Chapter 11: Chapter 11

"Shhhh don't tell ha' yet!" Felicia quickly shushed the doctor when he finally sobered up enough to tell me what it is that was happening to me. I just stared at the both of them in confusion, what would they be keeping from me? And it was about me.

"Carolyn, has this ever happened to you before?" The doctor asked me, trying to suppress his laughter. I opened my mouth to answer then shut it, trying to think back to before now. If anything like this had happened to me, but I came up blank. Slowly, I shook my head no.

"No sir... This is the first time." I answered sincerely.

The doctor was red, trying to suppress the laughter that still slipped out of his lips. I frowned, and peered at him through the thick frames of my glasses.

"What is wrong with that, Doctor? I asked placing emphasis on the Doctor, so he could realize himself and finally do his job.

"Oh sweet heavens! My girl is funny as hell!" Felicia exclaimed, she was full out laughing, not even bothering to hide it. I was getting annoyed. I was serious here, but okay.

I got up sharply, because I still had to do my bit at the volunteering, I walked out of the door, and into their library, so I could arrange their books on the shelf. Making a mental note to visit a doctor out of here, since this one was not taking me seriously.

"Your shift is over, it's my turn now." May said.

I blinked at the huge clock. It was true, my shift was over. I offered her a smile, but she just walked away. I don't know why I still tried, she was one of the people that rushed here because they needed it on their applications for college, I worked here ever since I became a senior. I don't know if May had anger issues, or just didn't like talking to me, but the most she has ever said to me was those eight words, every day. I shrugged, and picked up my bag from one of the couches, greeting everyone before I left, except the Doctor and Felicia, I was still a bit annoyed.

Mom came to pick me up today from the Elderlies. I got in the front seat, planning on sanitizing it myself when I got home.

"How was school today honey?" Mom asked sparing me a quick glance before putting her eyes firmly on the road.

"It was..." I stalled, thinking of the exact words to use, the one that perfectly described my day.

"It was... eventful." I say finally. I still couldn't find the perfect word.

"And work?" I asked, because I was genuinely curious about it. I really loved the animals.

That's why I worked there every Saturday, I worked at the elderlies three times a week, and the library one time. The last day was for my lessons, all of them. And Sunday was my homework day.

"You know Marnie finally opened her eyes!" Mom said excitedly.

I felt a ball of excitement too, Marnie was a bird we got recently. She was so cute, it was sad that her mom died while keeping her from the harsh weather.

"That is good news! I can't wait to see her." I say just as mom entered our driveway.

I went upstairs to change, I didn't see dad anywhere around. I concluded that he was not back from work. And Gabby wasn't downstairs either, wherever she is, hopefully they keep her.

Taking a cold bath because I was really hot and sweaty, I sit in the bath tub for like twenty minutes. Letting the cold water massage my muscles. My eyelids shut on their own. And my day played in front of my eye balls. Immediately the face of Joseph Wilson came into focus, my heart beat increased. My eye lids flung open, how could I forget this disease in such a short time? I got out quickly, drying myself with my towel. And my phone rang, I went to it. It was Andrina. A smile spread on my face, and I picked up instantly.

"Hey what's up?" I asked placing my phone between my head and shoulders, trying to pick between the pink Barbie t-shirt and the pink Bratz t-shirt.

"Hey, I'm good, just you know, you not following us led to Sophie dragging me half across town to see this boys!" Andrina huffed in annoyance. I winced, I knew how intense Sophie could be for boys.

"I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed.

"It's fine, I got to meet this extremely cute guy!!" She exclaimed excitedly. I rolled my eyes, of course.

"Good for you" I say distractedly. I finally picked the Bratz t-shirt.

"So hey, how did the hospital thing go?" She asked after she must have sensed my disinterest in her boy story.

"Terrible! The doctor blew up laughing in my face!" I say, the annoyance came back.

"What doctor did you see? Please do not tell me it was the elderlies doctor." She said, she sounded like she was rubbing her face.

I blinked confused, "so should I tell you that I actually visited the Elderlies doctor?"

She groaned.

"Hey! Miss perfectionist! Mom's calling you." Gabby said barging in. I eyed her in annoyance. And signalled her to get out, she rolled her eyes before leaving.

"I'll call you back later, mom's calling."

"Okay, sure." That was the last thing she said before I disconnected the call.

I wore the T-shirt quickly on top of my pyjamas shorts, before going downstairs.

"How is a head band on your head right now?" Gabby asked. I simply ignored her.

"Hey Mom? You called?" I asked.

I could smell something cooking, something really delicious. My stomach grumbled.

"Yeah, help me set the table. Your dad's going to be here in two minutes." She answered from the kitchen.

I went and helped her set the table.

"Hey Dad." I greeted.

He beamed at me.

"Hey kiddo." He said coming to sit down, without changing clothes. I guess he was really hungry .

We all sat down to eat, as we ate in silence, I remembered my disease.

"Mom, Dad, I'm sick." I say quietly.

Mom chocked. Dad quickly rubbed her back. I passed her water. When she was okay again, we all sat back down.

"What do you mean Carrie?" She asked

"I have been feeling the symptoms, I went to a doctor.. he laughed in my face."

They shared a worried look.

"What symptoms honey?" Dad asked.

"Well it started after I bumped into this guy in school, my heart rate increased, and I couldn't breathe properly whenever I was close to him, my brain turned to mush each time I was around him. I don't know if it's contagious, I'll wash your car Mom." I say in one breathe.

All of them stared in silence. Even Gabby.

"How can you be so smart and yet so stupid?" Gabby asked me seriously. I frowned at her.

"Is that what you call disease?" Dad asked me in shock.

I nodded, I wasn't so sure, but what else could it be?

"I can't believe this is finally happening!" Mom said looking at me and smiling.

I was starting to freak out, what was happening with my family?

"Uhm guys?" I asked.

"We should celebrate this!" Mom exclaimed, she even clapped.

"Does your friends know about this?" I asked.

"They only know I have a disease... Wait, why are you so happy about this??" I asked in fright.

"Because sweetie.. it's not a disease... It's a.." Mom started to explain, but stopped short because of a knock on the door. She excused herself and went to get it.

I sat there, with my dad staring at me like he was seeing me for the first time in his life today.

Gabby just hissed and continued eating.

Mom came back with cookies.

"They are from the new neighbors, the daughter is so sweet." Mom said putting it in the fridge.

"We have new neighbors?" I asked.

"Yeah, they moved in yesterday."

I loved welcoming new neighbors, I love making them feel comfortable. I made a mental note to visit them after I must have gone to a real doctor this time.

"Who are they?" Dad asked.

"The Wilson's" mom said picking up her fork.

The name sounded familiar, where have I heard that before?

I put a piece of lettuce in my mouth.

Then it hit me, Joseph Wilson. This time, I chocked.

JOSEPH'S POV
