Chapter 55: Chapter 55
(Vivienne)
I couldn't believe my eyes nor did I want to believe what the grumpy thought of me. I was a young woman. A beautiful young woman but that didn't mean I loved seducing men. Where on Earth did he get such a crazy idea that I would try to seduce him. He was ridiculous and looking at his serious face, I just wanted to skin him alive, to strangle him to death because he was insulting me for saving him
Victor was ridiculous and a cocky man who thought so highly of himself. He never appreciated a good gesture. When someone did something good for him he thought of it as bad and brought out his arrogant behavior
"S...sir I know I made a mistake...but this...I don't think I was trying to do this" I stammered the words out sounding a lot more nervous than I was before. Looking at Victor he had that serious businessman expression plastered on his face that for a second I wanted to ignore his rules but seeing that cold aura emitting from him I thought otherwise
"Ending up in my bed is a crime and there are consequences"Victor said more coldly
"I didn't try to do this...I...I only tried to s…"
"The guts you had to sleep in my bed I won't tolerate"he cut her off rudely. with each word his voice sounded lethal. his eyes were bloodshot red that I swallowed nervously as I gripped the file in my hands even more tight
"You were hurt...I found you hurt and bleeding"I managed to choke out the words more bitterly, so much for helping him. he just thought so low of me. he questioned my character so easily when he didn't even know me at all
"You are forbidden from entering my room and if ever you dare to go against me...then we'd have a problem"he added and I was angry even if I didn't have to show it but I gathered enough strength to voice out my opinion
"The door was open and I heard the..."
"Don't meddle in my affairs….you are nothing but an employee in this house...stick to that," the man said, cutting me off before I could finish the sentence. I looked up at him in disbelief wondering how one man would be so bitter. He was too cruel and cold hearted that he didn't know what niceness was, I was trying to help him not end up in his bed like he assumed
"Then don't give someone a reason to save you" I lashed out, forgetting who I was talking to. He could as well as go to hell or stop giving other people reason to save him every time he got careless. Like me, Victor was caught off guard with my sudden outburst. Soon I regretted my words because the man looked furious. His eyes shone red and I could see how he was clenching his hands tightly suppressing rage. He rose to his feet and I knew he was about to kick me out,
"Ms. Payton you know who you are at this moment...what rights do you have to question me" like the serene waters of the sea his voice sounded, Victor said as he walked to his wine cellar. I watched him with vivid eyes as he slid the glass cabinet open and slowly searched for whatever he wanted. I rose to my feet not sure why he was drinking again. This was his problem and my problem
I walked away from the sitting area and made my way to the small table which was below the wine cellar. He poured himself some red wine and prepared to drink when I caught it midair. Just as he was about to connect it with his lips. I was serious as I caught the glass and my hand brushed against his. He was shocked, dumbstruck at my sudden action that he paused as he scanned my face as if intrigued with what I did
"Ms. Payton?" he mumbled in that husky deep voice which sounded as if he was being forced to talk. His eyes lowered to mine and since I was shorter than him. He towered over me like some giant scary creature. His brown eyes were sharp and his facial expression held that emptiness that would leave anyone wondering what those beautiful eyes held.
"Sir...if I'm not allowed to play a hero as you said...then it's best to avoid situations which will force me to save the day" I spoke with so much conviction. I was sure with my words as I kept my gaze on him. Our eyes met and I saw a flicker of surprise in his eyes. He could hide his emotions or reaction but now I was beginning to know the tiniest detail about him.
"It's bad to play a hero," he muttered while standing there with our hands connected. The air in the room was heavy. The tension was critical and I had no intention of backing down. Victor didn't move away but I wanted to make something clear I was his surrogate and I had every right to tell him not just my behavior would affect the unborn baby but the father's actions too
"And you should know drowning in sorrows doesn't do anyone good...let's make a deal...from now on I won't cause trouble... provided that you refrain from any alcoholic beverages for the next nine months," I said straight and took the glass of wine from him. He was stunned as I set the glass on the counter, turned to open the bottle, put back the bottle top, and put it back on the shelves. I slid the glass shut and dusted my hands and turned to the grumpy man
I found him standing there with a blank expression. I knew he was surprised that there existed a girl who could challenge his stubbornness and I, Vivienne Payton knew how to handle grumpy men like Victor. He could as well as scold me for that but he had to stop his ways if he wanted me to stop running to his rescue every time
"Is the deal on Mr. Ellison or are you afraid I'll always jump in to save the day?"I added more cheekily and rested my hands on my hips. The power I made was so intriguing and bossier and I knew that. The man didn't speak, he was shocked wondering which planet I came from to propose a deal with him. The boss with a reputation I was to fear. He had the power to make the entire city and country tremble
"Ms. Payton I can assure you that with this your attitude...we are going to have problems, "Victor said in a whisper as he turned to walk to his desk but stopped and looked at me over his shoulder
"You can go...and read all my rules...for peace's sake"just like that he said and walked behind his desk, pulled out a chair, and sat down gracefully. He didn't look at me or spare me his time but started arranging some files.
"Grumpy man" I mumbled to myself and walked to get the file of his ridiculous rules. Looked at him and then left his study room. If he was man enough then he would take up my challenge and avoid any liquor for nine months but if he was a coward who drowned his sorrows in alcohol then he would neglect my suggestion.
Immediately the door closed with a loud bang, Victor was alerted as he stopped whatever he was doing and looked up. His eyes narrowed into slits as if thinking about something, he shifted his cold gaze to the glass of wine on the table then to the cabinet full of all his collection of expensive wine from all over the world
"Who is she to tell me what to do?"Victor muttered with some irritation to his voice and averted his eyes from the wine. She was a fool to think he would listen to her. She was just a careless 22 years old girl who was nosy and got into trouble and ended up waking up in a man's bed and treating it as nothing
"Hey bro...so did you tell her?" while lost in thoughts, Victor was snapped back to his senses by the opening of the door and barging in of Justin
"Tell her what?"Victor asked with suspiciously as he leaned his back to his chair and pretended to be working. Justin paused for a while seeing how tense Victor was. He seemed to be uncomfortable that he was thinking
"What do you mean...I told you to tell her that she's your date to the dinner meeting you have later at night"Justin remarked sounding more irritated because he went through so much trouble just to convince their partners to postpone the meeting even when they were angry for Victor's absence
"I can go alone...she doesn't have to come"Victor professionally replied more and Justin arched his brow at his stubborn cousin
"That's impossible, it's a dinner date... Mr. Wilson said to bring a female date...and you know how particular he is with this...so since Monica isn't in the mood...I chose Vivienne to come with you" Justin explained and Victor was burning with rage. He was trying to get rid of the problem and now Justin was bringing the problem even closer "just great"
