only blowing smoke rings one after another.
Henry arrived at the house in the eastern district where Flora White resided. It was a somewhat old house, and the flowers and plants in the garden were lush due to years of neglect.
The walls were also worn and had a faded color because Henry didn't want anyone to come near the house, so he didn't hire anyone to maintain it. Apart from an elderly couple, Flora White was the only one living there.
An old man opened the door for him and nodded in greeting. Henry drove the car into the house and parked it. He went straight upstairs to the bedroom, where Flora peacefully lay sleeping in bed.
Henry placed the bouquet of champagne roses by Flora White's pillow and sat on the edge of the bed, gazing deeply at her beautiful face. Her delicate skin, so pale and smooth due to lack of sunlight, was almost sickly white.
"Flora, don't worry, I will find a way to cure your illness," Henry whispered, holding her fragile hand and gently kissing it as he made a solemn promise.
Such a promise held no meaning, as even Thomas had said that it was impossible to cure her illness. What right did he have to say these words? But deep inside, he desperately wanted to cure her illness.
Henry sat by the bed, gazing at her for a long time, until he grew weary and leaned against the edge of the bed, nearly falling asleep. Suddenly, the little hand in his grasp trembled, startling him awake from his drowsiness.
Henry instinctively sat up straight and looked at Flora.
Flora on the bed was writhing in pain, her hands waving frantically, her mouth murmuring in terror. "No! Don't come... Don't!"
"Flora..." Henry called her name with aching concern as he lightly pushed her body. She was having a nightmare again, ever since her amnesia, she often had nightmares. What kind of cruel story was haunting her?
Henry truly wished to know what had happened to her two years ago, why she had suffered such a tragedy. The nightmares must be connected to that horrible event! It pained Henry's heart as if it were bleeding!
Perhaps awakened by the nightmare, or perhaps due to Henry's affectionate calling, Flora slowly emerged from her sleep. Her curly lashes quivered slightly before she suddenly opened her eyes.
Cold sweat dripped down her forehead, and her rapid breaths caused her chest to rise and fall. Her frail body even trembled slightly. It was that dream again, why did she always dream this dream? Flora didn't know why!
In the dream, a man with indistinguishable features, strong and cold, stared at her with deep and melancholic eyes. He slowly emerged from the misty distance. When she tried to see his face clearly, a dark blue dragon suddenly darted out from behind him. With its bloody mouth wide open, it lunged towards her, devouring her
This dream haunted her for two whole years! She wanted to break free from it, but she could never escape!
"Flora, are you alright? Another nightmare?" Henry, with a heart full of compassion, wiped the sweat off her face with his hand and asked with concern, "Flora, don't be afraid, it's just a nightmare, not real."
Flora took a deep breath and calmed her racing heart slightly before nodding slightly.
As she had done many times before, the first thing she saw upon waking up was the gentle and handsome face of Henry, and his deep and caring black eyes gazing affectionately at her. That warm gaze never failed to warm her heart.
"Henry, you're here?" Flora smiled softly and looked back at Henry White. Then she struggled to sit up from the bed, but her weak body made even this small movement difficult.
Henry lifted her from the bed and used his slender fingers to tidy her hair, asking with concern, "Flora, did you forget to take your medicine at noon? Why are you so weak?"
Flora smiled apologetically and said, "I fell asleep, so I forgot. Can I take it now?" To avoid Henry scolding her, Flora obediently reached out and took the medicine bottle from the table, pouring a pill into her hand.
Henry considerately poured a glass of warm water for her and couldn't help but admonish, "Flora, you mustn't forget to take your medicine. That's how you'll get better faster. Remember for next time."
Flora smiled bitterly and said sadly, "Henry, can my illness still be cured?"
"It definitely can, Flora. If Thomas dares not to cure you, I'll make sure he accompanies you in death!" Henry said fiercely. If he could develop medication to alleviate Flora's pain, then he could surely find a cure for her illness.
Flora knew these were just comforting words. If it could be cured, she wouldn't have suffered for so long without a solution. She had long lost hope of recovering her memory and curing her illness.
What she was curious about now was what had happened to the past Flora and why she had fallen victim to such an incurable poison. She looked up, gazing at Henry, and asked, "Henry, can you tell me what happened two years ago?"
Henry had heard her ask this question many times before, and he shook his head apologetically as usual. "I'm sorry, Flora, I really don't know what happened. I found you after searching for a year, but by the time I found you, something had already happened to you."
He wasn't lying when he said this. Two years ago, he found Flora and waited for her to wake up. But when Flora awakened, she refused to mention what had happened. She only insisted on having a child, and when he told her the child had died, she completely broke down. For a long time, she stayed in a state of blankness, locking herself in her room without speaking a word.
Even though Henry had questioned her many times about the identity of the child's father and who had taken her away, Flora refused to say a word, only repeating that she didn't know.
Did she really not know? Did she not know who the child's biological father was? Henry White doubted but felt helpless.
As time passed, Flora's memories slowly faded away, and eventually, she didn't even know what had happened in the past. Unable to remember her past, her heart was haunted by a vague shadow, the figure that always appeared in her dreams. Who was he? What was their connection?
Flora sighed softly and stopped asking him. After taking her medicine and feeling slightly better, she got up and slowly walked out onto the terrace. As she looked at the golden sunset outside, a sense of sadness washed over her. The last remnants of daylight, was this the stage of her life that she had reached? Was the darkness that awaited her a long and profound one?!
A sudden knocking sound came from the door. Flora wiped away the tears from her face and quickly put on a calm demeanor. Thomas entered and stood in front of her, looking down at her with a smile. "Flora, how have you been feeling lately?"
Flora nodded and met his gaze. "Thomas, can you tell me how much time I have left to live?"
Thomas was taken aback, astonished as he looked at her. He opened his mouth and said, "Flora, why do you ask that? Don't worry, maybe this illness is not as severe as we imagine, there may be other solutions."
Flora smiled desolately, taking hold of Thomas's hand. "Thomas, Henry always said you cared for me the most when we were children, so you must understand my feelings, right? Tell me, let me prepare myself mentally."
Thomas hesitated and ultimately shook his head. He couldn't tell her, she had already suffered enough and couldn't bear any more blows.
Flora didn't give up, pleading as she shook his arm. "Please, tell me. I promise, I am prepared mentally and won't be affected. I want to know how many days I have left. I want to make the most of the few days I have left. Thomas, I hope to make the remaining days meaningful. Please..."
"Flora..." Thomas picked her up from the bed, embracing her and pleading in return, "Can you please not ask?"
Without waiting for Thomas's answer, Flora forced a bitter smile. "I already know a lot of things, Thomas. You don't have to hide anything from me anymore. Thank you for saving me and the child back then, I am really grateful."
"Flora, I accidentally saved you. You don't need to thank me," Thomas said while rubbing her hair.
"I have less than ten left, right?" Flora White looked up at him, trying to sound calm. "Thomas, I can feel it in my own body, it's getting worse day by day."
"No!" Thomas shook his head, comforting her with a pained expression. "Flora, if you take the medication on time and control the toxins from spreading, you will be fine for another month." He couldn't resist giving her the answer because he couldn't bear her persistent questioning.
Only one month left? Flora White's heart instantly turned icy cold. Her life had just started to bring her a little joy, and now she had to leave. These fleeting days vanished like fireworks, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
"Flora..." Thomas called out with concern, knowing that no normal person could accept their death sentence being announced. He was worried and heartbroken.
"Flora, your children are still alive, and they are twins, a boy and a girl..." Henry tentatively said. In order to reignite her desire for life, Henry decided to reveal the truth to her. With the thought of her children, her will to survive would surely strengthen.
"They're really alive? My children are really alive? I... Where are they? How are they doing? I... I want to see them..." Flora was so excited that her words became incoherent.
"It's true. Let me take you to Japan to find Yota Gang for the antidote. Once this disease is cured, you can live with your children. Do you... want to live together with them?" Henry asked.
To his surprise, Flora shook her head with a sorrowful smile. "No, as long as the children are doing well, it doesn't matter if we don't live together."
Thomas said, "It is said that the secret inside that necklace is likely some kind of poison, which could be the same poison that you were exposed to. I have found out that the necklace has returned to Yota Gang and is in the hands of Itou Tokugawa."
Henry immediately spoke, "Then let's go to Japan together and ask Itou Tokugawa for the antidote."
Thomas said, "It's too dangerous to just go to Japan like this. Let's go secretly, without letting anyone from Yota Gang find out. I have a friend in Japan who can help us gather information on Yota Gang, and then we can make a decision."
In the end, Flora couldn't resist her longing for love and a warm family. She decided to go to Japan with Henry.
