Chapter 65: Chapter 65
Chapter Sixty - Five
Ava's POV
Contrary to what I had believed, work proved to be a great distraction for me. Especially, when you wanted it to be.
The moment I stepped inside my office room, other than greeting everybody, I had just walked straight to my seat and picked up my left off work and began working. I opted for not engaging in any gossip that I heard in the background as the employee around me worked.
I disregarded everyone and everything, completely emerging myself in the work. Nobody bothered me when I worked, probably sensing that something was off with me today. Thus, there was no distraction when I worked.
My focus was broken when I heard a ping sound, indicating that I had received a text message on my phone. To my surprise, a phone number was not added to my phone. At first, I thought that it would be better to ignore it. It must be from a company or some random scheming asking you to join their course or such, but then I heard the sound of my phone beep again.
Another message.
Sighing, I picked up my phone. My focus had officially been broken and I could only go back to work once I checked who was messaging me. I opened the screen and put in my password before I opened the arrived message. The messenger was unknown, obviously, and the message came from a number.
I almost backed up without seeing the message and blocked the number but my thumb accidently jerked to the message and the screen opened and showed me the messages.
*Meet me in front of your office's restaurant in five minutes. I guess it's time to formally introduce ourselves to each other.
I frowned and scrolled the screen and saw the next message.
*Your one night stand. ;)
My eyes widened and my heart thudded against my chest. A startle gasp leaving my mouth.
I could not believe my eyes. What was I reading?
With my breath held, I reread the messages to check if what I was reading, correct and real. It could not be.
My eyes scanned the text again and again and I came to the realisation.
It was from Daniel. Daniel Cooper.
My one night stand.
In the chaos of me and Jasper having sex, ignoring and not talking to each other. I completely forgot about him. After all, the last time we met it was anything but not memorable. How could I forget about him? HOW? He never really left my mind ever, was always in the back of my mind since it was impossible to forget him. Then how come I literally forgot him right next the night when we talked to each other. I COMPLETELY forgot about him.
Damn, Jasper and that night.
And then my mind began racing with questions.
How did he get my number? How did he know that this number belonged to me? Or more importantly why was he asking me to meet him? Did he come to remember that night? How? It was not possible. Last time I met him, he pretended to be completely oblivious. Then how? How come he remembers now?
I glance at his second text message.
There was no way that he did not remember. He clearly pointed it out.
Suddenly my mind began reasoning with myself. Maybe, it was someone else. Maybe, somebody was playing a prank on me, who had no better thing to do. Perhaps ...
Perhaps ... It was him.
I glanced down at my phone. With trembling fingers, I texted him back.
*Where did you get this number?
It took me more than a few minutes to type that out since it was hard to type with shaky fingers but when I did, I sent the message right away, not letting myself think twice about it. If I did then probably I would change my mind. I knew I was a coward anyway.
Then a minute later, my phone pinged again and I looked down to see that he had already replied to me. He tipped fast.
*Did you forget so easily? It meant that I had not made the right impression from my skills if it was so easy to forget about me.
He wrote me back.
My hand covered my mouth.
Now, it was confirmed. Any doubt and hope that I had of him not being the same guy, fled out of the window. There was no way that this was any other person than Daniel. I gulped to wet my dry throat.
I read the text again.
Feeling my hands were trembling a little.
*Ping.
I almost dropped the phone when another text popped up on my phone screen. This time I did not hesitate to read what he had sent. There was no confusion who it was coming from now. Also, I wanted to know what he had sent me. The dreadful anticipation of receiving another text almost had my stomach twisting inside me.
In a hurry, I opened the text message and read it.
*Come to the restaurant or I am coming to your office and personally escorting you here. Your choice."
The message read.
I leapt up from my seat without realising it. My sudden move snapped everybody's attention towards me. I almost shrank into myself, having everybody's attention. They all stared at me wanting me to clarify my sudden course of action. Embarrassed, I gave everybody an apologetic smile and picked my purse from the table. I left the place with my head bowed, right as everyone's attention went back to their work. Which I was grateful for.
In a hurry, I made it to the outside and when I was finally outside the office, I exhaled in relief. From the colleague's attention, not from the text tension.
I threw my purse over my shoulder and opened my phone to see the text again.
Come to the restaurant or come to get me himself. My Choice!
Uh! What a joke. Like it was REALLY my choice. But I could not ignore it anymore. I had to meet him or he was coming to get me. If it was someone else then I would have given the benefit of the doubt that they must be bluffing, but from how much I had come to know him, I knew for a fact that he was serious. He for sure will come and get me personally if it takes that.
Even if he was bluffing, I knew that I could not risk it. What if he was not bluffing? What will happen then? He would certainly come here to get me. And what if he entered my office and my employees somehow found out that I was connected to him somehow.
No. I could not risk it. I was going to have to meet him.
Knowing that I had no other option other than going, I made up my mind. I was going to face him, knowing that he remembered everything. And most importantly, him knowing the fact that I remember. Man, this whole situation was damned to a fault.
I walked and took the elevator to the ground floor. The lunch time was almost here, in about five to ten minute, it will officially be the time. But I took early leave, not that anyone would bat an eye on it. They somewhat knew that I had health problems. Although, what Exactly that problem was, they knew nothing about.
I walked outside the building and right across the road, where I could see the restaurant Daniel was talking about. I gave a flight to the restaurant, one that I never paid attention to. Without ever seeing anything, I push myself to walk up to the restaurant entrance.
As soon as I walked in front of the restaurant, the doorman bowed and then surprised me by asking, "Are you Miss White?"
He asked me.
I widened a little in surprise at his question. What? Did he know me?
"Uh ... yes." I answered him.
He looked over his shoulder and gestured for someone.
My brow creased in confusion as I saw what was happening in front of me. I looked over his shoulder to see who he was gesturing to when a waitress opened the door and appeared in front of me.
"Miss White." She greeted me.
"You are expected on the second floor for VIP's by Daniel Cooper. Please come inside." She said and pushed the door inside and stepped inside, to give me room to walk inside.
A little shocked, a little surprised and with a little blank mind, I entered inside through the gate.
"Please, follow me." The waitress said pleasantly, looking over her shoulder to me and jerking her head to the direction she was leaving me. She led me to the stairs. I followed her upstairs and she led me to the second floor.
As soon as I reached the second floor, I found him.
My eyes met his arrogant one, burning and bright. Like hands on my skin.
And then I realised.
He was smirking at me.
