Chapter 183: Chapter 183
A Porsche slowly pulled up in front of the Moonlight Hotel. Mrs. Smith, gazing through the car window, surveyed the luxurious star-rated hotel building. She turned to Maxwell with concern and asked, "Maxwell, is Oliver willing to see me?"
"Aunt, I've arranged the meeting on behalf of someone else, but remember he is now Kevin," Maxwell said, gripping the steering wheel. He couldn't let Mrs. Smith go around proclaiming that Kevin is actually Oliver.
"Yes, I know. Don't worry," Mrs. Smith nodded reassuringly.
"I can't show up. Can you go up by yourself, Aunt?" Maxwell asked after a moment of thought. After all, his face looked exactly like Kevin's, and it wasn't suitable for him to linger around.
"That's fine. You can go to work. I'll have the driver take me back later," Mrs. Smith replied, opening the car door and walking towards the hotel entrance.
Maxwell watched her disappear and left after a few seconds.
Mrs. Davis surveyed the spacious lobby, preparing to ask someone at the front desk when she coincidentally encountered Chloe and Linda entering cheerfully. She called out to them, "Excuse me."
Chloe, who had already walked past her, turned back and politely asked with a professional smile, "How may we assist you, madam?"
"Um, where is Kevin's room?" Mrs. Smith asked, "I already made a reservation for 9:30."
Chloe, upon hearing her words, went to the front desk to make a call to the secretary department for information. When she returned, still wearing a smiling face, she said, "Mrs. Gold, right? Please follow me."
Feeling a bit uneasy, Mrs. Smith forced a smile. Maxwell had arranged the meeting for her using the identity of a company's general manager named Mrs. Gold, making her feel like she was sneaking around. She followed Chloe towards the direction of the elevators.
Chloe escorted Mrs. Smith directly to the door of Kevin's suite and left after opening the door for her. Mrs. Smith felt a bit nervous, took a deep breath, and entered. In the center of the suite, she saw Kevin.
Her eyes welled up, and she was so excited that tears almost fell.
However, Kevin seemed surprised and displeased by her presence. He raised an eyebrow mockingly and said, "Mrs. Smith, when did you become Mrs. Gold?" After making this remark, he sat down on the sofa, indicating the one opposite, and added, "Since you're here, please have a seat. But I don't want to hear anything about Oliver."
Taking a step forward, Mrs. Smith emotionally called out, "Oliver."
"Stop!" Kevin interrupted her, speaking coldly, "Please, Mrs. Smith, get it straight. I am Kevin, not Oliver. If you can't accept that, then please leave." He didn't want to see anyone from the Smith Family!
Mrs. Smith looked at his firm attitude and sighed, "Oliver, I don't understand why you hate the Smith Family so much. What did Mrs. Davis say or do to you? Why do you reject even your own family?"
"I don't want a family? It's you who didn't want me first," Kevin sneered, looking at her coldly. He had always believed this since childhood, and indeed, he had been influenced by Mrs. Davis.
"How did we not want you?" Mrs. Smith exclaimed, "Mrs. Davis played all kinds of tricks, kidnapped you, causing your parents to search for you everywhere. When the police told us you were dead, your mother was heartbroken, hospitalized, and went crazy. Isn't it all because of you?"
"What are you talking about?" Kevin frowned, displeased. He didn't like hearing criticism of Mrs. Davis, as she had raised him and was more like a mother to him than his biological mother.
Seeing the displeasure on his face, Mrs. Smith anxiously continued, "I won't go into how Mrs. Davis told you about the events 25 years ago, but I need to tell you the truth."
Kevin interrupted her again, saying, "Mrs. Smith, do you think the truth matters? I'm sorry, I don't think it does." He only knew that Mrs. Davis had spoiled him since childhood, providing him with the best life, and the best education—everything was the best! Without Mrs. Davis's guidance, he might not have become who he was.
"If you continue to hate the Smith Family, then it matters," Mrs. Smith stared at him earnestly, "Whether you want to hear it or not, I must say it. The one who kidnapped you back then was none other than Mrs. Davis. She hated your parents, so she wanted to retaliate against them. Raising you and having you take over the company was just a means to watch you destroy the Smith Family Group."
Kevin's face showed surprise for a moment, but he quickly recovered, coldly smiling, "Is that your version of the truth? Well, it's certainly dramatic, but you're wrong. My mom didn't want me to destroy the Smith Family Group. It was she who advised me not to have any involvement with the Smith Family Group. She faked her illness and deceived me to return to Germany, but it was you who stopped me at the airport."
Although Kevin said this on the surface, he was still somewhat shocked in his heart. He had always doubted Mrs. Davis's motives before.
But he kept reassuring himself that his suspicions were wrong, that Mrs. Davis genuinely loved him!
Since the airport incident, his suspicions had deepened, but to protect Mrs. Davis's image in his heart, he chose not to dwell on it and avoided seeking the truth.
Today, however, Mrs. Smith spoke out such a story in front of him. He still couldn't bear to understand how much of it was true. Avoidance—this was the most cowardly thing he had done in so many years!
Seeing his cold attitude, Mrs. Smith sighed sadly, unable to hold back her disappointment. She said, "Oliver, don't be deceived by her appearance. Her motive is to revenge against the Smith Family. Your mother went insane because of you. If it weren't for Maxwell pretending to be you, she would never have recovered. She loves you so much, wouldn't you be willing to return to the Smith Family and continue being the Second Young Master?"
"Why did Maxwell pretend to be Oliver?" Kevin finally showed some interest in her words. Why did Maxwell impersonate him and flaunt himself everywhere? This had been a question he had never understood.
Upon mentioning this, tears welled up in Mrs. Smith's eyes. Blinking, she said, "When you were kidnapped, the kidnapper didn't ask for money or anything. Everyone was terrified. A few days later, news came from the police station that you had been killed. Your mother couldn't bear the blow and ended up in the hospital. Later, she suddenly went insane. No treatment worked, and your father had no choice but to ask Maxwell to pretend to be you. Later, your mother's condition slowly improved."
Mrs. Smith paused, took a deep breath, and continued, "Only Maxwell and your father knew about this. I found out at the airport when I saw you. Maxwell went through a lot. He had to play two roles every day when he was a child. It got a bit better when Oliver was sent abroad as he grew up. So, you must not hate them; everyone loves you!"
So Maxwell pretended to be him for this reason, Kevin thought, smiling bitterly.
Seeing Mrs. Smith's eyes shimmering with tears, he didn't know how to comfort her for a moment. The indifference on his face had disappeared, indicating that he was slowly accepting this fact. Mrs. Smith blinked away the teardrops in satisfaction.
"Oliver, come home with me, okay?" Mrs. Smith pleaded softly, unwilling to give up. "Oliver has always lived among us. No one can bear to lose you. Richard, Robin, they all love you."
"I won't go back. Mrs. Smith, you don't need to say more," Kevin rejected without hesitation, turning and walking into the study. It was clear he didn't want to continue this topic.
Mrs. Smith's heart tightened, and she asked with disappointment, "Why?"
Kevin turned to look at her, solemnly and earnestly saying, "I don't know any of the stories you mentioned. All I know is that my surname has been Davis for 25 years, and Mrs. Davis raised me. Mrs. Smith, please go back."
He was the only son of the Davis family, and such a large family business needed him. The aging Mrs. Davis needed him. No matter what happened in the past, the truth might erase his hatred for the Smith Family, but it couldn't take away the people he cared about.
Mrs. Smith felt extremely disappointed, but Kevin's expression was resolute. She could only take a deep breath and say, "Oliver, I hope you will reconsider. You can return to the Smith Family. You have a home and a family waiting for you."
After saying this, Mrs. Smith gazed at him for a while, but he didn't respond at all. She turned and walked towards the door of the suite. Just as she took a few steps, she was startled by the sudden appearance of someone—Mrs. Davis?
Mrs. Davis, who had just come out of the elevator, also froze when she saw Mrs. Smith. Staring at her, she asked coldly, "Why are you here?"
Mrs. Smith stared back at her and chuckled softly, "I'm here to find my nephew Oliver. What? Is that not allowed?" Mrs. Davis! This venomous woman had kidnapped Oliver, keeping him away for 25 years!
"What did you just tell him?" Mrs. Davis asked anxiously, her heart filled with guilty embarrassment. She was afraid that Mrs. Smith might badmouth her in front of Kevin. These damn secretaries had allowed Mrs. Smith to come to Moonlight Hotel! She planned to fire all of them when she got back! Mrs. Davis thought angrily, a mix of urgency and anger on her face.
"I just told Oliver the truth. Is there a problem?" Mrs. Smith sneered. The guilty look on Mrs. Davis's face sent a chill down her spine. This malicious woman, how long did she think she could hide the truth? Only Kevin would believe her!
"You... you won't take Kevin away from me! Kevin belongs to our Davis family!" Mrs. Davis shouted without any confidence. She didn't know how much Oliver knew, how much he believed! That damn Mrs. Smith!
"Oliver has the blood of the Smith Family. How could he be yours, from the Davis family? One day, he will see through your true colors and return to the Smith Family." Mrs. Smith said coldly, turning away and leaving.
Mrs. Davis stared at her departing figure, stomping her foot in frustration. She wouldn't let Kevin return to the Smith Family, absolutely not! Fuming with anger, she hurriedly walked towards Kevin's suite.
However, she was still a bit nervous inside, wondering what Kevin was doing at that moment. How much influence did Mrs. Smith have on him? Taking a deep breath, Mrs. Davis pushed the door and entered, scanning the suite before heading to the study.
Fortunately, Kevin couldn't discern anything unusual. He sat at the desk working diligently as usual. When he saw her coming, he smiled and greeted, "Mom, you're here? Sit outside and take a rest for a while."
Mrs. Davis didn't pay attention to his words, standing by the study door, observing him with confusion. Why was Kevin so calm? Wasn't he supposed to rush up and question her about what happened 25 years ago?
Hadn't Mrs. Smith just told him the truth? Yet, he seemed as calm as if nothing had happened!
To find out what was going on, Mrs. Davis hesitated and asked, "Kevin, what did Mrs. Smith just tell you?"
Kevin didn't expect her to ask this way. He glanced at her and casually said, "Oh, nothing much, just some old stories that aren't worth mentioning."
"Kevin, do you really think so? Are you willing to believe that Mom sincerely loves you?" Mrs. Davis felt uneasy, and the more he pretended to be indifferent, the more anxious she became. Guilt was eating at her, making her feel like a thief being caught!
"Of course, Mom, why do you ask?" Kevin looked at Mrs. Davis, who appeared worried and asked with a smile. Whether she truly loved him or not, he could feel it himself, couldn't he?
Mrs. Davis hurriedly asked, "Then, would you abandon the Davis family and go back to be the second young master of the Smith Family?" This was crucial, and it was her biggest concern. If she lost Kevin, she didn't know what the existence of the Davis family meant anymore!
Kevin looked at her in earnest, smiled, and reassured, "No, Mom, I will always be your son, and I will never abandon the business of the Davis family." The Davis family that nurtured and raised him – he wouldn't leave it casually!
"Good to know." Mrs. Davis nodded with gratitude. This answer was beyond her expectations. She felt excited and satisfied. The heavy stone in her heart finally fell, as long as Kevin stayed well by her side!
After a few days of leisurely life, Flora's complexion improved a lot. She admired herself in the mirror for a while, feeling that she was becoming more and more womanly. The slightly protruding belly and the fuller chest due to pregnancy all contributed to the essence of womanhood.
It had been a long time since she had enjoyed such a carefree and free life. Living here brought anticipation every day, looking forward to the quick arrival of the baby and the moments when Maxwell would step into this house.
She especially looked forward to occasional outings with him, dining outside, and browsing through maternity stores. Although he always sat in the shopping plaza waiting, unwilling to accompany her in strolling, she was already content. After all, it was a significant improvement!
"Flora, are ready?" Bella called from outside.
"Ready!" Flora responded and turned, flying out like a happy bird. Her figure was so light that she didn't look like a pregnant woman at all. The light purple off-shoulder dress successfully concealed her slightly bulging belly, making her look like a normal girl.
The three of them, as usual, walked towards the shopping plaza, laughing and joking. When they passed a baby specialty store, Flora unconsciously walked in and swayed the adorable crib inside.
A salesperson approached, smiling, and asked, "Hello, miss, are you interested in buying a crib? We have even cuter ones inside, and they come in various colors. If you're interested, you can take a look."
"Sure, where is it?" Flora was very interested in these things, unlike the other two who stood at the entrance with lackluster enthusiasm, waiting for her.
The salesperson led her inside, and as she stepped in, Flora felt her vision darken, and her legs went weak as she fell into someone's arms. What just happened? That was the last question that lingered in her mind!
"Hurry, bring those two in as well." A man instructed the salesperson, holding Flora and walking towards the back door.
There had been a reminder about the two women outside being skilled, so the nervous salesperson went out. With a smile, she said to them, "Ladies, your friend asked you to come in and help choose colors."
"Buying a crib so early, are you kidding?" Lily rolled her eyes with a hint of irritation.
The two of them walked inside without any suspicion. Just a few seconds after entering, the sedative catalyzed their consciousness, and they lost awareness.
After tying them up with ropes, the salesperson clapped her hands. The mission was finally accomplished, and it turned out to be so perfect!
Maxwell returned to the apartment, but when he pushed the door open, there was no usual aroma of food, and the cheerful figure was nowhere to be seen. Naturally, the first thought in his mind was that Flora had gone off somewhere again.
He took out his phone and dialed the number. It was the phone he had left for her to use. After numerous dials with no response, the displeasure in his heart intensified.
Accustomed to having her around, a sudden change was not easy to adapt to. However, she wasn't answering the phone, and currently, there was no way to contact her.
With an empty stomach, Maxwell entered the house. After taking a shower, he began his seemingly endless work. However, even when the sky turned completely dark, there was still no sign of Flora. He redialed the phone multiple times, but no one answered it!
Suddenly, he remembered that Bella and Lily might have phones. So, he changed the dial to Darren's phone, asking him to find out the whereabouts of these women.
Half an hour later, Darren responded that the phone was not reachable, and the people couldn't be found.
Maxwell finally felt a bit anxious. He started calling repeatedly and ordered Darren to immediately gather people to search for Flora. Realizing that something might have happened to her, Maxwell's heart became restless and uneasy.
But the city of W was so vast, where could he possibly find her in this sea of people? How easy was it to locate her? His clenched fist slammed on the desk, and Maxwell gritted his teeth, whispering, "Flora! You better not have sneaked away, or you'll regret it!"
No, he should be grateful that she sneaked away rather than something more serious happening. He had already assigned people to protect her, so what could go wrong? Hopefully, the Yota Gang wouldn't have any interest in her...
At this moment, he realized how afraid he was of losing her and the baby. Normally, because nothing unexpected had happened, he hadn't felt it. But today... his body was trembling slightly!
