Chapter 69: Chapter 69
Sandy’s POV
When I went to look for Ora, the guard told me that she was summoned by The Lycan King. A sense of panic developed in the pit of my stomach and I rushed to the Lycan Palace as soon as possible. Driving at a speed over 120 kmph, I covered the distance of about an hour in under thirty minutes.
“I am here to pick, Miss Ora,” I said in a confident voice hoping that they would let me through. The guard seemed unrelenting but another guard walked up to him and whispered something in his ears. Moments later, I was allowed to enter but they wouldn’t let me go any further than the main hall.
“Our King is busy discussing something very important with Miss Ora. He has instructed us that he is not to be disturbed. Once the meeting is over, we will let you in,” the guard snapped in a slightly annoyed voice as I prodded him for the umpteenth time.
This was when I caught a glimpse of Ora walking through the corridor. With a swift move, I brushed past the guard and took off; running as fast as possible after them. I missed a turn and ended up getting lost. By the time, I found her again, she was stepping into the King’s bedroom.
I ran after her but the door slammed on my face. The guards grabbed my arms and dragged me away, “The King has commanded to not disturb him no matter what happens. I am afraid, we can let you go inside, Master Sandy.”
I had no choice but to wait for her outside. The scene where King Augustine grabbed Ora’s hand and led her inside kept playing in my head like a loop. A strong wave of jealousy washed over me and it kept intensifying with every passing moment. By the time, Ora came out, I was so blinded with jealously that I lost control over my temper. I grabbed her arms and shook her up; my eyes glowering with anger and jealousy, “What in the world do you think you were doing in the King’s bedroom?”
“I was making out with him. What does it have to do with you?” Her nonchalant words dripped in my ears like acid, scorching me right upto my core. The color drained from my face and I staggered. What she said was true. I had no right to question her.
Before I could explain anything, she walked away with the woman who had come to call me. With a heavy heart and weighed down steps, I left for the packhouse. I have never felt more defeated in my life.
By the time, I finally reached home, it was almost sunrise. Despite the early hours, there seemed to be a lot of commotion in the packhouse. I stopped a guard and asked him what the matter was.
“Alpha Ryanwood arrived an hour ago with the news that Master Evaan is missing. Alpha Kevin is mobilizing forces to go and look for him.”
I ran my fingers through my hair. I had to stop them from discovering the truth at least for a few more days. We could tell them the truth once Ora had accepted my proposal and the unification ceremony was performed. That way, I could keep her safe even if all the family members went against her.
With this thought in mind, I trotted inside. Emilia was completely shattered by the news and was crying non stop. Kiara was with her trying hard to console her. Kevin was busy formulating a fail proof strategy to save Evaan.
My quest for Nivaan led me to the backyard where Ora was talking to him, “I should be narrating the entire story in front of everyone but… I don’t think I have the guts to do so…”
My heart skipped a beat when I realised what she was going to do. I grabbed her hand and pulled her away, “What do you think you are doing?”
“I was just going to tell him the truth.”
“You can’t possibly do that. This isn’t the right time, Ora,” I urged with desperation. Why did Ora have to make everything more complicated?
She shrugged off my hands, “I don’t care if it is the right time, Sandy. I can’t just stand by and watch them searching for Evaan like crazy when I know that Evaan is gone….” She gulped as tears rolled down her cheeks, “Nivaan has the right to know the truth.”
“What did you just say? Evaan is dead…. I don’t know why you are lying to me Ora but I will never believe that…. I have spent like three days with my son. The moon Goddess can’t be so cruel….” Nivan’s voice choked and he whimpered.
Ora placed her hand on his shoulders, tears still streaking her cheeks, “I wish that I was lying Nivaan, I really do…. But, the truth is that Evaan gracefully sacrificed his life to save me from Valence.”
Nivaan’s face turned pallid as she proceeded to tell him everything in detail. He stood there like a statue, his expression blank. It was difficult to say whether he was still listening or not.
A silver glint to Ora’s left caught my eye. Then everything happened so fast that it was over before my brain could comprehend what was happening.
Emilia lunged at Ora with a mystical dagger. There was a blinding flash of green light and the next moment, Emilia was lying on the ground.
Ora’s eyes were wide open and her hands were covering her mouth. She kept repeating like a parrot, “I didn’t mean to hurt her, Nivaan. I swear it was a reflex. I sensed an attack and ended up using magic without realising who the person was. I swear I didn’t mean to hurt her.”
Nivaan gathered Emilia in his arms and rushed inside calling for healer along the way. I took a step towards Ora as I reassured her, “I know you didn’t mean to harm her. It all happened so fast that you didn’t get a chance to think.”
I made a move to hug her but she disappeared before I could hold her; like a wisp of smoke. This was the second time she had ditched me within a day.
