Chapter 64: Chapter 64

[Lucien’s POV]

There was fury evident in my eyes, and even the ever-so courageous Tyler knew he was about to taste my wrath, as I charged towards him with my claws out and fangs bared, ready to tear him limb from limb before my rage could reignite.

“Stay away from me,” Tyler barked, and nodded at his people who had been staring the whole time to come to his rescue.

“For Alpha Tyler,” his most trusted warrior yelled, but the people looked away.

“How many have died? How many more will die? We just managed to start getting our lives back together, but for some reason, our very own dear Alpha wants us to risk our lives for him. Hell no! I have children and I must stay alive to protect them,” the Gamma stated.

The crowd murmured in agreement with her statement.

“Once I get out of this, each one of you would die in the most painful manner, I promise you that!” Tyler raged.

Elder Gaius laughed. “That won’t be possible. Thanks to the witch, Jocelyn, we now have our separate lives and identities and we can’t be subjected to your will anymore. All we intend to do now is live amongst the humans in peace, without revealing the fact that we are werewolves. In fact, we pray the vampire succeeds in ending you for good, because with your actions, you’d blow our cover in no time,” he concluded.

“See, Tyler, no one wants you… not even your own people, not your daughter, not Luca, and definitely not Malia who would have laid down her life for you. If you decide to just leave and never show your face to us ever again, I can convince Lucien to let you go,” Nivera said, boldly approaching him.

“No, Nivera. I can’t forgive him… not after what he did to Celeste. I am sure she’s gone now, and there’s nothing…” my voice cracked a bit as I swallowed back tears. “…nothing I could do to save her. An eye for an eye!” I thundered.

“Lucien, listen to me…” Nivera started, but I ignored her and raced with a speed of lightning to Tyler, where I grabbed him by the throat, snatched the dagger from his hand and raised it to strike him.

However, midair, I paused and looked down slowly to see his little daughter, Talia, holding my leg with tears in her eyes. “Please, please, let my dad go. I know he’s a bad person, but he’s still my father,” she pleaded.

I was hellbent on bringing Tyler’s life to an unfortunate end, but I could not ignore the crying child.

“Please, listen to her. I’ll leave like Nivera has asked and you’ll never hear from me again, I swear,” Tyler stated.

I would been lying if I said I believed Tyler, but I didn’t. Still, looking at Talia, my emotions got the better of me and slowly, I lowered the dagger panting hard, as I reluctantly let go of my grip on his throat.

“You should be thankful to your daughter…”

I started saying, when Tyler suddenly shoved me aside roughly, kicking the dagger so that it landed on the floor and aiming at me with a gun I didn’t know he had in his pocket all along.

Tyler then pointed the gun right at my head as everyone else froze, waiting for him to pull the trigger.

“Let my dad go!” Luca yelled, bravely approaching Tyler from behind.

“Luca, don’t move and stay where you are. I’m a vampire. A gun like that can’t do anything to me,” I explained.

Tyler chuckled. “Bold of you to assume that I intend to use it on you. Killing you won’t make me happy. You know what will? Taking away the thing you love the most, and I know now that that’s Luca,” he said.

“What? He’s biologically your son. Are you saying you’ll kill him just to hurt me?” I yelled in disbelief, as Nivera went over quickly to stand in front of Luca and protect him.

“He doesn’t acknowledge me as his father, does he? I’d rather not have a son, than to have one that refers to my greatest enemy as his father. I took Nivera away from you and you lived in misery for four hundred years, I’m eager to know how your life would be without Luca especially since you can’t have kids of your own,” Tyler stated as he laughed hysterically.

“You’ll kill my son only over my dead body, and trust me, I’m not dying anytime soon,” I stated, looking over at Nivera, who was still guarding Luca with her arms spread out as she glared furiously at Tyler.

I was confident Nivera had it all in control, when Tyler’s most trusted guard appeared out of nowhere and forcefully yanked Nivera out of the way, and they began to engage in a fight.

With the distraction, Tyler pulled the trigger and I teleported to grab Luca, but just before I lifted him up, the shot was fired and I looked down with horror only to see Luca wasn’t hit.

I was about heaving a sigh of relief when the smell of blood hit my nose, followed by screams from the crowd.

I looked to see that it was Malia who had been hit. She had stepped in to protect my son and she was struck instead.

Blood gushed out of her stomach where the bullet had hit her, and I could only guess the pain that was coursing through her, as I opened my mouth in shock, watching the life drain out of her eyes.

“Mama!” Talia screamed, watching helplessly as a second bullet pierced her neck and that was when she fell to the ground.

The Pack members ran forward to find a solution to the problem and try to heal her, but even her wolf had given up on her.

“You monster! You killed my mother! I should have let the vampire kill you!” Talia screamed, shaking Tyler’s legs way too aggressively for a five-year-old.

It was only then Tyler seemed remorseful and regretful of his actions. “No… no… I didn’t intend to,” he muttered, gently pushing Talia away and forcing his way through the crowd which had now gathered.

Malia’s breathing got slower by the moment, and tears fell from her eyes. Tyler fell to the floor and touched her all over, and I could see regret all over him.

“Malia, I… I didn’t mean to do this to you… I’m sorry. I’ll treat you better, I promise. Just stay alive for me. I can’t live with this guilt… I’m sorry,” he said; his eyes clouded with tears.

“You have no excuse, Tyler. You intended to do this to your own son and not me? I might’ve said I’m grateful since you finally cared about me after all these years, but you know what? I understand why now. The only reason you ever kept me close is because I was the only one who was foolish enough to love you with all of my heart,” she managed to say, coughing out blood.

The Pack members grabbed him, forgetting he was their Alpha and began stoning him and beating him up.

I led Talia to her mother, Malia, who forced on a smile even in her last moments. “Mum,” Talia said, with tears falling from her eyes.

“This is all my fault. I should have protected Luca better,” Nivera said, pleading with Malia to stay alive.

“No, I wanted to die anyway. I died the moment my father died. I hurt so many people, including you because of Tyler. Please, take care of my daughter for me. I know I have no right to…” she started coughing out blood even harder.

“Save your strength. You have to be alive to take care of your own daughter,” I told her, but it was too late. Malia was gone, and like that, tears of agony filled the air. She had her bad moments, but she was a bright personality who’ll forever be missed.

While they all cried, I didn’t. All I was focused on was putting an end to the nightmare that was Tyler. Walking briskly, I stopped the crowd from throwing stones at him and crouched to place my knee on his chest.

“What’s the penalty for what he has just done?” I asked.

“Death!” the crowd roared.

“And death it shall be,” I said.

“ I’ll still come back even if you do so. I’ll come back again and ruin all your lives. Even if you kill me, I’ll be reborn like I was before and make all your lives a living hell,” Tyler screamed.

“Not if your body is burnt to ashes, Tyler. This is your end. You’re never coming back to life again. Goodbye,” I said, and with that, I tore his heart right out of his chest.

Immediately, he was rendered lifeless and minutes later, he was set on fire, forever putting an end to the menace that had tormented each and every one of us in one way or another.
