Chapter 31: Chapter 31

A couple weeks passed by since Lily visited the Shengs. The last time she visited them was during the funeral of the old lady Sheng.

She knew that the old man needed some time alone so she lived in her apartment that was near her university. Sam would often visit her there along with Angel, Ali, Rahim and even Sanna who seemed happy around Lily.

One fine morning, a loud voice echoed in the apartment as Lily came out of her room wearing a bathrobe. She was holding a number of pills in her hand.

"Samuel Andres, I'll beat you. How dare you skip your medicines!?"

"I just dared", Sam said with a shrug while he continued to prepare the breakfast. Lily sighed in annoyance and stepped forward to beat him but then a low sleepy voice rang in her ears.

"What happened, dad? Miss. Lily, everything alright", Sanna asked as she stepped out of the other room. Lily turned to the little girl and said gently, "Nothing, kiddo. Did you just woke up?"

Sanna gave a nod and smiled as she greeted them. Lily kissed her forehead and spoke, "Go get ready. We'll have breakfast together then you've to leave with your dad."

Sanna nodded and went to her room to get ready while Lily scoffed looking at Sam then went in her to room to get ready to which Sam chuckled.

Lily came out after getting ready and sat on the chair ignoring Sam to which he frowned. He hated when she ignored him.

"Sweetie, go to your room and play for while. We'll call you when it's time to leave", Lily said to Sanna in a soft tone. Lily stood up and took her and Sanna's plates to the wash basin to clean ignoring Sam completely.

Sam stood up and slammed his plate on the counter where Lily was standing then gently pushing her away, he washed all the dishes. After he was done, he went to her room slamming the door behind him.

Lily sighed and went to her room to see the sullen man putting on his blazer angrily. She went towards him and hugged him from behind but he did not respond and continued to adjust his cuffs.

"Oieee, I should be the one to get angry not the other way 'round", Lily said kissing his back but he did not respond to her. She sighed deeply.

"Talk to me or you'll regret. I'll be leaving again tonight for a while", she said and let go of him but he held her close this time. "Where are you going again? Tell me what are you exactly doing or you want me to keep an eye on you?"

Lily raised a brow and asked teasingly, "Weren't you ignoring me?" Sam rolled his eyes to which she said, "Don't roll your eyes or they'll be stuck up."

He chuckled and shook his head while she smiled brightly and pinched his cheek.

"I'll be fine, don't worry", she said softly and pecked his nose. He hugged her tightly and snuggled in the crook of her neck while he mumbled, "Why do you keep leaving my side? You make me want to cage you right now."

Lily smiled softly and patted his back slowly. "I'm not leaving, baby. It's just a small work, I promise I'll be back soon but till then you can't contact me either."

Upon hearing this, he immediately looked up with a scowl on his face while she caressed his cheeks and pecked his lips. "I'll be fine and back to you within a couple days. My word to you."

He sighed and closed his eyes while she looked at his face.

"Don't be involved with the underworld things too much without my knowledge. Most of them still don't know who you are", he said while caressing her hairs and kissing her forehead.

Lily glared at him and exclaimed in an unhappy tone, "You dared to investigate your wife!!"

"Unless you want me to worry to death for you, you won't ask me to stop that."

She sighed and gave a small nod.

In the afternoon, the three of them left for airport. After dropping Lily, Sam and Sanna went back to their mansion in Manhattan.

"Dad, is that aunt your girlfriend?", Sanna asked as she looked at Sam who was sitting next to her in the car. He turned to her and gave a nod. "Why? You mind that?"

"Nope. She is nice like momma. Can you make her my mom?", she asked looking at him with anticipating eyes. "What if I say she is already your momma?", Sam asked keeping aside his iPad.

Sanna smiled brightly and nodded happily as she spoke, "I'll be so happy." Sam smiled and nodded but suddenly her lips tucked down. "What's wrong, kiddo?", Sam asked looking at her.

"If I call her momma, won't my momma be unhappy?"

Sam looked into his eyes of the innocent kid and said in a calm tone, "Let me tell you something." Sanna nodded giving her full attention to her dad.

"Your mom is alive. Her soul is. Lily Sheng is your mom. She needs to hide it because she has somethings planned out for people who hurt her and you. She'll be back to you soon, just a little while. Okay?"

Sanna heard him carefully and nodded like a good child.

"Momma is alive. She's here with me. Yay!!", She yelled happily and smiled.

Sam looked at the child and imagined how the family of three would be like when they get together. Lily would help Sanna with her school work while he would cook for them and take care of his two kiddos.

A feeling of warmth spread in his chest as he thought of the things.

Lily sat in a quiet room as she went through a couple of files that had Sam's name. She read all the things and wrote some notes in her diary.

After she was done reading everything, she closed the file and sat holding her forehead.

'If you want to cure the person, you must believe in yourself first.'

Lily remembered the words of her grandmother and opened her eyes that were much more confident now. She then took her pen and started writing some more things quickly as if she found the clue that she needed.

She tapped the pen in her hand and smiled looking up.

Just as she picked up the phone, she saw someone calling that was none other than Angel. Lily happily picked up but when she heard the worried voice of Angel, she frowned deeply.

"Sissy, I've something to tell you."

"Me too, big sis but you can go first."

"Well, Sam's condition is getting worse and uncle said he might have only a few days left."

Lily felt her world fall apart when she heard that and was quiet as gripped the pen in her hand. Her eyes filled up with tears. "You're kidding?", Lily asked biting her lips too hard.

"I ain't. I'll never joke with something like this. You know me, sissy", Angel said slowly while Lily started crying. "Don't let him die, I'll be there. Tell uncle to do anything but cure him."

"We are all trying. He needs you, come here quickly. He keeps calling out for you in his traumas", Angel said and sighed as she remembered how Sam locked the doors and started calling out for Lily.

Suddenly Lily's eyes fell on the diary she had and smiled softly as she asked.

"What are the chances of surgery?"

"None."

Lily scowled and bite her lower lip as she said calmly, "Don't let them give him any medication. I'll be there in a couple hours." Angel was confused. "But, sissy, he is having trauma attacks too badly."

"Big sis, believe me. I'll be there in a couple of hours. Tell him to hold on a bit."

Lily hung up and left the place quickly.
