Chapter 63: Chapter 63

Sandy’s POV

Seeing Ora break down, all the emotions that had been repressed over the days resurfaced. I found myself crying and sobbing like a baby.

The thought that we were still in the Halterland and the children’s life could be still at risk was what pulled me back to my senses, “Ora…”

She sniffled, her head still buried in my chest. I didn’t feel like it but I drew a bit further and forced her to look at me, “What is going to happen to those children?”

This snapped her out of her grief. She ran her fingers through her hair, “If the other witches figure out that Valence is dead, they won’t be pleased. Many of the witches have been her apprentices and several others are her staunch followers. It is better if we get out of here as soon as possible.”

“F***!” Ora exclaimed, jumping to her feet suddenly. “We have to get out of here now….” She rushed to wake up the children quickly. “I can sense the change in the energy field. They will be here any moment.”

“They?”

“The Grand Magus’s personal coven.”

We woke all the children quickly and gathered them together. Ora instructed the children to draw closer and hold each other. Right at that moment, the door swung open. My heart sank and my body went numb.

Ora grabbed my hand and snapped, “Visualize your packhouse, quick.”

I was pretty much flustered. So, when Ora asked me to picture the packhouse, the first image that popped into my mind was that of the main hall where Kevin usually met up with others.

There was a blinding flash of light and we all teleported right into the hall. The perfect thing to do if you were trying to keep your actions hidden. What was more, Alpha Kevin was in a meeting with alphas of two other prominent packs; not to mention the guards and servants present there.

A veil of stunned, oppressive silence reigned over the room for a few long moments. Alpha Kevin was the first to snap out of it. He came rushing towards us; eyes wide and his features marred with incredulity, “What in the freaking hell is going on here, Sandy?” His gaze swept over the children and finally landed on Ora, “You have even brought a….”

He stopped himself before he said the witch aloud. Turning towards the others, he stated, “Seems like there is an emergency, Alpha Rio, Alpha Montel. We will have to postpone the meeting.”

They both nodded in understanding and started walking out of the room. But, Alpha Montel stopped halfway through. He turned around; his piercing glare landing on Ora, “I hope you will take the right decision, Alpha Kevin. If not…..” He let his words linger and stormed out of the hall. Alpha Montel’s son was killed by a witch as such he held a special grudge towards them.

Once everyone had left, Kevin turned his attention to me; his gaze full of accusation. I could figure out what he was thinking just by his glare. I had barely managed to wipe out the accusations of liaising with the witches with great difficulty and here I was; appearing with a witch in a room full of werewolves. He wouldn’t be able to defend me even if he wanted to.

“I am sorry, Kevin. I had no other choice….” I had just started explaining when I heard the sound of some liquid spluttering. Spinning around I found Ora staggering with her hands firmly clenching her stomach; splatters of blood stained her clothes.

“Holy Shit!” I rushed to support her. “What happened to you?”

She gasped, “I… I think I used….”

“Don’t talk… Your condition seems very bad, “ I stuttered as I gathered her in my arms and rushed to my bedroom. Walking past a guard, I commanded, “Go get a healer quickly.”

I laid Ora carefully on the bed and got a wet piece of cloth. Sitting by her side, I started wiping her mouth carefully.

Moments later, Kevin rushed inside, “What do you think you are doing, Sandy?”

“Ora… she probably expended too much magic teleporting all of us here. She needs to be treated quickly…”

Kevin grabbed my hand and dragged me away from Ora. Shaking me up, he tried to reason, “Can’t you hear what you are saying? You are talking about treating A WITCH.”

“I… I am not talking about treating any witch, brother. I am talking about saving Ora. She is in this condition because of us….”

The door swung open and the guard stepped inside with the healer. She walked in with hurried steps and took Ora’s wrist; her face turning slightly pale as she took the reading.

“Do you know what the punishment for liaising with a witch is Athena?”

The healer’s eyes snapped towards Kevin. Conflicting emotions flashed through her features but then her face turned stoic, “I know only one thing, Alpha Kevin. I am a healer and it is my duty to treat patients.”

I let out a sigh of relief and drew closer to them, “How is she? I hope nothing serious.”

“I am not sure Master Sandy. Given that she is a witch and not a werewolf, I will have to conduct elaborate tests before giving you a diagnosis.”

“Athena! You will leave this room at once. If you don’t I will punish you for treason.”

My heart almost stopped beating when I heard those harsh words. How could he be so cold-hearted? I looked at him with pleading eyes but he looked at me with those cold, bottomless eyes. He had made up his mind and wasn’t probably going to change his mind no matter what I said.

Just when I thought everything was lost, Kiara walked inside like a beacon of hope. She placed her hand on his shoulder and said in a pointed voice, “Don’t you think you are being unreasonable, Kevin?”

He shrugged, “She is a witch….”

“Would you have refused her medical if she was Valence?”

“Valence is different. She is not any witch. She helped us save so many lives.” His voice turned up a notch as he continued, “How can you compare her to this woman lying on the bed?”

I snorted as I heard Kevin praise Valence. How could he compare that bitch to Ora? I was tempted to tell him everything but I had a feeling that it wouldn’t bode well for Ora. Getting her treated was my priority.

Kevin stepped closer and caressed Ora’s head, “This woman saved your brother’s life and the life of seven werewolf children despite being a witch….”

“We don’t know that. For all I know, she could have been trying to kill them…”

Kiara rolled her eyes, “That must be the reason, she teleported them all to your packhouse. What could be a better way to kill werewolves, right? Take them to their den alone and kill them in front of several Alphas.”

Kiara’s logic was impeccable. Kevin couldn’t say anything. His gaze lingered on Kiara for a moment before he stormed out of the room; snapping along the way, “Do whatever you want…. Just don’t blame me later…”

A week later…

Sandy’s POV

“What is that witch still doing in my house, Sandy?” Kevin snapped in an agitated voice as he approached me with brisk steps.

“She has still not regained her consciousness. What else am I supposed to do?” I snapped right back. I was annoyed by his constant nagging. He probably expected me to hand her over to the Lycan King or leave her in the premises of the Halterland at least. I wasn’t going to do that; not until Ora had fully recovered.

“Why don’t you understand, Sandy? Alpha Montel sent me an ultimatum today. If we don’t hand her over to the Lycan king ourselves; he will tell the Lycan King about it and we all will be charged with treason.” There was a tinge of helplessness in his voice, “Is this what you want? To destroy us all? Kiara, me, our son Nivaan?”

“Kevin, don’t do this to him. Don’t try to emotionally black mail him into doing what YOU want.” Kiara said as she grabbed his hand and gave him a warning glare.

“You think I am your enemy, right?” He snapped, shaking his head. “Have you ever thought what will happen to Junior Nivaan when we all are banished or executed for treason? Will he be able to live with the tag of a traitor’s son all his life?” He shrugged off her hand and rasped, “You have always been like that, Kiara…. You would rather save a stranger than think about your son.” His voice turned hoarse, “I should leave before I say something I regret.” His pirecing glance landed on me for a brief moment before he walked away.

My heart went numb after hearing this. I never realized how selfish I was being. It was one thing to risk my own life; I couldn’t endanger all their lives. I let out a long, deep sigh, “Kevin is right, Kiara. I shouldn’t have been so reckless. I will go and talk to Lycan King myself. I won’t let any of you bear the repercussions of my actions.”

Kiara took my hand in hers and looked into my eyes, “You don’t have to Sandy… I am sure we can come up with a better plan.”

“It’s okay, Kiara. I am really grateful for your support but I won’t let any of you get implicated because of my actions,” I patted her hand gently and left for the Palace. I didn’t know if my plan would work but I had to try….
