Chapter 19: Chapter 19

Joseph's POV

I groaned again, and again and again. Before giving Lucy a sideways glare. She glared right back. We were in heated glaring competition, both glaring for completely different reasons. I didn't want to go on her picnic, and her sweet pea refused to start. Honestly, I was thankful for that, if it didn't start I could find ways to leave this neighbor-ly reunion.

"You do know string of bad luck means back out right? Maybe it's trying to tell you to back out and go back inside the house.." I tell her, feeling very good about my logic.

"You know get the fuck out of my face and help me, means GET THE ACTUAL FUCK OUT OF MY FACE AND HELP ME, right?" She screamed at me.

I winced at how loud she was.

"There is literally nothing I can do for you right now."

"Yeah? How about shut the fuck up, and follow me quietly to the picnic, maybe even stop whining about it?" She asked exasperated. She tried the ignition again, it groaned, then stopped.

I looked at her efforts, it must mean something to her, for her to put in so much effort. So I didn't argue anymore, I sat back down, and rested my head on the head rest with my eyes closed. I didn't make any sounds like she said.

Suddenly, as if hit by a literal light bulb. She made the "aha!" Sound. I didn't want to hear the idea. I was almost sure it'll be terrible.

"Wait right here." She told me before dashing out of the car. I didn't look to see where she was going to, my eyes were still closed, it'll be stressful to open them.

I remembered I made plans with Debbie, I cursed internally. I didn't want her to know my place, so we were supposed to meet at her's, she'll just think I stood her up. I groaned, trying to reach my phone, so I could cancel.

"It's no problem really!!! The more the merrier!!, Cars break down every now and then. It's not your fault." A very chirper voice said from the side of the car.

"I'm so grateful to you right now, I just need to pick a few coolers from our car." Lucy tells the voice.

I frowned and looked outside the window, they were getting closer. I saw it was an expensive looking lady, she looked like money. Even in her button down shirt, she looked like she had big fat bank accounts. I looked at Lucy, who was wearing a simple dress, she didn't even know how different they were. I swallowed and looked away.

"This is my car." Lucy said when they got to the car.

"This??" She asked in pure shock. I scoffed. Rich people.

Lucy was very oblivious to the fact that her new friend wasn't so excited to see something not flashy or expensive. Because she went all doll eyed.

"The one and only, my baby pea."

I expected the lady to scream, "the one and only?" Because she probably had more than one and only of them. But she smiled.

"Hey Joey? Can you please help us bring the coolers down to the Anderson's?" Lucy asked.

I just sighed and got down from the car.

"My Jesus, Lucy you have such a beautiful brother." The lady said smiling really sincerely. There was this spark I saw in her eyes, they looked familiar... They glared at me once.

"Hello Mrs Anderson, my name is Joseph." I say drily.

Lucy giggled, meaning I did well. I went straight to the back, and carried the few coolers back to the Anderson's house. A van was parked outside. A man wearing a blue t-shirt was putting things in, his head was in the boot of the van, I guessed he would be the Mr Anderson.

"Uhm, hi, I was asked to bring this here."

The man turned, and smiled. I could have sworn he looked familiar. Very very familiar. He took the coolers from me and put in the trunk.

"Thank you, I presume you are Joe Wilson?"

I nodded, still confused as to where I met him before.

"Stop being dramatic!!" A little girl's voice shrilled.

"Gabby.." the man sighed.

He walked towards the open garage, I followed slightly, stopping when I could see the mother, a little girl and now the father crowd the student body president. They were trying to get her to breath. I was going to look away but I saw Lucy standing at the side, glaring at the man. I frowned, did she know him? Her glare was very very intense.

I was going to go and ask her what was wrong, before the family started in my direction. Quickly, I averted my eyes, feeling embarrassed because I was caught watching their family moment.

"Sorry dear, we had a slight issue..." The lady apologized to me and Lucy, glancing at her daughter worriedly.

"It's no problem!" Lucy said smiling brightly like she wasn't just glaring. I blinked in confusion.

"Okay good, so, I'll be sitting with my husband in front, and it's a six sitter, I guess you guys can be comfortable enough." The woman said happily.

"Are you sure you are okay sweetie?" Mr Anderson asked his daughter, worry etched into his features. I gave Lucy a sideways glance, this time she looked hurt... I didn't understand, did she have a crush on Mr Anderson?

"I'm fine.." was the only reply she gave, I barely heard it because her head was bowed.

"How silly of me! I completely forgot, forgive me. Lucy, Joseph, meet my husband, George.." she looked at him adoringly. He blushed. Ew.

I nodded at him, Lucy managed a smile, but I could see she looked hurt.

"Lucy, Joseph.. meet my two gifts, Carolyn and Gabriella."

I looked over at student body president, so she was Carolyn.

"Carrie..." She murmured.

"Gabby.." her sister said looking bored.

"Carrie, Gabby.. meet our new neighbors, Joseph and Lucy."

Lucy smiled brightly, she hugged them both.

"Hi, I Don't know if you've seen me around, but I'm your school's new journalism club president, I know you are the student body president." Lucy babbled. Carrie looked shocked.

"I'm sorry I didn't meet you sooner, I was going to, but I was looking for a certain new student." She said glaring at me, again.

"Oh him, for the tour right? He was in my office sleeping." Lucy said. I almost face palmed. Why did she say that?

She glared harder.

"You know each other?" Her mom asked looking confused.

"Yes."

"No"

She said no, glaring at me.

After two minutes, she was still glaring. Her mom smiled awkwardly.

"Why don't we all go into the car?"

Carrie huffed and went in first.

We blinked and followed her in, I wanted to sit beside Lucy, but she placed her bag on the seat, using her eyes to point to Carrie who was sitting beside the window, an empty seat beside her. I frowned but didn't want to make a scene, I went to sit beside her, she sneered at me.

"Why don't you go sit with Debbie???!" She shouted.

Everyone blinked in confusion. She huffed and wore her earphones. I looked around for an empty seat, and sat on... As the car rolled away from the driveway. I could have sworn I saw my mother smirking at us from her window.
