Chapter 19: Chapter 19
[Lucien’s POV]
I closed my eyes and opened them again. I couldn’t believe that he was right there and standing in front of me.
“Good evening. I’m sorry to disturb you, but…”
“Why are you here? How did you find this place?” I inquired.
He looked surprised. “I’m sorry, do I know you?” he asked.
“No, you don’t, and you’re lucky you don’t. Now, tell me. What are you looking for?” I asked in a hoarse voice.
“I was wondering if you saw Nivera. She’s slender, has fair skin, green eyes and blonde hair,” he explained.
I sneered. “I’m surprised you know those things about her. I thought she was just an ordinary cursed slave. I didn’t know you knew other ways to describe her,” I said.
He clenched his fists. “Who the hell are you? I know you’re not a werewolf, but you apparently know a thing or two about me. I wasn’t too sure at first, but I am now confident that Nivera is here with you,” he attempted to walk in through the gate, but I remained firm and didn’t let him go through.
“Are you out of your mind? This is my home and you can’t just barge in if you feel like it,” I said.
“Spare me that, who cares if this is your home or not? My mate is in there and I need to see her right now,” he said, almost at the top of his voice.
I didn’t need him shouting right now. If Nivera heard his voice and came out to see him, old feelings might be rekindled and I had no intention whatsoever of letting her go back to him.
“First tell me, how did you find this place?” I inquired, still perplexed.
“She told you I’m her mate, didn’t she? Well, I followed the mate pull and it led me to this place. Now, let me see her or you’ll regret what I would do next to you,” he threatened.
I tried to hold back my laughter, but I couldn’t and I burst out laughing hard. “You have the audacity to threaten me? Wait here for me. I’ll be right back,” I said.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
I didn’t answer him and just locked the gate, then hurried inside. I couldn’t take chances. If he could trace her here just by using the goddamn mate pull, it meant that Celeste was right. Their connection was greater than I had imagined and I needed to make sure Nivera didn’t step out. With Celeste’s spells, the energy in the house was too great to accommodate the mate pull, and that was why she hadn’t been feeling drawn to where the Alpha was, but if she left the house, things might change.
I quickly stepped in, and was welcomed with a beautiful smile from her.
“You’re back. Who was that?” she asked.
“An old friend. Hey, I’d need you to go up to your room and remain there till I say otherwise,” I said.
She walked towards where I stood. “Why? Is something wrong?” she inquired with a small pout.
“No. I just need to take care of something. You can read your books and I’ll join you very soon,” I said to her.
“Okay then. I’ll be waiting for you,” she said, and I gave her a small smile as she walked up the stairs and didn’t leave the living room until I heard her bedroom door shut close.
I headed back outside only to see Nivera’s so-called mate, Tyler, in my compound prancing about.
“There you are,” he said, flexing his knuckles with a determined look in his eyes.
“How did you get in?” I asked, sure that I had definitely locked the gate.
“Is that even a question? I’m a werewolf, loser. Now, bring that thing before me or you will lose your head,” he said.
“She doesn’t want to see you,” I said, even though I didn’t know if that was true or not.
He scoffed. “Do I look like I give a fuck about what she wants or not? Tell her that I’ll snap her into two if I have to enter your house to get her by myself,” he threatened.
“I don’t understand you. You came several miles just to see her, and now, you’re threatening to kill her? I don’t get it,” I said.
“I would have explained, but you certainly don’t need an explanation. Since you won’t cooperate, I guess I have no ire he choice than to get her myself,” he said with a sneer and proceeded to walk in through the front door.
“Where do you think you’re going?” I asked, pulling him back and the next thing I knew, he let out his claws and pierced my arm, and while I staggered backwards and tried to regain my balance, he punched me in the face then kicked me in the stomach.
“Never touch me with those filthy hands again. Who do you think you are, you mere human?” he asked with an underlying low growl as he eyed me with visible disgust, then turned around to continue walking.
The pain that had seeped in quickly departed as the only thing I felt now was anger. I had tried to be nice; heaven knows I did. Celeste didn’t want me killing anybody, and I wanted to be good for Nivera. She didn’t want to hurt those who had hurt her, and I really wanted to respect her wishes, but no werewolf would dare barge into my home, assault me and try to kidnap my woman. The last time I had been quiet and tried to settle things with words and not my fist, I had ended up with Eloise’s corpse. It wouldn’t happen again. History would not repeat itself.
In that moment, I was only focused on putting him in his place and immediately, I lunged forward and surged into the air, giving him a kick on the head and landing in front of him. He was taken aback and hadn’t seen it coming.
He suppressed the pain he felt and attempted to retaliate, but I caught his hand just as he aimed to swing it in my eye, then twisted it, filled with the satisfaction of his bones cracking.
“You’re playing with fire,” he yelled, as sparks flew from his eyes and he tried to attack with his other hand which I ensured suffered the same fate.
Before he could think of trying to fight back with his legs, I teleported behind him so that he kicked the air, then with a strong push, I hauled him up onto the roof after which I let go of him and he fell to the floor with a bang and a loud yelp.
A satisfied smirk played around my lips as I approached him, and he couldn’t even flee as his legs were numb from the fall.
“Who… who are you?” It wasn’t that same thick voice that was filled with arrogance. It sounded more like a fearful whimper, and I could tell he was regretting what he and gotten himself into.
I crouched before him, looking him dead in the eyes and he failed to hold my gaze, but darted his eyes somewhere else.
I cupped his chin in my hands so that his eyes were focused on me. “Who am I? I am a werewolf’s worst enemy,” I said.
He looked confused, and to save him from his despair, I decided to help him out as a thought crossed my mind.
He was bleeding from his mouth and nose due to the heavy blows he had suffered at my hand and I just smiled, then wiping little of his blood with my thumb, I put it in my mouth and licked it, smiling even broader, humoured by the fact that his eyes which were once filled with disgust were now filled with horror.
“You… you are a… you are a vampire,” he said.
I nodded my head in the affirmative. “Yes, you’re right,” I said, then spat out his blood into his eyes and he blinked rapidly, then squeezed his face with so much irritation. “Don’t blame me. I couldn’t swallow blood that tastes worse than rotten eggs. I am a terrible person, Tyler, but I’m afraid you’re even much worse than I am,” I said, and with that, I banged my head against his and finally knocked him out.
Upstairs, Nivera laid in her bed, reading a novel. I was glad to have her with me, but staring at Tyler who had passed out and was laying on the ground, a never-ending fear made my heart beat faster and faster. I tried to brush it off, but I would later come to realise that I was right to have been afraid.
