Chapter 78: Chapter 78

Their room door opened and Avril stepped out wearing her blue and white dotted pyjamas. She saw Dakar standing there and was surprised.

“Wait, you are here already?” she asked. He exhaled and nodded, then stood upright.

“Are you okay?” he asked and she frowned.

“I should be asking you that question. You are the one who looks like you have seen a ghost,” she replied and he faked a smile.

“What took you so long?” she asked and received the popcorn from his hand.

“I was… I was talking with my wolf,” he answered and gulped down again. Avril eyed him suspiciously, nodded and pushed the door open. They entered and she went over and plopped on the bed.

“We should watch a romantic movie together, Dakar,” she said and beckoned to the television. Dakar stood still by the door and stared at her. His wolf’s words that he should stop smoking his cigar rang in his head. That meant separation from Avril again and pain… indescribable pain. He couldn’t let that happen. He sighed and shut the door.

“I don’t like romance movies. They are too predictable,” he said and strolled to the bed.

“Why do you say so? And get me the remote, please.”

“They are predictable because we know it’s a story where two damned people would fall in love and want to be together. So, the story has two ways to end. Either they be together or they don’t.”

“What do you think would be the end of our story then?”

Dakar grabbed the remote from the TV and turned it on. He stood in front of it and stared blankly at the screen for a minute.

“We are going to have a happy ending,” he answered, more to himself than to her. He turned around to look at her.

“Has our story been so predictable so far? Well, you don’t even remember most of the story but… at least, who would predict that a human captured just like every other human in your kingdom would become the very first human royal concubine?”

Dakar chuckled though he didn’t like the sound of that word ‘captured’, like she was a slave..

“Or that she would soon become his…,” he trailed off.

“Become his what?”

“You fill in the missing words. Make yourself become his ‘anything’ you want to be.”

Avril smiled and shifted on the bed then gently tapped on the space beside her.

“Sit here, Prince Dakar. Let’s watch a nice romance movie while we eat and drink, and forget we have troubles in this world.”

“Sounds like a nice idea.”

They smiled at each other and sat side by side, then Dakar gave her the remote and a can of soda.

King Kastor stood at the great balcony of his Palace and looked over the kingdom, as far as he could see and he saw nothing out of the ordinary. The citizens of Remus were waking up, going about their morning duties and settling down for their peaceful breakfast. He had also sent soldiers to investigate if there was any unusual gathering of the people. His heart was thumping loudly and he hoped that wherever he heard his son took his concubine to, they would stay there the whole day. He had been so glad that Dakar took her away the previous night. Could it be that he had also heard about the revolt?

King Kastor returned inside and went straight to the throne. He sat down and stared into space for long minutes, thinking about what LeBlanc had said. Could it be true that that Fiorella was a spy of the vampires for real? For decades, they had been at war with the Virgo Vampires and it was Dakar who was the only reason they won. But while he was still reasoning, slowly the noise of a protest began to approach the Palace. He jerked up and sprang through the throne room to the balcony. Right over the Palace gates were a troop of people forming and handing one another protest cards to lift up. They began to shout as they gathered more and a lot of them angrily lifted up the cards in the air.

“Lock the gates firmly! Do not allow anyone of them into this Palace!” the king ordered with a loud voice. The soldiers hurriedly locked up the gates and about twenty soldiers came to the back of it and stood guard. King Kastor began to palpitate and sweat. He hurried downstairs and placed more orders to the Beta who had run out of his floor after hearing the commotion. A lot of soldiers were mobilized to the front and they just stood guard for a few minutes, checking if it was a peaceful protest or not. Fortunately, there were very peaceful and appeared to just be chanting out their request with vigour.

“Get rid of the human! Get rid of the human! Get rid of the human!” they continuously chanted.

They also held cards that said things like ‘No Human Luna, Say No To Humans In The Palace, She’s A Witch, and Banish The Spy.’

“What is this? Why are the people suddenly revolting about her? Who even knows anything about her?” the Beta panicked as they stood overhead, watching the people. “I received news last night of a revolt from one of our noblemen. I had hoped it would not come to happen,” the King stated. Federico’s eyebrows furrowed as he heard ‘nobleman’.

“Why did you not let me know, Alpha? News of a revolt is very important and serious news,” he replied the King.

“I’m aware of what’s going on in your family, Federico. You and your brother have never been on the same side. Now that you have taken his daughter into your custody without his consent, he would not be giving you an easy time.”

Beta Federico sighed and looked ahead. He had something in his mind, but if he said so the King would surely think it was because he was not at peace with his brother. If not, he strongly suspected that his brother, Adolphus had something to do with the revolt. He knew how much he hated the human girl. And as far as he knew his brother, he would never stop until that girl was out of the picture.

“But Alpha, don’t you think this revolt is strange? Why did it come all of a sudden? We usually hear rumours of one before it happens,” Federico spoke up.

“It is. I suspect that someone is behind this particular one. It is so coordinated and out of the blue as if they have a commander. And that commander seems to be someone with a bit of power over the people to be able to stir them up so suddenly,” the King answered.

“And who do you think should be the one who stirs up a revolt against a mere human all of a sudden?”

The Alpha glanced sideways at his Beta.

“Someone who has something to lose if she remains where she is,” he answered thoughtfully.

There were two reasons for people to act rashly in his kingdom. Either it was because they had to protect what was theirs and what they claimed was theirs, or they wanted to take what was not theirs with force like the wolves they were.

So, if the masses wanted to protect what was theirs, which could be the Luna position reserved for a pure blooded wolf, then everyone would notice the change in their behaviours. News would start going around about it and eventually a revolt would come up. Everyone would be expecting it. But for this particular revolt to jump out of the blues, someone who was directly affected by her presence in the pack was the one who stirred it up.

“Are you saying somebody directly wants her out of the picture?”

“Yes. That is exactly what I am saying, Your Majesty.”

“Do you know all fingers are pointing to your niece? She wanted her dead in the first place because she hated her for turning the Prince’s eyes from her.”

“Alpha, I was able to prove that she has been under influence ever since. She would never try to kill that human knowing the rules and the penalty. The person who has charmed her… don’t you want to know?”

“You think this person is also responsible for this revolt, don’t you?”

“I do not think. I know this person is responsible. But what I can’t prove is who this person is. I have no proof.” Federico then shook his head sadly as he looked over at the front of the gates, where the commotion seemed to be getting even louder.
