Chapter 53: Chapter 53

Chapter Fifty - Three

James

"Tomorrow" Came a voice out of nowhere. I closed my eyes and let out a frustrated sigh. I recognised the voice.

Elijah.

But then his words struck me and a new wave of anxiety creeped inside me. He said "Tomorrow."

Michael and I stood up simultaneously and looked at him with shock.

"Tomorrow?" Michael asked.

"Yes, tomorrow." Elijah replied. Michael and I looked at each other and then to Linda. Linda's face was devoid of any emotions. Both of us moved in a sink and connected our minds with Elijah's.

"Let's talk outside." I told Elijah.

"Why?" Elijah asked.

"Because we need to talk to you about something that can't be said in front of her." Michael replied to him.

"We will be right back." I told Linda and moved outside the room. We walked until we were a good distance away from her room before speaking.

"You can't give her death sentence." Michael told him.

"Uh huh. And Why is that?" He asked. For a second, I was rendered speechless. Yeah, why? After all, she was the culprit behind all this. She was a betrayer who helped our enemy to kill our pack. And I was not sure that she even regretted that decision.

"Because she helped in saving our pack members from her own clan's attack." I told him. At this moment I was ready to throw any baseless argument to stop this thing.

"They would not have needed saving if she didn't put them into that danger in the first place." Elijah retorted.

Damn it. He had a point there. He was right. She was the reason for all of this to begin with. What was the point of saving them when she was the one to expose them to that situation in the first place.

"And anyway, this is not solely my decision. When I told them about the return of Adan and asked them about how to punish her. They all replied with Death sentence, being the right decision. We don't have any use of her now. Adan and the rest of the others had returned so there is no point in keeping her alive. If you think about keeping her alive to use her as bait for her master, then you should remember that he left her there all alone in the first place." He explained to us. Pushing his hands in his pocket, he shrugged.

"All in the Alpha Council are pretty adamant on this decision. So I had to accept it." He told us.

"Maybe it was because you never put enough effort to start with." Michael snapped. Elijah snarled at him back.

"So damn right you are! And why should I? Why should I put any effort to stop any of this? And Why are you even defending her? Why should I stop anyone from killing her? She Is the reason for your whole pack dying. She Is the reason that you might not have any future generations. And most of all she is the REASON why your Dad DIED. Because she poisoned him. And you are defending Her?" He asked in an angry voice. His voice was filled with disbelief.

Elijah had hit the nail on the head. He destroyed every point in a single go. How were we supposed to cut through that argument? And especially when he was Right. How could we forget that she killed our Father. And not only our father but Cary as well. And what about the death of every man who died while saving our pack.

From our own damn Mate.

I swallowed hard. Because I had no arguments or points to prove him wrong.

"We still want to have a meeting with the Alpha Council." I told him. I raised my hand and stopped Elijah from protesting. This time I spoke like an Alpha. My voice heavy with dominance and power.

"As the next Alphas, we demand an official Council meeting. You know the rules here. If any Alpha wants to conduct an official meeting then, you can't deny that. You have to comply with that." I told him. Elijah clenched his jaw and looked a little stricken with my demeanour. Reluctantly, he called a guard and told him to invite every Alpha for our official meeting. Which would be held in an hour. With that, he disappeared from our few, still fuming with rage.

"Do you have an answer to his question?" Michael asked me, looking dead in the eye.

"Why do we want to save her even after everything she did?" He questioned. I tore my gaze from his face and grinded my teeth. I had no answer to that question. Well, not a real one.

"Because we took an oath that we will keep her safe. No matter what." I told him.

"You do know that, that answer would mean nothing to other Alphas of the council. Especially after they witnessed the massacre she caused." He replied. I grew irritated with his questioning and finally snapped.

"So what do you think we should do? Let her die? Leave her at the mercy of the council. And what was the point of saving her from dying before, if we were going to let her die soon again? You do know that she was actually a victim of the circumstances. Just like every single one of us?" I asked. Michael hands clenched into fists.

"Fine. Go and take a bath. We will meet directly in the meeting." He told me before he, too, stormed off. Leaving me all alone.

I did as he told me. I bathed. In what felt like centuries and freshened up. After changing clothes, I walked towards the Council meeting room. There I found Michael standing outside in fresh clothes.

"Ready?" He asked.

"Yeah. Let's do this." I answered and then we both walked inside. Everything was just as we last remembered.

"Everybody knows why we are here. So let's skip pleasantries and get to the point." Elijah announced as a way of greeting. Michael darted a look at me and I nodded.

"I think we should not give her death sentence." He said out loud. Nobody moved or said anything. Like, they all seemed to know that we were going to ask for her life.

"And why should we do that?" One of the Alphas asked. Everyone turned their whole attention to us, waiting for our answers.

"Because she saved people from our pack while going against her own clan and betraying them. Not only did she kill them but also helped our pack to hide from the killing. She told us the reason behind all this war." I told them. Elijah rolled his eyes. Probably tired of hearing our same lame argument.

"Who is it talking, Michael? You or your mate bond?" Another alpha asked. I sucked in a breath at his question.

"Don't tell me that your all 'we - should - not - give - her - death - sentence' is not about your connection to her. Because all of us here know that it won't be true." He fired at us.

"It is not only about that..." I said in a low voice when another Alpha.

"If any of you have a valid reason for summoning us and wasting our valuable time, then say it. Otherwise, not only are you trying in vain and wasting our time but also you are wasting your time. You should spend the last few hours with your mate. For as long as she lives. If not, then that's your choice but you will regret it later. Just a piece of advice." He told us in a casual tone. My anger flared at his words. I took a threatening step forward but Michael's voice stopped me from doing anything stupid.

"Control yourself." His voice boomed in my head and I did.

One other Alpha sighed out loudly and stood.

"It's obvious from their expressions that they don't have any valid point. So let us end this session here." He said out loud.

"Wait, listen to us..." Michael said but was cut off from Alpha Elijah.

"Do you want to avenge your dad's death? Do you want justice for him?" He asked us. Our silence was his answer. He nodded in an encouraging way.

"So she has to die." He told us.

"She will die for the death of your father, your men, their family, friends and everyone she directly or indirectly hurt. She will pay for it all. And, both of you should know that now that this matter is not only about you. It is about all of us. We will lose face and appear weak in front of our enemy if we let her go just like that. Killing her would send a direct message to everyone, that whoever tries to mess with us will suffer the severe consequences." He told us before filing out of the room. Everyone in the room followed his lead and walked out of the room.

The meeting was over even before it started. Now, I knew for sure that no matter what we try to save her, we will fail. If the council was so adamant on killing Linda then they will. There was nothing we could do to stop it.

"Fuck!" Michael let out a curse.

"Now, what do we do?" He asked. I gave him an almost helpless look.

"There's nothing we could do now." I told him. He looked at me in disbelief.

"So you're just giving up?" He asked me.

"What option do we have? Do you have some sort of way to get her out of this situation?" I questioned him. He looked away, looking almost angry, before looking back at me.

"So what do we do now?" He asked me. I pursed my lips. Like I knew.

"What we can do. Spent the last hours of her life with her." I told him. He gave me an almost wild look before shaking his head.

"You are right. That's the only thing we could do for her at the moment." He said and we glanced away from each other.

So that was what we were going to do today.
