Chapter 13: Chapter 13
Third POV
“Alpha Nivaan?” Marx’s voice sounded as he entered the dark room. He instinctively flicked on the switch. A soft white glow spread over the room illuminating the chaotic mess.
A gasp escaped Marx’s lips as his eyes swept over the room. The furniture was lying helter-skelter; the shattered remains of a vase were scattered on the floor; the food on the table was untouched and crunched glass had a few blotches of blood on them. What exactly happened here?
A large dent on the wall caught his attention. He drew closer and ran his fingers along the edge of the dent. It looked like someone had punched the wall repeatedly. His heart skipped a beat when he noticed more blood staining the wall.
He rubbed some of the red liquid close to his nose. His heart sank as the scent confirmed his suspicion. What had upset Alpha Nivaan so much?
Suddenly, the door of the bedroom slammed open making him jump. He spun around quickly to find Alpha Nivaan standing leaning against the doorway. His eyes were lidded; his face pale. There were some splatters of blood on his white shirt as well.
“Marx?” Nivaan slurred as he walked out.” He had a goblet of drink in his hand and his steps were unstable.
Marx rushed to his side and supported his swaying body. He used his free hand to straighten the chair and made him sit. His breath hitched slightly as he took in his condition. His expression turned anxious and he asked, “Are you okay, Alpha?”
Nivaan threw his hands up in the air and slurred, “Of course I am okay! I am happy…. Look….” He waved to his face, “Do I look like I have committed the greatest crime in my life?”
“Alpha Please….” Marx choked out. He couldn’t bear to see him like this. Alpha Nivaan had gone through so much but he had never seen him break down like this. He was the epitome of strength, the reincarnation of resilience. What could have happened to put him in such a state?
Ignoring the consequences of his actions, he trotted to the bathroom and filled a bucket with water. He rushed outside and Splash! Threw the water on Nivaan with as much force as possible.
Nivaan sucked in his breath as he was jolted back to his senses. “F***! Who the hell is that?” he roared as he jumped to his feet and fumbled in the air.
Marx lowered his eyes and said in a feeble voice, “It's me, Alpha…. I am sorry about that….” He kneeled in front of him and hung his head, “You can punish me whatever way you want.”
Nivaan’s expression turned stoic and he said in a cold voice, “Never come here again.”
Marx was startled when he heard those words. He licked his lips nervously and he spoke, “I can’t do that. Punch me, whip me, beat me, or keep me locked up if you want but please don’t say that…. “
“Stop it, Marx, and state the purpose of your visit,” Nivaan cut him off harshly. He wasn’t in a mood to listen to his rants or advice.
A deep sigh escaped Marx’s lips and he got to his feet. “Alpha Jester’s wife has been abducted.”
“Alpha Jester from Canterstead?”
“Yes, Alpha…. I don’t know if we can co-relate this with other kidnappings, The other five were babies from different packs.” Marx rubbed his chin thoughtfully, “The other kidnappings don’t add up too. The babies are all born on different dates. Maybe we are going in the wrong direction….”
“Keep Looking Marx…. I have a feeling that they are all related in some way or another. It's just a gut feeling but it is worth investigating,” Alpha Nivaan said as he walked to the wardrobe and took out a towel.
He was wiping his head, then he suddenly stopped and spun around, “Is there any chance SMrs. Jester was pregnant?”
Marx’s lips pressed into a thin line. “I don’t think so. Mr. Jester would have mentioned it otherwise. Still, I will investigate it further.”
“Hmm…. Is that all?” Nivaan asked tapping his foot a bit impatiently. He was feeling restless to get Marx out of his room.
“Yes Alpha, I will reach out once I have figured out anything else,” he stated and walked away but his steps faltered near the door and he spun around, “Umm… Luna Kiara told me to keep this a secret but I thought I should inform you.”
Nivaan’s ears perked up and his posture stiffened the moment he heard Kiara’s name.
“A pregnant woman was attacked by four men within the territory of The Mystical Pack. Kiara went to confront them on her own and…..” Marx had barely spoken those words when Nivaan bolted out of the house. He shifted into his wolf form and bounded towards the forest.
The soft grass crunched under his paws as he ran faster and faster. He should have sent some of his men to keep a watch on Kiara. Why did that stupid girl have to go and confront those abductors on her own? Couldn’t she have waited for her men to arrive?
After running for a few miles, he picked up Kiara’s scent. A soft growl escaped his lips as his pace quickened. He would rip Kevin’s head off if something had happened to his sister. He had specifically asked him to amp her security but it seemed like he didn’t care at all.
The scent led him to the basecamp. His wolf grew even more anty when he sensed this. His nose twitched as he smelled blood. Someone was hurt. His brain instantly conjured a ghastly picture causing him to bolt in the direction of the smell.
His steps faltered when he reached the edge of the clearing. There was another scent mingled with Kiara and blood; pine and lemon. It was weak and mild and didn’t hold attraction like earlier but it was there.
His blood turned cold. How was that possible? Why could he still smell her? And why in the F***G world was she in the Mystical territory?
