Chapter 31: Chapter 31
It is a bright sunny afternoon, the total opposite of how Kyle feels inside. Kyle is sitting on an exclusive yacht; in front of him is the majestic sunset view that would have been so romantic if Angel was the one with him right now- but she isn’t.
Sitting in front of Kyle is a stunning-looking lady in a red dress while he is wearing a tux that he did not want to wear in the first place.
Samantha is looking earnestly at the hot-looking man in front of her. She is wondering what this man is thinking at this moment because his eyes are full of sadness. Samantha’s heart ached a little with the fact that this man, who is now holding a part of her heart, is bearing sad eyes. Samantha can’t help but think about what might be happening. She shakes her head with a thought that maybe, just maybe, it might not be a thing but a person- someone who had already occupied the place that she wanted to be. Samantha finally broke the silence by asking Kyle how his wine was into which the latter just smiled and said “nothing special,”
“You seem to be deep in your thoughts,”
“It was nothing, nothing I can control,” Kyle looked sadder as he lifted his wine glass and took a sip of his Grade 1 Famous Chateau Mouton Rothschild Dry Red Wine, a costly wine that is supposed to move your soul-for Kyle tonight, it can’t taste any blander than this.
It is a warm, lovely night in the yacht as these marvelous individuals from the top one percent of the society. It is their second date, as most of their breed will call it, another one of this not so casual gathering, and the wedding bells will start ringing whether they like it or not.
“Do you have any idea why our families push for this?” Kyle asked Samantha as if he were a third person. Kyle’s statement clearly indicates that he is not interested in her, not even in the slightest way possible.
“You are very different today. Did they threaten you with anything?” Kyle continues to ask questions. He thought that the person in front of him was on the same both as he is. Little did Kyle know that this person was the exact reason he is now stuck on this expensive yacht with her.
Samantha did not answer the question. She does not like the way this conversation is going. She did not ask for this second date personally to his father just to feel this way.
Samantha recalls all the effort she needs to put into just to make this night happen. All the time she spent imagining Kyle complementing the red dress that she personally designed. How she changed her whole routine just to fit in this dress that she is wearing tonight- touching it up to make her breast a cup bigger, and it seems to be all in vain as this man is not even looking at her even if she is the only person here tonight.
“If you’ll excuse me,” Samantha can’t control her tears anymore. All of these feelings are new to her-falling in love and being heartbroken at the same time. Samantha practically ran into the comfort room and got there right on time before the first tear left her eyes. Samantha doesn’t understand why she feels this way. Kyle did not say anything to offend her; in fact, he did nothing at all. Is she excepting something? Some sort of happy to see you again sign? Did she expect him to feel the same?
“Stupid, those things only happen on books,” Samantha muttered in front of her reflection in the mirror. She tried her best to keep her composure, retouched her makeup, and practiced a smile.
“There is nothing to be sad about. Just be happy to see Kyle again and start from there,” Samantha’s little way of cheering herself, little did she know that those words would instantly go to the drain too soon.
Samantha exited the comfort room with a smile. She then noticed that Kyle was not in his seat, so she tried to look for him and found him on the far side of the yacht talking to someone on the phone.
Samantha did not intend to listen to his conversation, and she would have walked if she did not hear the following sentence that Kyle said.
“ I love you, Angel. What happened last night is not a mistake, please call me back,”
Samantha’s world was shattered. She now understands the sad eyes and cold shoulders. She can’t even understand herself; she saw Kyle twice- this is just a second date -but why does it hurt so much?
Samantha hurried inside the comfort room again and locked the door. As usual, her silent cry is heard by no one- just as how it always happens in her life. Samantha cried over the thought that she wanted someone so bad for the first time in her life, and yet she cannot have her, or can’t she?
A thought entered Samantha’s mind, that thought was too strong, and it was absorbed by her heart. “I cannot lose him like this,” Samantha realizes that she has the upper hand, or else Kyle will not even be here with her. She wiped her tears, fixed her make-up, and came out of the comfort room backed with a mind that understands the situation and a selfish plan to tie someone who loves someone else.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” Samantha said to Kyle with a smile. Hiding the pain that is pinching her heart at this very moment.
“No worries, I have somewhere to be after this dinner….” Kyle said calmly, not thinking much about how the other person would feel.
“Oh, no worries, I also have things to do,” Samantha smiled. She is good at this, keeping her feelings and intentions to herself just like a good girl. But today, she decided to let that good girl concept become a two-face enemy you never want to mess with.
