Chapter 34: Chapter 34

A scowl draped over his features as he gave her a once over. I look from Debbie to him, itching to leave because I was not comfortable. Her furious face spoke volumes, I didn't need to hear her voice to know she was angry, and that anger was probably directed at me. Forcing the lump in my throat down, rather than whimpering like a child, I start to pull my hand from his. But he held it strong, I couldn't pull my hand out of his, the grip on my hand was strong, willing myself to look up at him, I find his brown orbs on my face, the emotions swirling around in them made me jerk back. He looked at me tenderly, as if telling me not to go and he got it. And I believed him, so I smiled at him, he smiled back at me, making butterflies to play around in my stomach.

Debbie scoffed, drawing my attention from his face to her, she had a look of disbelief plastered on her face.

"What? You guys are sleeping with each other now?" She asked flabbergasted. A trance of hurt was shining through her features.

"Mind what you say Debbie." He said grating his teeth in annoyance. That's when I felt the full heat of what she said.

"You are defending her?" Her tone sounded really desperate.

By now people had started to crowd around us. I felt the weight of their eyes on me, and I started to feel uncomfortable, I think he noticed because he looked at me, and his expression shifted.

"Can you please stop bugging me? From now henceforth, where ever you see me, best pretend you didn't... That would be the best for both of us." He said with an air of finality before breezing past her with me in tow.

He didn't drag me along, he was gentle with me. Stopping in front of our class, no one was around there yet. He faced me squarely, looking into my eyes, searching for something, I didn't know what. But it made my heart race, I felt warm and fuzzy.

"Are you okay?" He asked me sincerely.

"Yeah I am, are you?" I asked completely breathless.

He smiled warmly at me, nodding his head, making his hair to Bob up and down.

"Let's not make you miss class for one more day." He said before placing a chaste kiss on my forehead and pulling me inside.

If he wasn't holding me, I knew I would have been a puddle of goo. My insides were already melted.

My friends were sitting in our usual seat when I got in, they both had cameras pointed in our direction when I opened the door.

I blushed in complete embarrassment.

"I'm sorry about them." I mumbled an apology quickly to him. He smiled and shrugged.

"It's fine, see you after class then? I'll walk you to your next one, that okay?" He asked.

I nodded shyly. He chuckled before slipping his hand out of mine and going to his seat at the back. I instantly missed the warmth of his hand. I sighed wistfully.

"What? We aren't enough anymore?" Sophie asked in mock annoyance.

"I still can not believe that just happened." Andrina said looking at the pictures on her own phone.

Before I could say anything the teacher walked in. And I suddenly felt like I haven't learnt anything in years, what was I doing skipping school?

"Miss Anderson? The principal is calling for you." A student said popping into the class in the middle of the lesson.

I felt a serious case of de ja vu wash over me. I looked to my teacher and she gave me the go ahead right before I slip out of the class.

"Hello Carolyn. Good to see you again in school." He said sarcastically.

I chuckle nervously.

"Good to see you too sir."

"You did something that got the whole school talking, you Carolyn, our examplery Student ran out of school before school started... That is not so examplery is it?" He asked firmly.

I shift from one feet to another, I usually don't get scolded so I didn't know what to do, but I flushed red.

"I'm sorry sir, it won't happen again."

"Make sure it doesn't. Because the new journalism club wasn't open because a certain Student body president skipped school." He said looking me dead in the eye.

I face palmed, I totally spaced about the journalism club.

"I am so so sorry sir, I forgot.."

"Do it today, this is your first time so we can't do anything about it, and up until now you've been a perfect Student, so you are off the hook, just make sure to apologize to Miss Lucy, she was really excited to open her club." He interrupted me.

I nodded and thanked him profusely.

"You better be off to class now, before it becomes three days of being absent in your class register." He said waving me away.

I nodded before I left. I felt disappointed in myself, in my manifesto before I became Student body president, I promised to fulfill all my duties on time, and I broke one, because I was careless. I didn't even know how to approach Miss Lucy, I heard this was her first time to have a club, now I slowed down the opening of her club. She must be so mad at me, not to talk about the disappointment.

I decided I was going to apologize to Lucy first before I go back to class. Taking a detour, I find myself in front of Lucy's office. After debating on how I was going to apologise, and practicing my speech, I knock twice.

"Come in."

I took a huge breath before opening the door. The place was different, it was beautiful, posters of different journalism quotes hung on the wall, she did a perfect job. But it was empty, the cubicles meant to hold the student journalists we're just there gathering dust, but if I had opened it, it would be full with students, and papers, I too would have been there.

"Carrie? Long time no see." Lucy said from her desk.

She was smiling. I swallowed my guilt.

"Hi Miss Lucy."

"Cut the crap will ya? Call me Luce or Lucy."

I winced at her word but nodded choosing not to comment on her choice of words.

"I am so sorry, I completely forgot about the opening of the club." I say in one breath.

She chuckled.

"I know you were with my brother, even the sneaky sneaky thing he did with the windows... So how can I be mad at you?"

I was astounded.

"Really?"

"Yes really, but you definitely have to open the club today okay? It gets lonely here, besides, I don't know what my lover boy brother would have you do tomorrow."

At that I blushed, hard.

"I definitely will open it today, thank you so much Lucy."

"Now hurry to class, I heard you hate missing classes."

I nod gratefully before dashing out.

On my way to class, I made up my mind to not skip class ever again because of the way I had dented my promise.

But immediately I got into the class and I saw the beautiful boy smiling at me from the back of the classroom, my promise flew right out of the window. Again.
