Chapter 33: Chapter 33
Emilia’s POV
When you are happy and contented, time seems to sprout wings. It flies at the speed of light, slipping through your fingers like a handful of sand. The tighter you hold, the quicker it slips through the gaps of your fingers.
The last five months of my pregnancy passed in a similar fashion. I was pampered and spoiled by both Nivaan and Kiara. They didn’t let me do anything. Kiara cooked my favorite dishes and Nivaan fed me with his own hands.
Anything I said was truth and anything I demanded became the law. I felt so cherished and loved that a strange fear formed in the pit of my stomach. What if this wasn’t meant to last long? What if everything was going to get shattered again?
My worry wasn’t pointless. Valence never came to meet us again. She just disappeared without a trace. Nivaan didn’t share my worry. He always shrugged it off saying that Valence was a good person and understood him well. That is the reason she didn’t bother us again.
“Emy! Did you take your medicine?” Nivaan’s voice sounded in the room as the door creaked open. His expression hardened when he saw the glass lying on the table. “Emy? Why haven’t you finished the concoction yet?”
I stuck my lip and fluttered my eyelashes, “It is very bitter.”
Nivaan’s eyebrows knit together. He looked so distressed that it took every ounce of willpower to keep myself from laughing. He picked up the glass and approached me slowly. It was evident from his expression that he was thinking of a way to convince me.
He sat beside me and adjusted the comforter over me, “You remember what the healer said…” Placing a soft kiss on my swollen belly, he continued, “The last month is very crucial. If you are not healthy, there could be complications in delivery.”
I wanted to throw a bit more tantrum but when Nivaan handed me the glass, I couldn’t refuse. He was so dedicated to taking care of me that my heart melted whenever he was around. I barely managed to put up any resistance.
I placed the glass close to my lips and drank it up in a single draught. I shifted slightly as a mild wave of pain hit my back. Nivaan leaned forward and added an extra pillow, “You must use more of these… Hard surfaces can strain your back.”
My lips lifted into a wide smile. He even noticed that small movement of mine. He lowered his face and placed a soft kiss on my lips. “To remove the bitterness…”
Tears welled in my eyes but they were happy ones. I laced my fingers through his hair and deepened the kiss. Our tongues entwined and I wiggled to move closer but Nivaan pulled away. I narrowed my eyes and looked away, “You only care about your baby.”
He chuckled softly. “I only care about MY baby.” Even as he said these words, he ruffled my hair gently. Blood rushed to my face under his loving gaze. It had already been five months but I hadn’t gotten used to this kind of intimacy at all. I blushed every single time.
There was a sound of someone clearing their throat from the entrance. My smile widened when I saw that it was Kiara. She produced a beautiful white dress from her back and held it up, “What do you think?”
“This is so gorgeous! It looks like stars have been wrapped in clouds of snow,” I said in an excited voice as I took in the pretty brocade work.
“I knew you would love it,” She turned to Nivaan and raised her eyebrow, “What do you think?”
“I think the material seems a bit harsh… Can’t you choose a dress with softer material?”
Kiara rolled her eyes so hard that I had to laugh, “If anyone hears you they will think Emilia is the only one who has ever given birth to a baby.”
Nivaan took my hand and placed it on his chest, “She is the only one for me…”
“Arrghh! You,” Kiara snapped as she dragged him out of the bed, “You go and meet the chef.”
“But, I have already spoken to him a million times…” Nivaan looked at me with pleading eyes. He didn’t want to leave but even I was helpless in front of Luna Kiara.
“Just go and do whatever,” she snapped and closed the door on his face.
Kiara became serious after Nivaan left, “Do you really like this dress?”
The white dress was beautiful but it was a bit old-fashioned. If it was the old me, I would have thrown a riot about it. But with experience, I have come to realize that it is the feelings that count. Why would I hurt Kiara over some trivial materialistic stuff?
I smiled at her and assured her, “I seriously love this dress…” Holding her hand I added, “I never got around to thank you, did I?”
Kiara’s expression turned angry and she snapped, “Don’t you dare thank me again! Did you forget our deal?”
I threw up my hands in defeat, “No sorry, no thank you… We are sisters after all.”
“Yep! Keep that in mind. If you repeat this mistake again, I will make you pay.”
I giggled at her exaggerated expression. Kiara wasn’t my sister by blood but she had supported me more than a sister. I could pull through everything only because of her.
“We have decided to hold the unification ceremony two months after Evaan is born….”
“Don’t you think that is too early?” I asked nervously. Though Nivaan and I were living together as a couple, the thought of a unification ceremony gave me jitters.
“I think that is already too late, Emy. I won’t push the date any further!” Her voice was firm and resolute. I had no choice but to accept my fate.
“I wanted to ask you something important, Emilia…”
“Yes?”
“Do you want to invite your father to this ceremony?”
My mind blanked out at the mention of my father. Did I have it in me to face him?
