Chapter 71: Chapter 71
/Mike’s pov/
“Seriously? Is it a 100 percent chance that I won't be able to stay with her through out the night? I ask that you not be concerned about my well-being if you are. I'm not going to be a source of problem." No worries if I fall asleep in the chair; you won't even notice, I promise "I argued, employing the same demeanor that had worked so well on Amber earlier in the day.
At the same time, she grumbled and rolled her eyes at the situation. “Fine. If they inquire as to how you got in, you'll tell them you slipped in. Understand?” her smile accompanied by a shaky-headed shake of her head
With a grin on my face, I said hello. “Thanks.” Wow, the expression worked on others as well as it did on Amber.
In his parting remarks, Jake offered to come first thing in the morning and bring my angel and me a change of clothes, which we accepted. Immediately following his departure from the room, she shifted over on the bed, wincing slightly but without signaling that she was in pain at the time.
When I considered the possibility of rolling on her or anything, I shuddered a little. "I'll sleep on the chair, Angel," I said, a grimace on my face at the thought of rolling her over on my stomach.
"Are you saying you don’t want me anymore, Mike?" As she said, her voice cracked slightly.
To my dismay, I can't seem to resist this girl's charms any longer. Gritting my teeth, I climbed into bed next to her, kicking off my sneakers in the process. She wept herself to sleep as she nestled up to my chest and I held her.
When someone shook my arm at an unusually early hour in the morning, I leaped out of bed in surprise. My attention was drawn to the fact that there were two men standing there, both looking at me with serious expressions on their faces, when I raised my eyes. What exactly is going on in this situation? OH MY GOD, I'm going to jail for sleeping in this place!!
"Are you Mike Liam?" one of them inquired.
I sat up and raised my head in a modest manner. "Yeah," I said quietly, hoping to avoid waking Amber up with my response. When she noticed the two males standing nearby, she shivered and leapt up and down in surprise. It was already past the point of no return.
The person introduces himself by saying, "My name is Mike Liam." If you are found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm, I will hold you until further notice. If anything is recorded, you are under no obligation to say anything, but anything you say could be used against you in court if it is later discovered. If you like, you may retain the services of legal representation. "In the event that you are unable to pay for an attorney, one will be appointed to you," he said, seizing my arm.
GBH? What's up with the as**ole claiming you're guilty of something?
/Amber’s pov/
I sat up as swiftly as I possibly could. "What in the world is going on?" I wondered aloud.
Mike spoke to me by placing his hand on my shoulder and speaking to me. "Don't get up," he replied emphatically and with conviction. That he was still concerned about me even as the dumb lad was being arrested is beyond absurd.
"What a terrible blunder!"
Since he did nothing wrong, you are not allowed to arrest him!" As I turned to look at the two men who were standing there watching Mike put on his shoes, I let out a frustrated scream. What on earth is he doing remaining so calm in the face of such adversity? Do you think he was planning on anything like this happening to him?
In the midst of my response, the man informed me that a serious complaint had been lodged against me, and that "we needed to check into that."
"Everything is in working order, Angel," says mind
The words "Don't be concerned" from Mike calmed me. Fine? Which way do you lean on this issue? He turned his attention away from himself and toward the guy who was grabbing his arm. "Do you mind if I kiss goodbye to my girlfriend?" He inquire.
"She's just gone through a miscarriage," he clarified. The man's look softened a little, and his grip on his arm became a little looser. As he knelt down to kiss me, Mike tenderly kissed the inside of my lips. "Angel, I'm completely and utterly in love with you." Please do not become enraged at my expense. With a gentle stroking motion of his palm across my face, he instructed me to take a nap.
I became increasingly concerned as he began to back away. I couldn't bear the thought of leaving him behind. He was just what I was looking for. I wrapped my arms around his neck and wouldn't let go until he conceded. "Could you perhaps refrain from taking him away from us?"
Rather, it was my responsibility; in fact, I was solely accountable for everything that had happened. Having merely stayed at his house would have been preferable in the situation I found myself in. "Could you please explain why I shouldn't have gone back to my house?" With my hands curled into the back of Mike's hair, I sobbed on his shoulder as I begged him to let me in.
Afterwards, the same gentleman stated, "Ma'am, you must let go immediately." I tightened my grip on Mike, which almost surely hurt him, but he remained deafeningly silent. "Ma'am!" shouted the mysterious stranger.
The movement of Mike's hands up my arms made my grip on his hair loosen, and I was able to let go. I released him from my grip on him, and he immediately turned his head to face me. He seemed tight and frightened, and I could tell just by looking at him that. 'I love you,' he muttered as he kissed me on the lips for the second time in a row.
The words "I love you, too," I said gently, reluctant to trust my own voice when it came time to speak.
When Mike rose to his feet, the unknown assailant seized his hands behind his back and placed handcuffs around his wrists. Although my heart was breaking up all over again, Mike's eyes never left mine for a second. The loss of a kid, I believed, could be the most terrible experience a person could ever have. I was completely and utterly wrong.
Standing there watching as they escorted him out of the room, leaving me alone, I was taken aback. I was in a foul mood at the time. Although it wasn't his fault, I couldn't let them get away with it without saying something. Mike might also file charges against my father, and if it was discovered that my father had struck me first, they would exonerate Mike on the grounds that he was defending my interests.
But, surely, they wouldn't allow him get away with something like that. It's one thing if someone defends me; however, if he loses his mind, no one will believe that he was acting in self-defense at all.
I hid my face behind my hands, trying to come up with something creative to think of. It was my father who had brought the charges against Mike; even if I brought charges against my father, Mike's charges would still stand.
The fact that he did so despite being provoked meant that he would still be charged with GBH, regardless of whether he acted in self-defense. I couldn't accept the possibility that he would get away with it. What happens if he isn't there to answer the question? I'm worried about what will happen if he is found guilty and I am unable to track him down.
It was the only thing on my mind to persuade my father to retract the charges against me that I had. I got out my phone and dialed Jake's phone number from the other end. He answered the phone when it rang for the second time. "Jake, Mike has been captured," I told him simply and emphatically.
"What the hell is going on?" says Jake. My hand flinched away from the phone as he asked the question. "There's no way!" he cried out angrily.
“Jake I have an appointment this afternoon, so could you please bring me some ready-to-wear clothes?" I asked, attempting to maintain my composure.
