Chapter 8: Chapter 8

BELLA

When I walked into the classroom with one of the lecturers who had offered to show me to the class I will be taking, I felt a bit awkward. Especially when the students stared at me like they've seen a ghost. I rolled my eyes. I scanned through the room. There were about thirty students. The lecturer took the time to introduced me to the students. I stared at their faces and reactions when he called me their new lecturer. I could hear some groaned. Some couldn't hide their surprise while others tried to hide theirs as much as they can. This wasn't the first time I had received such treatment. If I am correct, most of them would be my age mate or maybe a year or two older than I am. "Are you being serious, Mr. Lincoln" a guy from the back seat yelled.

"She too young" another answered

"And hot too" a guy added

I groaned. The guys here are all flirt. Some were winking at me. I hissed. Do they flirt with their lecturers in the open?. I decided to ignore them. I noticed two guys whispering to each other. I stared at them wondering what they were up to. One of them raised his head. His face looked so familiar. I batted my lashes. He is the guy, I meet at the gym. The same I bumped into some days ago. He stared at me, his eyes boring into mine. My heart did its usual happy snoopy dance and groaned. He broke eye contact when his seatmate touched him. His seatmate stared at me and then smile. I had to smile back. He looks nice, unlike his friend who is so rude. He got hit by the rude guy and he whined. I smiled. Those two seem to be friends. "I will be leaving you all to get acquainted with yourselves" Mr. Lincoln announced

The student groaned. I watched Mr. Lincoln leave. Silence returned to the class. I adjusted myself. "Good morning, class" I greeted. They stared at me and I sighed. "Never mind" I mumbled. I arranged my books and began to teach.

The class ended and I closed my book. "I will see you in the next class"

Some nodded, while others ignored me. I walked out to returned to my office. I decided to have a conference call with my friends. I've not been able to call them since I came to the island. I called Katie first and after chatting with her for some minutes, I placed her on hold and called Diana. "You had no plan to call me right?" Her annoying voice came up.

Katie chuckled. "Come on, chill. She has her reasons for not calling. You should hear her out first before you conclude"

"I know you will always support her. Hasn't she been calling you?"

I rolled my eyes. "I did not call her ok?"

"You..."

I groaned. "That's enough. Do you want to hear what I have to say or I should cut the call?"

"Whatever" Diana mumbled and I laughed

"I will love to hear every bit of what you have to say," Katie said

I smiled. I trust Katie. She is understandable, unlike Diana who likes to make a fuss out of nothing. "Are you talking or not?" Diana asked

I rolled my eyes. "I...". The knock on the door made me stopped talking. I wasn't expecting anybody so I wondered who could be knocking.

"You should answer whosoever is knocking. It's affecting my eardrum" Diana complained

I hissed. How can the knocking that isn't close to her, affect her eardrum?. I rolled my eyes and pulled the phone away from my ear.

"Who is there?" I asked

"Lucy"

I groaned. "You know what girls, I will call you when I get home. Someone is here to see me"

"Whatever" Diana mumbled and ended the call.

"Don't mind Dia, she is not in a good mood" Katie said

I wanted to ask what was wrong with Dia, but I decided against it. I didn't want to keep Lucy waiting outside. I chuckled. "I will call you when I get back"

"Ok dear," the call ended and dropped the phone on the table.

"Sorry, Lucy, you can come in". The door opened and she walked in smiling. "Sorry, I kept you waiting. I was on call"

She smiled. "I understand"

I adjusted slightly on my seat. "You should sit down". She nodded and sat down. I was curious to know why she came, so I asked her. "To what do I own this visit?"

She smiled. "Just want to know how your first day here is going"

I muttered and inaudible oh. "It's going well. Just that the students are not used to me yet"

She smiled. "It will take time. But they will surely get used to you"

I nodded. She is right. The movement of my chair, followed by one or two silence made the room awkward. I hated silence but did not know what to say. She also seems not to know what else to say, cause she kept staring at the ceiling. I decided to say something. But what will I say?. I wasn't good at starting a conversation or ending it. Katie and Diana had taught me how to. But with Lucy, I am short of words. I decided to say the first thing that came to my mind "You don't have any class for today!"

She chuckled. 'No, do you?"

I rolled my eyes. I was expecting she would say yes so she could leave. I picked up my timetable even when I knew I won't be having any more class for today. I sighed. "I don't think so"

She nodded and silence returned. I wished she could just leave and not make the atmosphere so awkward. She suddenly stood up and I batter my lashes "I need to go"

I wanted to jump up and say yes but I controlled myself. "Do you have something to do?"

She nodded. "Yes. I just remembered I have an appointment with a student". I muttered an oh even when I do not understand the kind of appointment she was talking about and doesn't what to ask her. She must have realized I didn't get what she said well, so she answered, "I'm a guardian and counselor"

I mentally slapped myself. "I should leave. See you in the room"

I nodded. "See you too"

When I got home, I mean the staff apartment I share with Lucy. I just love to call everywhere I stay home. Lucy wasn't in when I entered. I went straight to the bathroom to take a shower and later got dressed in a simple red gown. I sat down on the bed and placed a conference call to my friends. We talked for a while and I had to end the call when my stomach began to make a sound. I stood up from the bed and headed for the cafeteria.
