Chapter 50: Chapter 50
Chapter Fifty
Ava's POV
Lunch went way better than I had thought that it would. We, especially me, did not end up shouting. On the other hand, Jasper talked and behaved like a mature adult that he was and not like earlier, a teenager throwing tantrums.
To be very frank, none of these was something that I expected would happen. I mean the way Jasper was behaving with me a few days ago, I never would have thought that he would apologize for it. But then again, I also never expected him to even behave like that in the first place.
Anyway, right after lunch at the restaurant we went back to the office. Both of us entered the office building side by side. He had not asked me to go and get checked by a doctor again. Which I was thankful for.
At this moment, I was feeling anything but seeing a doctor. Visiting a doctor would remind me that things were not different from the last time I had visited before and that I was still pregnant.
At the moment, I was feeling really happy and light. And seriously did not want to spoil it. Also, I never really liked visiting hospitals or doctors, but I bear with it because of my baby. That was another reason that I wanted to avoid going to the doctor.
Anyway, we walked until we reached the section that was separated for VIP and regular employees. I was a regular employee therefore I had to take the elevator one made for me. Before Moving to take the other elevator, I thought I should say something before both of us go back to work.
I halted in my steps and so did Jasper, turning to face me.
"Okay. I am going to take the elevator and go back to work. And about that resignation letter ..."Jasper stopped me as he grabbed my arm gently and pulled me to the VIP section elevator.
"Get in here." He said as he pulled me to his side and pressed the button for closing the elevator door and then pressing our floor buttons.
It happened so fast and unexpectedly that I didn't even get the chance to comprehend what had happened. I, SO ..., was not expecting this from him. My mouth fell open a little and I stared at his face looking shocked.
The elevator tinged closed leaving me standing alone with Jasper, unable to shake off the shock.
Jasper glanced my way and put both his hands in his pockets.
"Close your mouth or it will catch a fly." He muttered before his shoulder fell forward and he became a little sluggish. Appearing very tired.
"Are you tired?" I asked him. He glanced down at me before giving me a lazy and tired smile.
"Yeah, the workload is getting worse day by day. I am unable to catch much needed sleep. I hope I can find some time to go on a vacation away from this chaos and work." He said, letting out a sad chuckle.
"I wish my life would be a little more like what they show in movies and dramas. A CEO going on all the vacations, all the time and never working. Would have been a dream." He said, his voice throaty and tired all at once.
I felt a little guilty at the moment. Because that was what I also thought to be a CEO's lifestyle.Vacationing all the time, going to all different places and never working.
Seriously, this glamorization of this sort of lifestyle was very toxic. People Like me only saw these rich people as getting served on plates and never working for it, but it turns out there was no free meal in this world. They all had to work to get all the things they have.
"I really need a break." He sighed, rubbing his neck like it ached.
Me too.
I wanted to say but did not.
All of a sudden, Jasper turned to face me.
"And about that resignation letter." He said, catching me off guard, looking me dead in the eyes.
"That is going into the trash can. I am not accepting it and you are leaving this work." He announced, like this matter was not up for debate.
I stared at the ground.
I was not going to ask him to accept it anyway. However, if he would have accepted it then I would have left.
For sure.
I did not like to be a burden. And whether somebody accepted it or not, I had a little self respect for myself. If it had come to me leaving then I Would have resigned and left. Although, the situation was different now. We were past, from what we had fought. We had sorted our differences and moved on.
"Okay." I said in a slow voice. Unable to look him in the eye.
"Ava ..." He called out my name. I raised my head and saw one of his most sincere and serious expressions. I gulped at the sincerity of it.
"I apologise for how I Behaved with you. I had been under pressure for the last couple of days and had been frustrated over the workload. And I probably took it out on you." He said.
"I know that it is no excuse but I just wanted you to know that it was not me. I am not the sort of person who I seemed to have behaved like in the past couple of days." He continued sounding very sincere and tired.
"And I will never threaten you again. I know that I was being an asshole." I gasped when he used A cuss word but he just ignored my reaction and kept speaking.
"It was a sick move from my side. Anyway, I can't change what I have done. But I would not repeat it from my side." He stated, his firmness giving me a sense of belief that maybe, indeed, he would never repeat that mistake again.
The elevator tinged open and I Just kept staring at him. He peered at me and jerked his head to my floor.
"It is your floor. Go ahead." He nodded his head to the office, silently telling me to get off.
Finally snapping out, I stepped out of the elevator and swirled around to face him. He smiled and pressed the button for the elevator to close the door, however when the door began to shut close he stopped it.
"By the way, can you bring me a strong espresso coffee?" Jasper asked me. My eyes creased at his request.
"Charlotte usually brings me my coffee but she is on leave today, so can you bring it for me?" He questioned, Explaining further, probably because of the look on my face.
Had I appeared that clueless?
I smiled, giving him a nod.
"Sure. Tell me how you like your coffee?" I asked him.
"Strong and without any sugar. Bitterness of it helps me stay awake." He answered me, with his hands still holding the door from closing up.
"Sure. I will bring it up to your office right away." I answered him.
"Thank you. I will meet you in my office then." I just nodded and he removed his hands from the doors letting it close right back in. With that he disappeared from my vision.
I turned around and started walking back to my office area. Instead of going back to my office though, I walked into the pantry section and pulled out a cup. I chose an espresso coffee and filled my cup with it. I made sure to follow Jasper's instructions made it strong without adding any sugar.
At last, with his coffee done, I walked back where I came from when I bumped into Lillith.
"Whoa! Sorry. I was not looking where I was going." She said, glancing at the cup in my hand. It was covered therefore the coffee did not spill anywhere, thankfully. Or else we both would have covered ourselves in coffee.
"That's alright." I replied.
"Ava?" Lillith saw me, maybe noticing my face for the first time. Her face was a little shocked.
"Oh, I did not realise it was you." She said,
Out of the blue, she crossed her arms around her chest and pinned me with a look. Looking a little guilty.
"Are you still mad at me?" She asked but without hearing my answer continued talking on her own.
"Listen, I am sorry for how I behaved earlier. I did not understand what I was doing. That was so immature of me." She told me, her voice nonchalant. But then I noticed the hint of guilt in her eyes and I knew that she was being honest.
"That is alright. I hope you will not behave like that again." I told her. She sighed and unfolded herarms from her chest.
"I won't." She concluded before her eyes took in the cup of coffee in my arm.
"Are you going to drink that much coffee?" She pointed at the cup and asked me.
I smiled and shook my head.
"No. It is not for me. It is for Mr. Grey." I told her. For a second her eyes widened and her socket seemed to appear out of her eyes.
"He asked you to bring this coffee to him? Does he know you?" She questioned in astonishment, looking at what I could only describe as a stunned expression.
Oops. That slipped out of my mouth.
She did not know that I lived in his house with him.
"Humm ..." I tried to come up with an excuse when she spoke again.
"Wait. Of course, he knows you." She said, smacking her forehead as if embarrassed on her own stupidity.
"You got here on recommendation, right? Mr. Grey approved of you personally?" She asked me and I just nodded. She nodded back, understanding filling her features.
"Of course. You were recommended by Charlotte ma'am herself and the CEO approved you. You began working here, right after college." She told me or more like reminded herself.
Then she asked.
"Lucky you. I wish he knew me like you and asked me to bring him coffee. He is really handsome." Lillith claimed her voice a little wistful.
I know a girl, I know.
Handsome for sure.
Suddenly, her eyes snapped to met mine.
"Don't tell him that I said that." She declared, her voice alarmed. Perhaps she was talking to herself without even realising that I was there.
I made a gesture of me zipping my mouth and throwing away the keys, indicating that I would keep her secret and be silenced on this matter. Not going to give away her secret.
Because it was not a secret. Everybody knew that he was handsome and a perfect model type. If he hadn't opened up this company then he easily could have made good money from being a model.
"I won't say anything. Anyway, I need to go or this coffee will go cold." I told her.
"Sure. Go ahead." She encouraged me to go on and I did. I left that place and Lillith went inside our office to work.
I took the elevator and pressed the button for the topmost floor. When it reached the floor I got off of it.
The memories of the last time when I was here, rushed back. Him shouting at me and leaving me here standing alone. I remembered, watching a new side of him that I had thought would not exist. It had surprised me to say the least but that was not it. It was more than that.
The moment when I saw him the way I did, I realised one thing that Jasper might be a Billionaire of this huge company but he was still a human. A human who was capable of being nice and angry.
From the moment I met him, I had only seen the good side of him but that day I realised that he was like any of us. Normal human beings who would snap if pushed beyond the limits.
Shaking all of these thoughts out of my mind, I walked over to his office and knocked on his door.
"Come in." His voice came from inside.
I smiled to myself and pushed the door open. As soon as the door opened, it revealed two men sitting in their.
One Jasper and second on the other side of the table facing away from me. Hearing That somebody entered, that person spun around in his chair and the coffee almost slipped from my hand.
My mouth fell open in shock.
It was that guy. The guy from that night.
He was the father of my baby.
