Chapter 26: Chapter 26
Joseph's POV.
Somehow I ended up in a flower shop. I don't even know how, I hadn't come here before, so.. how? I got down from the car, and entered the flower shop, I read the sign above, the name was floral shop , how nice. Outside looked like your every day shop, packed with different flowers outside. But the inside was gorgeous. It looked like a green house. The interior designer must have put in a lot of work. The entrance was cold, the air conditioner was turned on. And I loved it, I welcomed it. The green house was about ten feet away from where I stood, at the sight of the flowers, I got excited. I sighted a receptionist that smiled warmly at me,
"Hello Good Evening, welcome to floral shop." She looked fresh out of high school. I threw in my most charming smile but it felt too forced, so I tuned it down a bit. She didn't blush. Weird.
"It is a fine evening indeed, but you are finer." I lean in to whisper to her. Leaning back out to see her facial reaction, because that was always the best part of pick up lines, their reactions, they look confused at first, then flustered, then they blush. Not this one though, this one wore a blank face. I was shocked,
"Hahaha, very funny, hopefully that's not what you tell girls to have them swooning, because it's cringe as fuck." She said looking disinterested in our conversation. I blinked a thousand times.
"Awe don't feel bad honey, I don't like men." She said not looking sorry at all.
I was feeling wounded, because I thought that was a very fine pick up line.
"I thought you were supposed to be nice to customers." That was my very lame comeback, I wanted to smack myself upside in the head, but not in front of her. I think she sensed my self questioning for that query, because she smirked.
"Our manager gave us the go, to eat up anyone trying to harass us." She shrugged.
"I wasn't trying to harass you." I defend myself. She wasn't even my type.
"Yes you were, is there anything in particular you want to pack for you, I don't have all day "
My eye twitched.
"No thanks, I got it from here." I tell her right before moving into the mini green house.
I was hit by the make shift sun. I knew it was no sun, because the sun was already going back into the clouds.
Rows of different types of flowers, different colors, made me smile. I touched the soft petals. Trying to get the feel of gardening again. I didn't realize how much I missed gardening. I quickly added start a new garden to my mental note.
I didn't know what flowers to pick, and didn't know who I was getting it for, i decided to get one for mom, her favorite, white roses. Plus it meant respect. After picking the one I wanted, I couldn't find it in me to leave, I didn't want to leave the endless rows of beautiful flowers.
"We are about to close, can you hurry up?" The rude receptionist asked.
I drew in a deep breath, "would it kill you to say please?" I asked, not peeling my eyes away from the flowers.
"Duh, just hurry up, besides, the sprinklers will soon come on."
The last line did the trick, I finally tore my eyes away from them. Turning to look at her, she had her eyes on the flowers.
"White Roses?" She asked.
"None of your damn business." I say passing by her rudely.
She followed shortly, not saying a word to me, which I was happy for.
"Thank you so much! Thank you!!" A short brunette said rushing in.
The rude girl brightened up immediately.
"Hey Good Evening, Thank you for shopping with us, my name is Prisca." She said flashing me a toothy grin. I look confusedly among them.
"Oh yeah, I had something to do, so I asked Tina to cover for me. Thank you so much Tina." Prisca said hurriedly.
I looked at Tina, she was looking at Prisca with sad love eyes, I was confused until I remembered she likes girls, she must have been in love with Prisca... But Prisca.. she's not into women. My suspicion became reality once Prisca brushed hands with me while giving me the flowers she wrapped. My eyes strayed back to Tina, she looked hurt, and sad, but you see she didn't blame her or curse her, she looked at her tenderly. It looked too familiar to me.
When I got home, Lucy was making dinner. I didn't want to talk to her.
"Where have you been?" Was what she asked without lifting her head, she sounded calm anyway.
"Out and about." I mutter under my breath, trying to be Vogue.
"Are you okay?" She asked, her head was still not up.
"Yeah I am."
Her head finally lifted, her eyes stayed on the flowers for a second, she smiled warmly. Then she looked at me.
"You were the one who started it, apologize to her."
I blinked, trying to think of what she was talking about. Then it clicked, candy lady.
"Did you hear what she told me?" I asked.
"Yes I did, you made her way it, you ticked her off, she is a sweet girl, she doesn't get angry, you made her angry. She didn't mean to say it, she said it out of anger."
"Yeah? Well out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh." I say, quoting the only Bible scripture I knew. Before turning around and going upstairs to mom.
Two knocks on her door, and she grunted, letting me know I could enter.
As usual, she was on her phone.
"Hey Mom." I say quietly.
She was facing the wall, away from me, she didn't respond to my greetings but I know she heard because her fingers stopped typing for a second, she was surprised to see me, I don't usually seek her out.
"I got these for you." I say, dropping the flowers in front of her.
This time one hand let go of her phone, she looked.. happy, not our usual grin, but she wasn't scowling anymore. I was so content that I made that happen.
"I heard you made a girl cry." She said quietly. Too quietly. I almost missed it
Of course Lucy would tell her.
"I don't think she cried Mother."
"Girls always do, I want you to apologize to her."
Okay, what was wrong with every one?
"And date her."
I almost died laughing at that one.
After my laughter subsisided. She looked at me, calmly.
"I'm fucking serious."
She turned to her phone, and continued to type, meaning, conversation was over.
I turned on my bed, wondering what would make her say that. Where on Earth did she that idea.
Suddenly I sat up, something flashed in my head. The look on Tina's face... I saw it on Lucy's face right before we went for the picnic, she looked at Mr Anderson that way.
