Chapter 112: Chapter 112
In just twenty minutes, the clothes arrived. They were high-end international brands. Flora happily put them on. The dress fit her well and looked beautiful. What made her even happier was that there was no trace of Miss Chiyoko's presence on the clothes, so she didn't feel awkward.
"Have you seen enough? If you have, let's go out for breakfast." Maxwell urged her.
Breakfast? Flora was indeed hungry, but she still timidly asked with an empty stomach, "You killed someone yesterday and now you're flaunting it everywhere. Isn't that a bad idea? If caught, it's a capital offense!"
"If you have the leisure to worry about that, you should worry more about yourself. Don't wander around like you did last night at such a late hour." Maxwell sneered, then took the car keys and walked towards the door. After a few steps, he turned back and stared at her, saying, "Also, I advise you to forget about what happened last night and never mention I killed someone."
"Oh." Flora covered her mouth, "Loose lips sink ships, I won't mention last night's events again." Yes, she should forget about last night, forgetting it would also calm her anxiety!
"Good to know." Maxwell finished speaking and continued walking towards the door, with Flora following closely behind.
As they stepped out of the elevator, in the convenience store in the residential area, the top headline of the newspaper was about the shooting case from last night, with big bold letters mentioning a reward for information about the culprit.
Flora became frightened, feeling as if there were countless pairs of eyes watching her from behind. Meanwhile, the perpetrator calmly walked towards the parking lot. She had originally wanted to buy a newspaper to find out more, but she resisted the urge remembering Maxwell's warning.
Maxwell drove the car to a high-end restaurant. The two got out of the car and walked inside. The waiter respectfully led them to the restaurant. As they passed a corner, Flora's gaze was suddenly drawn to a familiar face!
Unable to help herself, she whispered, "Kevin..."
As she whispered, Maxwell, Kevin, and Betsy, who was dining with Kevin, all looked up and made eye contact. There was something different flowing in each person's eyes.
Betsy, in particular, looked back and forth between Kevin and Maxwell, unable to speak from shock. These two... looked identical? It was so surprising! No wonder when she asked Mrs. Black about Flora, Mrs. Black told her not to worry about that woman because she had nothing to do with Kevin! So this was the reason.
Kevin casually flipped through today's newspaper, a strange smile appearing on his face. He then smiled and said, "Flora, what a coincidence. Would you like to join us for a meal?"
"No... no, thank you." Flora awkwardly smiled. She couldn't afford to forget Maxwell's warning, especially when he was still present. She could already sense the tension between the two.
"Hmm, you can have a meal with Flora another day then," Maxwell calmly glanced at the newspaper in Kevin's hand and looked at him. After speaking, he put his arm around Flora's slender waist and walked towards an empty seat.
Flora had hardly ever eaten with Maxwell before, and she wasn't sure if it was because of her nervousness or because Kevin' gaze was nearby. She always felt that his gaze contained some unpleasant messages, occasionally directed at her.
At the same time, Betsy's eyes kept glancing at the spot where Maxwell was seated. When Kevin turned, Betsy curiously asked, "Kevin, what's going on? How can that man look exactly like you? Who is he?"
Kevin glanced at her and didn't want to say much about the matter. He simply said, "I don't know either."
"I remember that girl. Wasn't she your companion? How did she end up with that man...? She is that man's girlfriend?" Betsy asked.
Kevin felt annoyed and replied, "How can I know? She's just my assistant!"
"Oh, so she's just your assistant," Betsy said with a smile, feeling extremely happy. It seemed that she had one less love rival now.
The happier she was, the more uncomfortable Kevin felt, as if Flora was his and had suddenly been taken away from him!
After returning home, Flora couldn't avoid Auntie Grace's repeated questioning. Auntie Grace stared at her with a suspicious look and asked, "Flora, last time you said you were at a classmate's house, is it the same this time?"
Flora stood by the door and awkwardly chuckled, "Auntie, last night, a friend suddenly called and invited me, so I went over temporarily."
Hearing her explanation, Auntie Grace felt somewhat relieved, but still reminded her in a serious tone, "The situation is chaotic everywhere now. It's best not to go out at night if there's no need. If you do go out, come home early, alright?"
"I understand, Auntie," Flora obediently promised.
"Don't just promise with your mouth like Chloe does. You need to follow through with your actions! Look here, these random shootings are happening so frequently," Auntie Grace said, pushing the newspaper she held toward Flora and pointing to a large photo on it.
Flora saw that it was a murder case from last night and quickly took the newspaper to look at it. The large photo depicted the horrifying scene of the shooting, and the newspaper not only described the incident but also praised the skills of the shooter. There were no traces left at the scene as if the bullets themselves vanished.
"Nowhere is peaceful these days. These gangsters should be arrested and executed!" Auntie Grace shook her head and scolded the perpetrators angrily.
"Well, they were killing Japanese anyway. Less one of them means less trouble," Flora couldn't help but defend Maxwell. "And there must be a reason for killing them. Who knows how many bad things those two have done? They probably deserved to die a long time ago!"
Indeed, neither of them were good people. They were planning to silence her. Maxwell killed to save her, and although she didn't support being saved in that way, she also had half the responsibility! Yes, she had been in their car. Hopefully, she didn't leave any clues. The police wouldn't find her, right? She hoped not.
"Well, none of these gangsters are good people. Just stay away from them," Auntie Grace said.
Flora forced a bitter smile. It was too late, she had already gotten involved, and she had a relationship she could never escape from—the baby in her belly. She hoped her baby wouldn't follow in his father's footsteps.
