Chapter 38: Chapter 38
[Nivera’s POV]
Two days had gone by quicker than I had expected. As the makeup artist powdered my face, I stared at my reflection in the mirror, wearing a blank expression. Perhaps, in the whole of history, I was the first person to not be happy about getting married to an Alpha King. Most girls would kill to be in my position, but as for me, I just wanted this nightmare to be over.
The stylist adjusted my white gloves, and looked at me with a smile, admiring the work she had done in putting the outfit together.
“I have to admit, I wasn’t your biggest fan, but you do have the grace and elegance of a queen,” she said.
“It’s all thanks to you,” I said, dryly, with a forced smile.
She blushed hard, appearing flattered. “As Luna, you’d have many events to attend and many ceremonies to plan. I’m not sure anyone has told you this yet, but you’d need a different outfit for each occasion. When the time comes, don’t forget to call on me. I’ll be there to dress you up perfectly,” she said.
“Don’t forget about me either,” the makeup artist stated.
“I promise not to,” I said to them, and they giggled like two little girls.
I was wearing a white tube wedding dress in form of a ball gown, laced with glitters that sparkled and made the dress look even more beautiful than it already was. The silver necklace that adorned my neck was a gift from the Alpha King, and it had once belonged to his mother, the former Luna. I also had on silver earrings and a tiara, embedded with precious stones, with emeralds, rubies and diamonds being more prominent than others.
It was safe to say that I looked like a princess out of a fairytale book, but I wasn’t getting married to Prince Charming. The makeup artist finished with her job, and the stylist clipped a transparent net veil to my hair which was styled and packed into a low bun.
“You’re so beautiful. I didn’t even have to do much work on your face,” the makeup artist said, smiling at me as I just kept on staring at my reflection.
“Thank you,” I said to her.
“We should go now. Your maids are waiting outside to take you to the wedding hall where every member of the Pack is standing, waiting for you,” the stylist said, handing over to me a bouquet of white roses.
“Thank you so much for your help,” I said, and with her help, I stood up, adjusting my feet properly in the low silver heels that were a tad bit uncomfortable as they were undersized.
“Are you ready?” they asked simultaneously.
I looked around, but there was no sign of him. I thought that at least, he’d have shown up today for me. I had no one else, but him, and after just making me marry the Alpha King, he could have at least, had the decency to come and give me moral support… but was that really why I wanted to see him? Honestly, I just wanted to see him one last time and if possible, convince him to let me leave with him, but as I looked around and didn’t see him, I knew he wasn’t going to show up, even if I went ahead and pricked myself with my own fingernail.
“Earth to Nivera,” the stylist said, jolting me from my thoughts.
“I’m sorry, I zoned out. Yes, I am ready,” I said to her, and with that, I turned around to leave the dressing room. The door was opened, and the two young maids assigned to me led me to the wedding hall after complimenting me, to which I just gave a small smile.
I gasped in awe the moment I stepped my feet into the hall. It was decorated with glimmering lights, expensive ribbons and curtains, fanciful balloons and of course, precious stones. I was surprised as to how they could organise something so beautiful and perfect in just two days, and thankfully, the veil was covering my face and prevented everyone present from seeing the surprised look on my face.
From where I stood, I could see the Alpha at the altar on which a small statue of the Moon Goddess was, and he looked stunning as ever. He was dressed in a white suit with black trims and a white shirt, paired with black trousers, a black pocket square and a black bow tie. His curly blonde hair had been jelled, and he was adorned with the most expensive wristwatch, a single diamond stud and his shiny black leather shoes communicated the fancy aura he intended on giving out.
“Hurry up,” he mouthed to me, touching his wristwatch, with a frown on his face.
I ignored him and walked slowly, matching my steps to the sound of the melody made by the choir of singers he had called. As a maid, I had been lucky enough to attend the weddings of some noble people in the community, and no, they never walked quickly as they walked down the aisle. I wasn’t sure if that applied to me since I wasn’t of noble birth, and I was probably the first to walk in without being held by my father or a male relative.
As I walked down, I could feel the condescending gaze all members of the Pack cast upon me. It was glaring that they hated me, and not even the diamonds that dazzled on my tiara was enough to distract them from the visible hatred they had towards me. I inhaled and exhaled over and over again, trying to keep my steps steady and my anxiety away.
Soon, I got to where the Alpha was, and stood opposite from him.
“Took you long enough,” he whispered to me fiercely, and I just bowed a little as an apology, even though I didn’t mean it.
The Pack’s wedding officiator began the usual long boring formalities, and about ten minutes later, he went to the main thing.
“Do you, Alpha King, Tyler Jefferson, take Nivera Hayes to be your lawfully wedded wife and spend the rest of your life with her no matter the trials and travails of life?” he asked.
Through the net of the veil, I saw the Alpha smile. “Yes, I do,” he said.
“Do you, Nivera Hayes, take the Alpha King, Tyler Jefferson, to be your lawfully wedded husband and spend the rest of your life with him no matter the trails and travails of life?” he asked.
I swallowed hard, wishing that the ground would open up and swallow me up. Since that didn’t happen, I answered, “Yes, I do.”
“If any is opposed to this marriage, raise your hands and state your reasons,” he said.
“They wouldn’t dare,” the Alpha said aloud, and everyone present began to laugh out loud at his statement.
I also chuckled a little bit, thinking to myself that getting married to Alpha Tyler might end up not being as bad as I assumed it would be. Perhaps, it was all for the best. Lucien always seemed to know what he was doing anyway, and since he had asked me to marry him, maybe his reason was truly for my own good.
If I had known what would happen next, I wouldn’t have been so quick to jump into conclusions thinking that like every other fairytale, this wedding would end in me living happily ever after with the Alpha King.
The laughter had quieted down, and the officiator cleared his throat and continued. “I hereby pronounce you man and…”
“Excuse me, are we just going to stand here and pretend that it’s okay for the Alpha King to get married to this good-for-nothing conniving demon?”
All heads turned at once to regard the person who had just spoken. It was someone I hadn’t seen in quite some time; my forever bully, Delilah.
“Are you out of your mind? Seize that fool at once,” the Alpha commanded, visibly enraged.
“We have proof to show that the Omega isn’t who you think she is. She is nothing but a cheap thing who has been practicing witchcraft behind our backs,” her usual accomplice, Alice, stated, and the crowd gasped in shock.
“Don’t you think she should be executed in accordance with our laws? Isn’t such an act disgraceful, your highness, especially for someone who is minutes away from becoming the Luna of the Crescent Pack?”
I was thrown into a state of total confusion and had no idea where their lies were coming from, but as I saw a smirk playing on Malia’s face who was in the front row, dressed in a sparkling white dress with a white hat that was designed with feathers, I had an idea of what might have happened. She had once asked them to make my life unbearable, and if truly she was involved, there was no way I could ever win against her.
