"Mavi, tell me she's alright...how...how did this happen?"Alexis panicked as she came running. Maverick was fast enough to stop her from crashing into anything. It was rare to see her so worked up but what had happened earlier had left everyone shaken. Vivienne was in critical condition and Victor was doing everything possible to save her life
"She suffered a lot of burns and inhaled too much smoke...I'm afraid…"Maverick said hesitantly as he scratched the back of his head awkwardly knowing full well things had turned out bad
"What's it...is it bad...tell me nothing should happen to Vivie"Alexis couldn't take it anymore as tears flooded her face. The thought of Vivienne getting hurt was something she couldn't stand. Who knew what happened so suddenly. How did her apartment catch fire when she recalled talking to Vivienne? She was happy having Skylar's sleepover. Both talked over the phone for a while and she knew how her friend was happy. Vivienne was always careful.
"She suffered from smoke inhalation injury...her airways and lungs are irritated, swollen, and blocked, "Maverick said as he pulled Alexis in his arms to comfort her. He understood how she was feeling especially when the person suffering was someone dear to their hearts. Vivienne was the jovial kind.
She was selfless and the relationship she shared with everyone around her was something they cherished. Seeing her in such a bad state made him sick to the stomach. He thought she would get through this soon unfortunately of what Justin had told him.
He feared greatly. She was in the fire for so long and inhaled too much smoke which caused the airways and lungs to be blocked and swollen hence preventing oxygen from entering the bloodstream, at the same time she suffered from asphyxiation
"P...please save her...she...tell me she'll be okay...sobs...sobs...I want her here" Alexis broke into tears as she fisted Maverick's doctor coat tightly in her hands. She didn't want to feel the way she was feeling. It was too much for her. Her friend didn't deserve such pain
"It's okay... she'll be fine...relax"Maverick murmured as he circled his arms around her pulling her as close to him as possible. He didn't stop her but let her cry as she wanted. Her friend was hurting. He too was disturbed and just wanted to help out Victor but the man was too into his work to allow anyone to interrupt him. Justin just used stubbornness to join the team and now they were all standing outside the room Vivienne was in as they waited for everything to be over
"Is...how...how is she?"Cassy's arrival brought Alexis and Maverick back to their senses as they moved away from each other's embrace awkwardly. Alexis wiped her face as she blinked a few times and saw a slightly tall elegantly dressed lady standing before them with a baby in her arms.
The baby seemed to be two years old but she had him wrapped in warm blankets. She was pretty with short brown hair and the face of a model. And such innocent hazel eyes
"Cassy...well she's still in there...let's hope for the best"Maverick said with a slight nod and Cassy stood there agitated. Immediately Leo called her and informed her about what happened. She came running. She didn't want anything to happen to Vivie. She was a sweet girl
"How's Archie?"Maverick asked as he walked up close to Cassy. Of course, Cassy just smiled nodding a little knowing the doctor knew about her pregnancy before she left
"He's fine...he's sleeping now" she replied with a warm smile showing him a sleeping Archie. Maverick mouthed a stunned O and stood there. Alexis was a little confused but she recalled the name Cassy and she knew who Cassy was
"You are Cassy...I'm Alexis... Vivie's friend"Alexis regained her senses and walked up to Cassy and extended her hand for a handshake. Cassy who was too disturbed to notice there was a third person freed her right hand and went for the handshake
"Nice to meet you, "Casey said with a smile and retrieved her hand. Alexis smiled faintly as she nodded and turned her gaze away from there. It turned out Cassy was older than them. No wonder Vivie was fond of her. She seemed to have a nice personality
"Umm... Maverick is Leo here...he called me and…"Cassy started not sure what to say but she thought to find Leo already here.. he called her and he seemed upset. She had never seen Leo so upset before but she guessed the news about Vivie devastated everyone
"Well he went with...oh look here they come ''Maverick started explaining but smiled as he pointed towards the elevator area making Alexis and Cassy turn their attention there and spotted Leo and Monica approaching. Cassy's expression dropped seeing Monica in a long black coat and Leo in a brown one...he handed her coffee and Monica took it with a smile
"Hey Ricky...the nurse will bring coffee for us," Leo said as soon as he joined them and Maverick nodded. Cassy had turned away as she focused her eyes on her sleeping baby.
"Isn't it too much that people are infesting this place... Maverick why shouldn't others wait somewhere else"Monica said sarcastically as she walked up to Maverick..of course, her insults were directed at Cassy who immediately realized what was happening
"Moni... everyone wants to be here when the doctors come out...plus I don't think anyone would want to be anywhere else"Maverick replied politely and Monica scoffed as her gaze shifted to the woman she thought she would ever see. Leo realized Monica's insults and hoped Cassy didn't take anything the wrong way
"I'll get some coffee, "Alexis said to Maverick pointing at her stomach, she was in a rush to get a warm coat on. She was just wearing a small jacket and black leggings and ankle boots
"I'll escort you...you seem cold...let's get you something warm to wear"Maverick murmured as he took her by the arm. Alexis wasn't used to this gentle side of the doctor. It seemed now he was free with her. She didn't argue but let him lead the way as they left from there. It was best she got something warm to drink to pass the time
"Cassandra...why did you bring him...it's cold out here...let me hold him, "Leo said, shifting his attention to Cassy standing there alone with her baby and reaching out for Archie but Cassy stopped him before he could do so. She knew Leo was just being friendly like he always was unfortunately she didn't want the queen Monica to get angry
"Leo... it's okay...he's sleeping and I made sure…"
"That's enough...I'm sure you are tired...let me hold him for a while"Leo cut her off and forced himself to get Archie. Cassy was right, Archie was in something warm. The little boy was sleeping soundly. Leo couldn't help but stare at how adorable he looked with his tiny eyes closed
"Who's the father huh...who knew you would have a child...or wait...it was expected from people like you, "Monica said disdainfully as she walked up to where Leo and Cassy were. Her expression was of pure sarcasm as she crossed her arms over her chest in a bossy way
"Moni you shouldn't say that...at least not here or ever," Leo said with a warning glare not sure why she was making such uncomfortable remarks about a fellow woman
"Leo it's okay and yes...he's my son Moni...I'm not ashamed to say it"Cassy said defensively as she looked at Monica with a bold expression. Her proud smile proved how much she was happy to have a son even if others thought of it as an abomination. She wasn't the only single mother in the world for Monica to insult her
"Oh really... People like you are never ashamed even of wanting something they can never have...how funny"Monica remarked with a sly mocking smirk. Cassy was uncomfortable realizing what Monica was trying to say… both women stared at each other with different expressions. Leo was too busy sitting on the chair with Archie to notice the tension between the two women
"What's that supposed to mean?"Cassy asked with a frown. Monica snorted as her expression darkened. If she had to slap someone then she would do it but she composed herself and smirked
"Just because my Leo is nice to a peasant like you... doesn't me...you should have ideas" Monica muttered softly only for Cassy to hear. Even if her voice was low Cassy sensed the angry tone to it
"If he's yours then why worry about another woman having him...or are you... insecure he's losing interest?"Cassy shot back with a sly smirk crossing her arms over her chest. She hated being bullied especially by Monica who seemed angry enough and if eyes could kill then many were likely to lose their lives
"Just focus on your little baby...I'm certain you don't even know who the father of the little bastard is"Monica countered with a sarcastic scoff flipping her hair off her face. Cassy's hand was clenched to the sides, she tried everything to keep calm and not slap Monica across her pretty face. Anger burned within her as her eyes shifted to Leo who was busy talking to Archie in a cute then back to Monica smirking at her
"He has a father Moni...don't be so overconfident...you might end up crying and alone, "Cassy remarked with a mocking smile tugging at the corners of her lips and walking right past Monica whose anger could be smelled from a mile away.
Her hands clenched tightly as her sharp long nails dug in her palm but she felt no pain. Whatever Cassy meant with her words. She didn't worry.
It seemed these people from the streets would continue to cause trouble. Just then the door to the room where Vivie was being treated opened, getting everyone's attention and a tired-looking Victor emerged.
