Chapter 70: Chapter 70
Chapter Seventy
Ava's POV
I kissed him.
I grabbed his collar and pulled myself up before planting a peck on his lips, feeling like I might puke my guts out. Our lips contact was less than a second, before I pulled away but it felt like it was forever. He did not even get a chance to hold me, before I pushed him away.
He made a guttural sound in the back of his throat and tried to grab my arms from the side when I pulled away.
"Um huh. That's not a kiss." He whined for a second, sounding like a kid. I stopped myself from sneering at him.
"That's all you get from me. Now, let's go." I said, and picked up my purse. I twirled around to get out of the place when he grabbed my hand. Turning me to face him.
"That wasn't a kiss." He said, firmly.
I jerked my hand out of his hold. Turning my glare at him.
"I don't care. I did what you asked and now you would do what I asked. Since, you don't seem like a man who backs away from his words." I threw those words at him before spinning around and walking out of the place, knowing that he would follow him.
I threw in the last line that would not only stroke his ego but would also challenge him to follow me outside. Without putting up a fight. I needed him to cooperate with me and for that I would do anything. But, if I challenged his ego, this self absorbed person would take it on himself to go the other way. I really did not want that right now. Because, right now, he held all the power. To not appear helpless and begging, I had to resort to taunting.
Anyway, I stepped out of the restaurant and pulled out my phone to book an uber when a blue coat came to stand by my side.
"What are you doing?" He asked from my side.
"Calling an uber." I answered without looking to meet his eyes. Out of nowhere, my phone was snatched from my hands in one smooth motion and I was left stunned for a second. When I realised that Daniel had just snatched my phone out of my hand, I raised my head to yell at him from taking my phone out of my without my permission, when it was returned back into my hands just as swiftly as it was taken from me. Off this time, with the screen closed this time.
"No need for an uber." He said, dismissing me. He was just as tall as Jasper, maybe even a few inches taller than Jasper, so he could easily look far in the distance. He signalled someone in the far distance, over my head, and a black SUV came racing down to where we were standing.
It came down to halt right in front of us.
"Let's go." He said, right the moment, the door opened from the inside. Daniel tried to place his hand on my back and guide me to the car, but I side - stepped his hand, not only stopping him from doing it, or even giving him the chance to do it again. Only Jasper had the right to do it. Only his touch gave me comfort and warmth. It was like my skin remembered his touch. Recognised his warmth.
Other men, especially one like Daniel Cooper, disgusting and inhumane, made my skin crawl. I was still recovering from the peck that I had placed on his lips. It was like my lips were infected and that made me wash my whole damn mouth.
Walking up to the car, I slid inside it before Daniel closed the door. Rounding the car, he came to the opposite side of the door, opened it and climbed inside it as well.
"Hotel, Sir?" The driver in the front seat asked after looking at me through the rear view mirror. My horrified and disgusted glare met Daniel, who gave me a smirk before turning his head to the front and shaking his head slightly.
"Take us to the hospital." He said and looked at me to tell the driver the name of the hospital. The driver started the car and off we went.
The whole time travelling to the hospital, I tried to stay silent. But it was hard since I could feel his stare boring on my side. I tried to ignore it but at one point, I just could not do it anymore. I glanced at my side and raised my eyebrow at him, in question. Instead of answering me, he kept staring at me.
At last, it was me who broke the silence.
"What?" I asked him.
He did not say anything or answer me. However, this time he tore his eyes away from me. Then, he ignored me. What was wrong with him? What the hell was wrong with him? I mean, the way he behaved was so strange and weird. After that, I ignored him completely the entire trip to the doctor.
When we finally arrived at the hospital, his driver moved to get out of the car to open my door for me but Daniel stopped him in his mid move. In his driver's stead, he walked around and opened the door for me and held it until I got out. I would have opened the door myself but I was so shocked by his moves that I just did not even realise when he reached my side and opened the door.
Anyway, I got out and then both of us walked to the hospital. I found the doctor and introduced Daniel to her. I told her that we were here for the blood test that was required. She gave me a surprised look and subtly checked Daniel.
"Umm ... that was fast." She said, before nodding towards Daniel.
"Give me a minute. I will prepare for the test." She said to both of us and then almost turned around to leave when she stopped and turned back to me.
"Oh, by the way, Mr. Grey is here too. He came here looking for you, worried that you had come here for the check up alone." She told me. Both surprising me and scaring me to death.
"Mr. Grey?" Daniel asked me from my side, making the doctor raise her eyebrows in surprise. Probably, surprised by the fact that I did not tell the person beside me about the fact that I came here with Jasper. Giving me a look of apology, she turned around and left for her work.
"Mr. Grey?" Daniel questioned again, this time with more force.
I looked up at him. Unsure, how was I supposed to possibly explain this to him. Or how was I supposed to lie to him? He knew that I worked for Jasper but he had no idea that I also lived with him. If he found out about it ...
"Ava." I heard from some distance.
I closed my eyes tightly. This could not get any worse.
Peeling my eyes open, I saw him coming my way, looking a little worried. When he reached a little distance, he spoke, completely unaware of who I was standing next to.
"Ava, you left alone and came here for a check up. I was so worried. What is going on ..." He stopped speaking, finally registering who I was standing next to.
"You." Jasper said to me, still looking at him.
"Him." Daniel said to me, while still looking at him. Then Daniel's eyes slid between both of us and then something settled down in his eyes. Something like understanding flashing in his eyes. Then ...
"You and him ..." He said, looking at me with a hint of surprise and a look of mischievousness. As if he had found somebody's dirty little secret. He grinned at me.
"Ava. What's going on? Why are you with him? Why is he here? Why is he here with you?" Jasper asked me.
"Jasper, wait. Let me explain." I told Jasper. I raised my hands to calm him down. But he did not calm down. In fact, my inability to answer him right away seems to enrage him even more.
"What is going on?" Jasper yelled at me. Drawing the nearby nurses and people's gaze on us. A nurse walked past us, putting a finger on her lips, telling us to shut up. But Jasper as much as did not even flicked his eyes on her and only kept staring at me for answers. So, I decided to give it to him straight.
"The guy who I hooked up with that night was him." I answered him. My voice wavered a little when I told him.
"Daniel is the father of my baby." I told him. He stared at me in disbelief and then his eyes turned angry. It was the reaction that I had expected from him but also dreaded to see on his face.
"And she just kissed me to convince me to come here." He told Jasper with a smirk. I knew what was about to happen in the next second, but I stopped before it happened. I grabbed Jasper's other hand and pulled him firmly with all my strength, before his raised fist could collide with Daniel's face. It drew Jasper's focus away from Daniel and focused on me. Jasper's eyes met mine and I gave him my coldest stare. That told him a single message. 'Not now.'
Stopping from doing anything stupid with just the glare of my eyes. With Jasper's big hand clenched into mine, I took a step toward Daniel and whispered harshly.
"Get the blood test done." I said through gritted teeth before I spun around and pulled Jasper with me. I dragged him out in the empty parking lot and dropped his hand. We both faced each other. Jasper got on my face with a harsh breath.
"Care to explain that?" He asked in a tight voice. His jaw clenched and his shoulder tense.
I inhaled a deep breath, trying to calm myself before continuing with this conversation.
"He was the guy that I hooked up with that night." I told him once again.
"He was the guy who left me alone the next day without leaving a note behind, or as much as telling me his name. Much like what happened when we hooked up." I told him.
I saw Jasper balled his fists and clench his teeth tightly. His eyes turned icy cold and his face into seriousness.
"What we had was nothing like what you had with him. He was a stranger and I was not. He left you after that day, I did not." He started through his clenched teeth.
"Is it really though? You don't know me either, Jasper. If that did not make you a stranger then it also did not make you a known person either. I don't know anything about you, Jasper. If he left me that night alone then so did you. I woke up alone on my bed. Just like I did that day." I told him in a whisper.
It made his eyes flash with guilt. It was in and out of his eyes in just a few seconds. He did not try to counter it because he knew that I had made a point. I took a deep breath and looked over his shoulder.
"I did not know that you knew about him. I didn't even know his name, less than who was him. The day I saw him in your office, I was surprised." I told him. Remembering the exact moment when I saw him sitting in his office. I remembered how my heart had almost leaped out of my heart.
"I talked to him later that day. He did not remember who I was. Or maybe just claimed to be. So, I decided it was for the best to ignore all of it and forget about it. If he did not even remember who I was then what was the point of reminding him. There was also the reason that I wanted to forget about that night as well. I wanted to move on from my past." I told him and then sighed.
"I was looking forward to things that could not happen. I was looking forward to moving on from my past life." I whispered. Staring into the distance. I felt an ache in my heart that was growing more and more, as I was telling him.
"Then what is he doing here? If he did not even remember you then how come he is here? By the looks of it, I would say he pretty much remembers everything." Jasper asked in a hard voice. I glanced at him, the sunlight dancing on his handsome face. Will he understand what I was going to tell him?
"He later contacted me via phone call and called me. Tell me to meet up." I told him.
"I did. He asked what I was doing in your office and why I was working for you." I said.
"What did you tell him?" He asked, looking a little calm but his face was just as serious as before. He shoved his hands in his pockets and took a few steps near me.
"What did you tell him?" Jasper asked me.
"Nothing. I told him nothing. I just got out of there." I told him. Jasper let out a frustrated sigh and rubbed the back of his neck, releasing the harsh breath.
"Stop beating around the bush and tell me why is he here?" He asked harshly. His voice was rough and throaty.
"He is here to save my kid from a possible danger in the future." I told him, my eyes filling up with tears.
"My baby might suffer from a dangerous disease once it is born. And only Daniel's blood could save him." I finally told him.
"What?"
