Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Chapter Forty — Six
Linda
The last time I saw Elijah was a long time ago. Even though the room was just as dark as the last time, I knew that the whole day had passed.
I did not know the exact time, but it was certainly midnight. At the moment, the time must be around somewhere one to four.
This whole time, I tried my best to stay alert, listening for any sound, looking for any movement, but soon I came to realize that nobody was coming. So I let down my guards for a while. Having no one to talk to while sitting in the silent room had me remembering everything that had happened.
My memories reeled back to the days that I met the twins. Two little boys butted in to save what they assumed was a damsel in distress.
My lips tucked up in a smirk.
The incident was spontaneous.
I remembered the four of those idiots started to chase me. Stupid enough to think that they had a chance with me. I could have torn them apart, skinned them alive and would have gifted them to our clan's kids to play with, but then I smelt something.
A very distinct smell.
An odor of an Alpha.
But there was something different about it.
I felt this pull that I had never felt before. And something interesting came into my mind. Something about me being linked to a wolf and using it to my clan's advantage and revenge. And I took the opportunity and decided to test it.
The rest was history.
The sound of someone's footsteps coming my way, had me jerking in alert. The sound increased as the person came closer and closer to me.
However, soon I realized that the footsteps were coming from two separate people. I closed my eyes and shut them tightly.
James and Michael were here.
I could feel their presence, inhale their smell and feel them in my every being.
A current spread through my veins.
I smiled.
“Long time no see. James. Michael.” I said and opened my eyes.
There they stood.
Both of them.
Side by side, looking down at me without any expression on their faces. I did not know what I was expecting. Hate. Disgust. Fury. Burning desire for revenge?
But their faces showed nothing.
Seeing their completely blank faces evoked an itch inside me. I wanted some sort of reaction.
Pain. Hurt. Betrayal. Violence.
Or even the intense feeling to hurt me, but I saw none. They said nothing. They did not move an inch. Just stared at me like I was a statue. Something without any life in it.
So I decided. I was going to get a reaction out of them. By hook or crook. Through desire or through their worst pain.
“So you still want me or did you start to hate me after I killed your whole pack?” I asked with a smirk on my face.
Again. Nothing.
Oh, come on!
None of them moved or even twitched at the mention of their pack members getting killed.
For some odd reason, I grew nervous.
I had just pinched the weakest nerve of theirs, so why were they not doing anything?
I raised a brow while maintaining my mask to hide my feelings.
“What? Lost the sense of speaking?” I questioned. My eyes noticing any sudden movement from any of them.
This time my question did manage to get a response out of them.
However, a weird one.
Michael reached out and twirled a strand of my hair around his finger.
“You still are pretty.” He said aloud and, even without intending to, my eyes widened a bit as my eyebrows shot up in surprise at his statement.
Did he lose his mind?
Did losing his pack members have some sort of weird impact on him? His eyes darted to mine and for a few seconds we held each other's stare like that for a while.
Until I came back to my senses and realized that instead of giving me a reaction, he had gotten one from me. His fingers left my hair and traced my lower lip slowly.
“Very pretty.” He said. He looked a little crazy when he said it. Then he traced my cheek.
“I wonder how it would look when I would completely scar it.” He said. A shiver ran down my spine.
Not because I was or his words were frightening but because never in my time living with him, had I thought that I would hear these words from him.
He stared me dead in the eyes. James petted Michael's shoulder before smirking at me.
“We will know soon.” James told Michael while looking at me.
My heart hammered inside my chest. Was he implying something? Were they going to kill me?
Of course, they would kill me.
What did I even expect? After I killed all of their family members and pack, how could they let me go? It was a thing that was bound to happen. I just realized that it would happen this soon.
“But first, I have a question. Where is Adan and the rest of the group that was with him? We still could not find them. Where are they?” Michael questioned me after straightening beside his brother.
I swallowed subtly.
Adan.
“Last time I communicated with Adan it was through the mind link. He had told us to come at the hidden passageway, because that was where he had hidden the rest of the people, but we could not find him. He was with a group of people which included our pack's women, kids and elders. We still don't have a single hint about their position. Where are they?” James asked. I did not respond, so James folded his arms around his chest. He gave a look to Michael and I saw an understanding passing through them.
Michael turned to me.
“I know that you know where they are. So tell me.” He asked in a tight voice.
I did not answer and closed off my whole face's expressions that might give away any clue.
Out of the blue, a hard, tight and biting slap landed on my face. Leaving the burning sensation on my cheek.
At first, I was shaken and the pain did not register but when it did, I bit the inside of my cheek hard, so that I did not let out any sound.
Of pain or discomfort or whatever.
“Tell us.” Michael growled as he got on to my face. His voice was hard and cold.
I did not speak a single word. Nor did a single sound left from my mouth. I had endured so much worse than this.
I would have to endure way much worse than this. There was too much about to come.
Suddenly, I felt a warm liquid pouring out of my nose and lip. I had a cut on my lip and my nose was bleeding, I realized.
My hand wanted to touch it, but my hands were tied behind my back.
I looked at Michael and saw his eyes fixating on the blood.
He looked guilty, regretful and in... pain?
To double-check if I saw the expression right, I looked at James. To see if he saw what I saw on Michael's face but to my surprise he looked in pain too.
James caught my eyes and hardened his expressions. He placed a hand on Michael's shoulder but said nothing, but I knew that they were communicating through a mind link.
Maybe not wanting me to know what they were talking about.
All of a sudden, Michael cursed under his breath and stood up in a hurry. He turned around and left. James gave me a look, but soon he left after him.
Without any final words.
