Chapter 36: Chapter 36

"Doctor Felicity, it's good to see you.  I was expecting you on Saturday though" Doctor Mathew smiled at Felicity.

"It's good to see you too, well I'm not going to take most of your time. I want to talk about Victoria" Felicity said.

Doctor Mathew nodded thoughtfully "I'm surprised Harvey still hasn't called,  it's rather odd" Doctor Mathew said.

Felicity sighed "A lot is going on at the hospital now Doctor Mathew, Harvey is very busy" Felicity said.

Doctor Mathew smiled "Of course, Victoria is still unconscious. We're trying all our best to make her recover though" Doctor Matthew said.

Felicity nodded "That's great, but I think we should worry about Victoria's safety first" Felicity said. Doctor Mathew looked at her confused.

"Victoria is safe, I just said we're looking after her" Doctor Mathew said.

Felicity shook her head, "I don't mean health wise, we believe that whoever pushed Victoria knows exactly where she is and might come for her. I want us to move her somewhere else" Felicity said.

Doctor Mathew sighed, oddly enough he had strong protective feelings towards the unconscious girl.

"And we have to keep this between us, strictly between you, Darrell and I. No one else must know" Felicity said.

Doctor Mathew nodded. "Alright, I might have an idea of where to move her to. Somewhere she'd be safe" he said.

"Thank you doctor Mathew" Felicity said gratefully.

"What the hell was that about Daria?" Halal whisper yelled the minute they were alone.

"What are you talking about?" Daria feigned innocence. "You know what I'm talking about, how dare you talk to Eva that way? If you don't want to be around my cousin then just go but remember that I would never treat any of your family like that" Halal placed her hand at akimbo.

"Halal she was rude to me first and please do not speak to me that way, I'm not a child" Daria said angrily.

Halal scoffed "If you don't want to be spoken to like a child, then don't act like one. Eva is my family and I'm not going to cast her aside right when she needs me"  Halal said.

Daria smiled "You know what, you're right. I don't want to be around your cousin, so I'm going to leave" Daria said picking up her bag.

Halal sighed "Okay, suit yourself" Halal said before walking out of the living room.

Deborah picked up her mobile phone after much contemplation, tears ran down her cheeks as she thought about the action she was about to take. Through blurry eyes, she dialed William's phone.

She tried calling him a few times before it went to voicemail so she opted for a text instead.

'I have participated in a lot of evil, a lot of things I'm not proud of.  I'm extremely sorry that I put you through this William, that I brought you into this mess, William I'm sorry. I hope you forgive me and remember our good times together, I love you.  I also want you to know that I'm paying for my sins and I'm going to keep on paying. I love you' she clicked on the arrow symbol and sent the text to her son.

The next person she thought about was her brother, she had to tell him the truth before turning herself over to the police and exposing Eva. Their game had to end, it was already out of hand.  She was about to dial her brother's number when the doorbell rang. "Yes, who is it?" she croaked.

"It's Venom, Eva asked me to deliver a package to you" Venom called.

"The door isn't locked, come in" Deborah answered. She wondered what package Eva had sent and sighed tiredly.

Venom walked into the house, a sinister look plastered on his face. The minute Deborah saw him, she knew something was wrong.

"What do you want, why did Eva send you?" Deborah asked afraid. Venom smirked "She sent a parting gift" Venom said pulling out a gun.

Deborah gasped knowing her end had come.  "Fine, go ahead and kill me" Deborah said with resignation.

Venom's smirk remained "Eva wants you dead,  I on the other hand have special plans for you" Venom smirked.

Eva stood behind the door eavesdropping, the minute Daria picked up her bag to leave, she smiled and walked back to the guest room.

"Eva!" Halal called moving back to the room. "Yes, sis" Eva answered taking a black purse out of her bag.  "I am going to make us dinner,  what would you like to eat?" Halal asked.

"Just make something light, I'm not really hungry" Eva answered.

"Okay" she heard Halal reply before returning her attention to the purse and it's contents.  She rolled her eyes,  taking out the electronic bugs from her purse. She'd plant it in the living room, Halal and Darrell's bedroom and the car too. That way she'd be able to  listen to all their conversations.

Eva tiptoed out of the guest bedroom and went into Halal's room. She moved around the room looking for a specific spot, before deciding to place the bug close to the bed area.

Walking out of the bedroom, she went into the kitchen. "Halal, I think I dropped my wallet in the car" Eva lied.

Halal dropped the pan and turned to Eva.  "Oh....Let me go get it for you then" Halal offered.

"No, never mind. I'll go get it myself, where are the car keys?" Eva asked.

"It's in the living room, on the book shelf" Halal replied and turned to the refrigerator.  "Thank you sis" Eva smirked. This was going easier than she expected.

When Eva returned minutes later, she found Halal dipping pieces of chicken into the sauce she'd made before putting it into the pan.

"So,  when is Darrell coming back?" Eva asked. "I don't know, I'm thinking of asking him to stay over at my dad's" Halal replied.

"Your dad?" Eva asked curiously.  So the bastard wasn't really a bastard?

"Yes, Jacques. My biological father, I don't know if Patricia told you but Olive adopted me. My biological father came looking for me" Halal said with a small smile.

"Oh, you know Patricia never confided in me. We were always at loggerheads" Eva said.

Halal smiled remembering Patricia fondly,  "Jacques is a good man,  at first I didn't want to accept him but now....I'm glad he's in my life. I'm very lucky to have another father in my life, not everyone gets that lucky" Halal's smile widened.

Eva almost glared at her openly 'Once again she decides to mock me whilst playing the innocent' Eva thought. Halal was rubbing it in her face that she had a father now while she on the other hand was fatherless.

"I'm going to lie down for a while, I'm a little tired" Eva smiled evilly before walking out of the kitchen.

Halal looked at her cousin's retreating form and smiled. It was a good thing that Eva had come today.

"Hey babe" Halal kissed Darrell as she opened the door. "I was beginning to think that you really weren't going to come back" Halal said walking back into the house.

"Actually I came to get a few clothes, I'll be staying at a hotel" Darrell said.

"Daria mentioned Eva was back, I'm going to give you two privacy. When is she leaving ?" Darrell asked.

Halal frowned, "What is it with you and your sister, why can't you two accept Eva is now in my life again and for good?" Halal yelled.

Darrell closed his eyes "Sweet heart, I don't want to talk to about this again. I'm just going to go and give you two some time alone to bond with each other" Darrell said in a cool voice.

Halal sighed "I know Eva was a little mean to you and Daria in the past but please can you two move past that?" Halal asked Darrell.

"We're over that, trust me" Darrell walked past her and into their  bedroom. Halal followed "She's in the guest room, at least go say hello to her before you leave" Halal requested with a pleading note in her voice.

"Okay, no problem" Darrell said moving over to his wardrobe.

"How was work?" Halal asked wrapping her arms around him. "It was fine, how was your day?" Darrell asked.

Halal smiled "Just okay, you should see Eva.  She's glowing now,  I'm glad she's changed. Do you know she's into charity now?" Halal said with excitement.

Darrell rolled his eyes. "Look at you" he turned to her. "You're equally glowing, care  to tell your secret?" Darrell teased.

Halal grinned "I'm just happy I guess, everything is finally falling into place. You...and I" she refrained from saying the baby.

"I love you" she kissed him. "I love you more, now you have to let me go. It's getting late" he said before pulling away.

"I don't want you to go, stay. Why do you have to go? Eva is in the next room, she won't bother us" Halal whined.

Darrell sighed "Fine" he said.

"So, what are you doing tomorrow. It's your birthday, any plans?" Halal asked.

"Well I had plans to go to Calabar but you wouldn't let me go. Let's just go out to dinner tomorrow, just the two of us" Darrell said.

Halal shook her head thinking of the surprise party tomorrow at Jacques' house.  "Okay, no problem. Anything you want, I'll make the arrangements" Halal said not meeting his eyes.

Darrell was surprised, he expected Halal to put up a fight, after all she was organizing a  surprise party.

Maybe he'd been wrong, he smiled.  "Okay, so what did you make for dinner? Another chicken dish perhaps, you eat a lot chicken these days" Darrell said.

Halal smiled shyly and looked away "Actually I prepared some pasta for dinner....."  Halal started. "And chicken nuggets" She finished. "I can't wait for your cravings to be over, I'm getting tired of chicken" Darrell said walking away from her.  'Probably in a couple of months' she said to herself.

Eva smiled and pulled off her earpiece "Poor love birds, too bad your love story won't have a happy ending" Eva said after listening to their conversation in the bedroom.

She still hadn't figured out how to kill Halal. Would she use poison,  bullet,  there were so many beautiful options to explore. If she had the chance, she would try everyone of them. How lovely it would be to torture Halal till her last breath.

She was still deep in thought when a knock came through, "Yes, who is it?" she asked.

"Evangeline, it's Darrell" came the reply.  Eva grinned before getting out of the bed. "Just a minute" she called.

She opened the door and looked up at Darrell, wow! She gaped at him without shame, he looked even better now. "Long time no see" Darrell said smiling.

"Yeah,  it's been a long time. It's great to see you" Eva gushed. "Come in" she offered but he shook his head. "Let's move to the living room" he suggested.

"Of course" Eva followed him to the living room. "Where's Halal?" Eva asked.

"She's in the bedroom, she's taking a shower" Darrell responded.

"You look great, Halal told me you're a gynaecologist. That's good, I always knew you were going to be successful. You've done very well for yourself" Eva complimented.

Darrell met her eyes, he could still see the mischievous glint in her eyes.  It was obvious, Eva had not changed. He knew instantly that she was here for something else. He intended to find out.

Janice headed straight for the nurse in the lobby. "Hello, I'm here to see one of your patients  Victoria. She was transferred here from Lagos" Janice said to the nurse.

The nurse frowned remembering Doctor Matthew's briefing in the morning. "I'm sorry, who are you?" the nurse asked.

"I work for the hospital she was transferred from" Janice lied. "Oh... Would you like to see Doctor Mathew then?" the nurse asked.

"No, I just wanted to see the patient. I don't have much time" Janice responded.

"Alright, ma'am what's your name?" the nurse asked.

Janice hand shook nervously, could this nurse just point her in the right direction. She had to kill Victoria before the bïtch woke up and exposed her!

"I'm Doctor Vivian" Janice said. The nurse smiled "Okay, doctor Vivian. Since you don't want to see Doctor Mathew there's nothing much I can do for you. The patient was moved this morning, are you sure you don't want to see Doctor Matthew? He's in, he's the only one who knows where the patient was moved to" The nurse informed.

Janice's smile faltered "She was moved! We weren't aware, on whose order was she moved?" Janice's voice was shrill now.

The nurse frowned "Madam! Only Doctor Mathew can answer those questions. Now if you insist on not seeing him, there's nothing I can do for you. Good bye" The nurse said reverting her attention to something else.

Janice hissed as she slammed her car door, she was running out of time already. She picked up her phone and dialed her husband.

He answered on the first ring. 'Where are you Janice,  I hope you aren't doing anything crazy again?'  Harvey asked sternly immediately he answered.

"We're in trouble Harvey! Victoria has been moved, where the hell was she moved to and what are we going to do?!" Janice shouted.

'Wait, you went looking for Victoria? Why did you go looking for Victoria, didn't I warn you to stay away? What the hell were you thinking?!' Harvey screamed.

"Look I panicked okay? If Victoria wakes up, she'll expose me.  I had to do something, but apparently it's too late. What are we going to do now?" Janice asked bursting into tears.

Harvey sighed 'Come home immediately, I'll think of something, we'll think of something together' Harvey said.

He had to, his reputation, his marriage, his hospital, everything was at stake.
