Chapter 35: Chapter 35
Emma’s POV
After a wonderful morning and evening, I go home. Living my best life, being the CEO. Not having a thing to worry about, making a lot of money.
Oh, who am I kidding? This is awful. My mind is filled with haunting scenarios. I reach home extremely weary, but then start cooking something since I’m practically starving.
And I’m pregnant, on top of that!
It’s not like I’m doing it on purpose though. I just didn’t get the time to eat.
I start chopping the vegetables and get some ramen out. I’m making Korean style ramen noodles!
It takes little time to prepare as I don’t boil the vegetables for too long. I set up the table. I put some in my bowl and then in Tim’s. I even got some chopsticks!
I try to pick up the food with those, struggle continuously for the next 5 minutes and then give up. I’m hopeless.
I throw them in the bin and finally get a fork. Tim ends up crackling at my failure. I narrow my eyes at him and his laughter dies down.
I am about to put the first bite in my mouth when I hear some keys dangling. The noise that the keys make.
I look around, perplexed. Just then my front door opens and Lucas walks in. My eyes go wide and bulge out of their sockets.
“ What are you doing here? And why do you have my keys? “ I practically scream at this point. Viewing this as a security threat, which anyone would.
“ Since you didn’t come, as I asked you to. So I invited myself in? “ He answers with a copy smile mastered on his face.
I leave my food and scurry to the front door.
“ Get out now. “ I utter.
He doesn’t budge but instead moves further in.
I block his path and nudge him outside.
“ You’re not getting in and give me my keys. “ I say trying to steal I from his hand.
Wait, steal? These are keys to my house.
“ Give it to me. “ I scream but he just raises it on top of my head. Since I am way shorter than him in height I can’t reach it.
“ If you’re done, let’s go inside. “ He states.
“ You step into my house and I’m calling the cops. “ I threaten.
He looks at me for a second and then scoffs.
“ You’re in no position to do that and you know that. “ He implies.
The whole commotion between me and Lucas gathers a teenager walking by.
He looks at me from a distance and motions to his phone. I look at him and Lucas follows my gaze. Finally, the teenage boy comes into notice.
He looks to be of my age.
“ Do you want me to call the police? “ He asks from there.
“ No- “
“ Try doing that. “ Lucas taunts before I can even stop him from doing so.
Within an instant. He dials the number.
“ Hello, there is a strange man in our neighborhood harassing a girl. Can you please come here fast? The address? It’s…… No, I don’t know her. I…saw it. Okay. “
I hear parts of the conversation. The boy finally steps up to Lucas.
Lucas isn’t intimidated in the least. I instead feel bad for the teenager. He’s getting himself in unwanted trouble.
“ Why are you bothering her? Back off. “ He orders, acting bold.
Lucas just rolls his eyes at that.
“ I don’t have time for this. “ He utters.
“ So you should go back to whatever dumpster you came from. “ The boy speaks, acting sassy.
“ One secret to a happy life is minding your own business. “ Lucas states, stepping closer to the boy.
“ You...should go. I’m alright. “ I reply meekly.
“ No, you aren’t. This scumbag is clearly bothering you. “ He bluffs.
I look at Lucas to see him getting mad. Anger slowly bubbling inside him.
Before the situation can escalate I decide to let Lucas in.
I drag an exceptionally furious Lucas inside the house and close the door.
“ Are… Are you mad? “ I ask.
He doesn’t answer, just looks at the door probably wanting to whack the boy.
I look at the table we were currently eating at. My dinner is now cold.
I sigh. I couldn’t even enjoy it. I sit at the table and try to digest the cold soup and vegetables.
I look at Lucas, he is responsible for this.
“ I was eating. “ I announce.
“ Before you came, and now my food is all cold. Thanks to you. “ I announce.
He looks at me and then at the cold bowl of ramen noodles.
“ I’m sorry. Let me buy you some food? “ He offers.
“ Why don’t you buy me a new life, because you ruined this one. I’ve been in the office my entire day. I don’t understand a thing there, and you will probably succeed at bringing me down. All I want to do is run away from here because I can’t and I don’t want to do this anymore. But abandoning that place is like abandoning Noah. I’m pregnant on top of all this mess. I don’ know how I’ll take care of a child when I have Tim to take care and I’ve miserable failed at taking care of him too. So tell me, Lucas, can you ‘buy’ me a new life with all the money that you have? “ I lash out at him.
This is all his fault. He looks taken back by my sudden outburst.
He tries to come close to me, to give me fake comfort but I stop him.
“ I really trusted you Lucas, but you have given me immense pain. You can not force love neither can you buy it. “ I enunciate.
“ I never wanted to force my love on you either. But you don’t seem to realize the intensity of my love. No matter what I do. “ He grumbles.
“ I really do love you, Emma, just be with me. “ He murmurs as if it is as easy as that.
“ I love Noah. “ I repeat, the same sentence I’ve been telling him these past days.
“ He’s dead Emma. And I really do pity you for loving someone that never loved you. “ He growls.
“ What do you mean by that? “ I exclaim.
“ If he loved you, he wouldn’t have abandoned you like that. If he loved you, he wouldn’t have left you miserable like that. Frankly speaking Emma, he never loved you because when you truly do love someone, you don’t give up on them. “
“ He couldn’t even love himself, how could he have loved you. “ He states, before leaving me all alone.
Letting his words haunt me, for the rest of the hollow empty night.
