Chapter 52: Chapter 52
Chapter Fifty - Two
Ava's POV
The instant I sauntered inside my office, I began searching for one of my colleagues. Specifically, the one of those whom I knew the most. Anyone would work at this point of time. I was in a hurry to get myself out of this situation. The risk for me to go back and face him again was too much.
I was not even sure if I would be able to face him. The stakes were too high. Who knows if he discovered who I was from observing my behavior again? What would I do then? What if he suddenly remembered that night? What then? Will he say something in front of Jasper? Will he tell him that he knew me? Will he say what happened between us?
And then what would Jasper reply with? Will he tell him that I was carrying his baby at the moment? Will he ask him to go away? Will he ask me to leave this job and go with him?
"Shut up!" I whispered harshly to myself. This was getting ridiculous. The voices in my head were filled with so much insecurities that it was hard to think straight.
They were the deep rooted fear that was now coming to front of my head. It was the same fear that was now taking power over me, making me think irrational things.
Nothing of this sort was going to happen. I would not let it.
I will find a way out of this mess but before that. However, the most crucial thing that was at the moment was to dodge the current situation. And in order for that to happen, I needed to find someone who would help me through these circumstances.
My eyes skimmed over the crowd that was working inside the office but I could not find the people I was seeking for.
Lillith, Madeline or anyone that needed to see at the moment were here. None. It was like they had heard my thoughts in the wind and had decided to whoosh out of here. It was the time I needed one of them the most but since none of them were here, I decided to resort to my last escape plan. I will ask one of the working staff here and ask them to do me a favor.
Because there was no way in hell that I was returning to Jasper's office. Even if I get scolded by Jasper himself later. Even if I was considered rude.
Which I was sure would happen since Daniel had asked ME to bring him a coffee. Well, technically he had requested a coffee but I had heard the persuasion behind his words.
Particularly, it was a task that needed to be done. Whether I brought it or not, it did not matter. And I will tell whoever I was sending in Jasper's office in my stead, an excuse to why I could not go. They will transfer the message onwards and that would be it.
Anyway, I saw a middle aged man working. He seemed calm enough and had a little kind look on his face. I hoped he was as he appeared from outside and agreed to my request. Hesitantly, I chose to ask him for this favor.
"Where the hell are you guys?" I muttered to myself, thinking about my known colleagues, as I began to approach a person.
Out of the blue, I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Ava? What are you doing here? Did you delivered the coffee that Mr. Gray had asked?" A voice came from right behind my shoulder. I recognised that voice. I had just heard it before I left for Jasper's office.
Lillith.
With a very rare smile on my face, I spun around in my heels and came face to face with Lillith.
Thank you, god. Thank you so much. This was what I needed.
"Lillith?" I said her name as if I was surprised which I was.
"Yeah. What happened? Got the work done?" She asked me, scratching her hand.
"Yes. Yes, I did." I replied to her smiling. Lilith shrugged.
"Good. Then why aren't you back to work?" She queried.
"Oh, well. Actually that was why I was searching for you." I said and she raised a brow in question. Silently, asking me to continue.
"For me?" She probed. I nodded my head eagerly and pulled her to my side of the table, where I worked.
"Yeah. Right before I reached Mr. Gray's office, another guest had arrived already. He and Mr. Gray was in a meeting. He had asked to have a cup of coffee." I told her.
"So ..." She pulled her head back as she stretched her 'So'.
"So, can you give it to him? I had a task come up and would not be able to deliver at the moment." I asked her.
She glanced at me and shrugged again.
"Sure. I don't have any work at the moment. Tell me what he wants?" She asked nonchalantly.
Internally, I let out a big sigh. That was quite safe. It was way easier than I had thought it would. If she would have denied then I probably would have told her that her wish from the morning was coming true. When she had asked to be the one to bring that coffee to Jasper. I would have told her to not miss this opportunity.
Anyhow, I told her the same order that Jasper asked me to make. Daniel had asked me to bring the same type of coffee. I hoped he would not complain about it.
"Okay. Then I'm going." Lillith said and swirled around to leave when I stopped her.
"Wait." I said, making her pause. With a sigh, she turned around.
"And can you tell me about the person whom you are taking this coffee to, later?" I asked. Lillith frowned.
With a silly expression, I shook my head.
"I think I had seen somebody like him on T.V." I told her as an excuse.
Lillith's face transformed as a silly grin adored her face. By the looks of her expressions that she had gotten the wrong idea.
"Sure. Now, I want to know it myself." She said before spinning around and disappearing out of the office.
Me too.
And now I needed to wait.
I sat down on my desk and began rummaging through the papers trying to find what I was doing. However, no matter what, I could not bring myself to focus on anything but him.
He was back. His name was Daniel Cooper.
I shook my head and leaned back on my seat. Why was this happening to me now? Why? What is the point of him showing at this point of time? When I was moving on or already moving on?
Was this how things were going to go?
Sighing, I glanced over all the work that I had done in the last few hours, just because I thought that I was going to leave this building after a few hours and never look back. Because I thought I was going to resign and leave it all behind.
What a change of event.
From thinking about resigning to talking it out from my boss to him denying my resignation to him telling me to bring him coffee, I found out that he somehow knew the father of my kid. What was happening to my life?
I picked up a file and began working on it. Or else my thoughts would eat me alive.
A little time passed as I continued to work on it.
"Ava." A voice came from my side as a shadow fell over me.
Raising my head, I saw that it was Lillith. Lillith who was staring down at me with an expression that I could not decipher. Except that I knew that it was not good. And THAT sobered me up real soon.
Her expressions gave me a sudden halt in breathing.
"What happened?" I asked in a low voice but Lillith did not reply to me. Instead, she pulled out a chair and sat down beside me. Something was wrong. It was not specifically Lillith's type of face. Not a gossipy or curious type of face. It was more serious than anything.
I knew from her silence whatever was coming my way was not something I was prepared for. Nor was it something that I would like. Frankly, I never really thought that Lillith was capable of having these sorts of expressions.
"Were you talking about Daniel Cooper?" She asked me with grave expressions. I paused at his name. She knew about him.
I hesitated.
What was with him?
"Yeah. What is wrong?" I questioned her.
"You are really starting to worry me." I told her.
"He is our CEO's biggest enemy. He is his biggest competitor." She told me. Like stating the obvious.
My brows creased in confusion and I stared at her dumbly. My head slid back in bewilderment and puzzlement.
"What?" I asked her dumbly, shocked at the revelation.
"Daniel Cooper. The owner of Royal Blue Company. His company holds the same value as our company does." Lillith told me. I looked at her stunned. Almost flabbergasted.
"They both hold the first place in clothing manufacturers and fashion companies. If our company is one of the most famous company in USA then his company is just as popular in Europe and Asia. In fact, his company is renowned for being one of the most highly selled brands outside the USA." Shaking her head, Lillith continued.
"Currently, he is trying to strengthen his branches in the USA. And he is also trying to cut off any competition. At the moment, there is no as big of a competition in this field as our company." She informed me. I just sat there staring at Lilith as she poured out information one after another.
Was he this famous? Then how come I never heard about him? Especially when I was in this field of work and knew about our company? I should have heard something about him or his company.
"If he is that popular then how come I never heard about him or his company? I mean, I knew about this company. Then how come I never heard about him? I mean, his company? I must have, at least, heard about something. But I heard none." I probed more. Did I really just skip his name during my college? How come he was this popular?
Lillith leaned back in her chair, running her hand through her hair.
"Actually, he is not American. He was born somewhere in Spain or Italy. I don't really know. His company just extended its reach in the USA just five years ago. So, not a lot of people know about it. '' Lillith said, shaking her head as if irritated.
"On the other hand, our company has been in this business for almost Twelve years. Therefore, not only we are old and known but this company is the most trustable once." She said.
"He initiated his start up there. His company did good and grew up to be where it is now. Royal Blue strengthened its roots in Europe first and then grew it's branches everywhere around the world. Especially in Asia after Europe." Letting out a sigh, Lillith leaned forward.
"And now he wants to conquer the USA too. America has a broader range of people who like to invest in clothes and fashion. So, this place had become his ultimate target. Not only, if he managed to reach a great range of people then his company would become enormous but the shiny highlight of hollywood will also help it reach the whole world. And then it will become global. Dominating the whole world." She explained to me.
My mind short circuited.
I felt my eyes widening and my face transforming into a surprised expression. Because Lillith did surprise me. How come she knows so much about all of these?
"How do you know about this?" I asked her, awed by how much she knows. She shrugged nonchalantly.
"Time to time, I have seen him come here in this office. And people talk. Gossip. Plus, I am engaged in one of the major tasks of this company. I need to stay updated." She told me, hidden pride evident in her voice.
Out of the blue, her head shot at me and she gave me one of her glare.
"You had a crush on him?" She questioned, catching me off guard. I shook my head frantically.
Who would tell her that I had more than a crush on him?
Lillith shrugged.
"To be honest, it does not matter. You can have a crush on him. He is handsome for sure. But not as much as Mr. Gray." She said, wistfully. Her words made me smile or more like her dreamy face. I rolled my eyes at her then chuckled.
"You are lovesick." I said.
She winked at me and said, "I know."
