Chapter 139: Chapter 139
Robin struggled all the way. As the guard carrying him passed by Maxwell's bedroom, he exerted all his strength to break free from the guard.
Bursting into Maxwell's bedroom, he shouted, "Big Brother! If you don't go save Flora, she's going to die. She's so pitiful; you can hear her crying again!" As he spoke, tears welled up in Robin's eyes out of urgency.
Chiyoko, who had been 'accompanying' Maxwell, quickly stepped forward to pull him towards the door, whispering, "Robin, be good. Flora is just sick, and she's receiving treatment. Stop bothering your Big Brother."
"She's not just sick! She's covered in injuries from being beaten. You wicked woman, as bad as them!" Robin shook off Chiyoko's hand, glaring at her and cursing.
Chiyoko was startled, a slight displeasure appearing on her face as she stared at him. Considering Mrs. Smith's previous teachings and Maxwell's presence, she had to suppress her anger and smiled coaxingly, "Robin, you don't understand adult matters. How about I accompany you back to your room to play?"
"No!" Robin shouted angrily, rushing to Maxwell's side and tugging at his hand. "Big Brother, you have to go quickly!"
Maxwell, with an indifferent expression, withdrew his hand and gently touched Robin's head. His gaze remained fixed on the distant place, his eardrums still being stimulated by the cries.
Flora repeatedly cried out that the child was his. Could it be true? This morning, she had told him the child was Kevin's. Did she change her words at night? Was she speaking nonsense out of fear?
He no longer knew which of Flora's words were true and which were false. In the end, unable to resist her cries, he turned and led Robin towards the bedroom door.
"Maxwell!" Chiyoko, anxious, stepped forward and grabbed his other arm. With pleading eyes, she used the calmest and gentlest voice she could muster, "Maxwell, don't easily believe her words. What she says at this moment is the least trustworthy."
Robin angrily pushed her aside, ignoring her words, and dragged Maxwell towards the door.
On the operating table, Flora cried until she had no strength left. When she gave up struggling, she finally saw the man she had been yelling to see all along. His expression remained cold and cruel. Suddenly, she felt ridiculous. Even if she called him, what could she do? Could he save her?
Staring at his bloodthirsty expression and Robin's joyful face, Flora couldn't help but sob when she gave up struggling. The maids next to her and Doctor Alan, who hesitated to act, voluntarily stepped aside, not daring to say a word.
Maxwell impassively surveyed Flora, whose face was dirty and hair was disheveled. Her arms were pinched and bruised, with visible handprints on her fair face, showing the extent of her misery.
His heart was stung, but his expression remained unchanged. Releasing Robin's hand, he stepped forward to her. Bending down, he helped her up from the operating table, gazing at her dirty face, and calmly asked, "I'll ask you one last time, whose child is it?" He hoped for a change in her words!
Flora stared blankly at him, tears streaming down her face as she choked out, "It's yours..." He had said that even if it were his, he wouldn't want it, so why bother asking her? Would it make any difference?
"Which of your words is the truth?" he asked sternly, increasing the pressure of the hand supporting her waist.
Without paying attention to the pain, Flora blinked away the tears, sobbing, "I wanted to tell you the truth, but you said even if the child was yours, you wouldn't want him..."
After a brief pause, she pleaded, "Big Young Master, can you let me give birth to him? You don't have to care about him. Just treat him as mine, can you?" Her misty eyes conveyed a strong sense of hope.
Maxwell stared at her and asked again in a serious tone, "Have you slept with Kevin?"
Flora shook her head frantically and hastily explained, "No, I swear... I really haven't." She admitted that she couldn't resist him, and that she shouldn't continue to resist. To save the child's life, she was willing to kneel and beg for him to spare her. Her stubborn personality shouldn't have surfaced at this critical moment!
Maxwell was a domineering man who wouldn't tolerate resistance from others. She had known this for a long time but never learned to cherish and protect herself, always provoking his fiery temper at the wrong times.
Maxwell gazed at her. After a long time, he put his arms around her and carried her out of the medical room. Passing through the garden towards the main house.
In the dim light, Flora looked up at his expressionless face, still unaware of what he was going to do next. Was he temporarily letting her go? Just based on her several sentences? When did he become so kind?
When Maxwell entered the house with Flora in his arms, Mrs. Smith and Chiyoko had just come out and were about to go to the backyard.
Seeing Maxwell bring Flora back, Mrs. Smith was shocked and exclaimed, "Maxwell, why did you bring her back again?"
Oh God! Maxwell's attitude towards Flora was so inconsistent. Wasn't it enough? He wasn't tired, but Mrs. Smith felt tired!
Seeing these two women, Flora instinctively burrowed into Maxwell's arms, unwilling to see them again, especially Chiyoko. She felt she had lost face and couldn't face Chiyoko anymore.
Chiyoko was Maxwell's fiancée, but she was carrying Maxwell's child. She dared not imagine how Chiyoko would react when she learned about this, how much she would hate her. She already hated her enough!
Maxwell looked at Mrs. Smith and calmly stated, "She says her child is mine."
Mrs. Smith and Chiyoko were both shocked, stumbling back a step. Chiyoko's face turned pale as if her heart had been emptied in an instant. Her body trembled slightly, and large tears dropped straight to the ground!
Mrs. Smith grabbed Chiyoko's arm, feeling a pang in her heart at the sight of her tears. She reproached Maxwell, "Maxwell! Do you think her words are trustworthy? You know she was forced to change her statement!"
Maxwell saw Chiyoko's tears, but he chose to ignore them, speaking without any emotional change, "I believe she wouldn't dare lie to me again. Otherwise, something more tragic than today will happen to her and her son."
Gripping Flora's hand tighter, it seemed more like a warning to Flora than something meant for Mrs. Smith to hear. Because he knew he couldn't bring himself to make her get rid of the child. He could only believe her words.
