Chapter 43: Chapter 43
Chapter Forty - Three
James POV
Linda's last warning was the last time that I spoke. Not because I was scared or nervous that she would make good on her words but because I realized that there was no point in speaking to her and asking about any questions. Especially because I knew that the end was going to be just the same, in me being dead. But also because I knew she would not answer any of the questions at the moment. Her annoyance towards me was palpable. It was obvious that she would hold her quiet until she felt like talking.
So I did not even bother now.
Instead, I tried to comprehend what the hell happened back there. It was Alpha Council. There was no doubt that it was Alpha Council. Everyone possible that I knew from the council was there, when they broke inside.
A series of questions flooded in my head.
How did the Alpha Council know about us?
Who alerted them about our situations?
Father's death was not a long time ago, or was it?
How much time had passed?
Still, the most important question that was making me think was about the fact that they knew about the hidden passageway.
How?
When did that happen?
I recognized everyone.
Everyone.
Although, there was one person that I noticed, Alpha Elijah.
He was in the center of the whole council, most likely leading them inside to fight. And for the first time in my life I was glad that I saw his ugly face. To be very honest, I never liked him. Never did. Whether it was because of his ugly face, or his rotten behavior, or his personality. More specifically, when he tried to downplay the grave situations around us.
But now when I saw his face, I felt nothing but relief. Very awkwardly, watching his I felt a sudden sense of affinity. This situation was giving me mixed feelings.
It was all weird.
How the hell did this life become so unpredictable? From us getting attacked to us getting kidnapped, betrayed, and then being rescued. At least, Michael did.
I hope.
Or today will be the death of all of us.
Not to mention that every pack's alpha was here. A pack could not work without its leader.
Linda navigated me through darkness. Clutching me by my arm like I was a child who could not walk without guidance. It would have annoyed me if I was not in the situation that I was in.
I mean, I was really in the most serious and most ridiculous situation I could be in.
All of a sudden, Linda halted to a stop. Making me stop with a jerk. Her whole body tensed and my own body filled with alertness. My eyes focused and I listened carefully. Linda did the same. Linda's hand tightened on my arm, squeezing a little.
Then a little crack in the distance.
I heard it too.
Linda's eyes scanned the whole parameter, searching for the source of the voice.
I stopped with her and listened carefully for that voice, again. All of a sudden, I was pulled down. My back collided with Linda's front, and she covered my mouth.
My long body twisted at an awkward angle to manage to fit Linda's small figure. Her warm breath hit my neck. I tried to speak, but a voice came out, what sounded like a gargle, because it was muffled with Linda's hand.
“Shuu...” She hissed. Then we both waited in anticipation for the source of the voice to appear in front of us.
In my heart, I hoped it to be from one of our pack members, but I also knew that it was too good to be true. Also, even if it did turn out to be one of our pack then, I hardly think that they could take on Linda. Especially, when I could not help them. They might be surprised to even see her there. However, it just seemed like a longing hope because I didn't even know there was anyone left from our pack. For just a second, my eyes darted to Linda's, trying to figure out if she figured out what I was thinking. Though, when I looked at her, she did not look at me. Instead, her full attention was focused on the sound, trying to figure out where it was coming from. Maybe, she felt my gaze because her eyes flickered to mine. For just a flying second, I thought I saw worry in her eyes.
For me or for the situation, I did not know. Still, I think it was because of the situation. She could not probably be worried about me, she was going to snap my head just a few seconds ago.
After waiting for a few seconds, it happened.
A rustling sound came from our left and I saw who made the sound.
A snake appeared in front of us. I sighed in disappointment. Simultaneously, Linda's body behind me relaxes as I assume the tension left her body.
Without even intending to, I became aware about her body against mine. Her breasts were pressed up against my back and I remembered how soft her skin was. How good her touch felt. Like fresh air and warm sun.
Like the whisper of love.
The closeness between us put all the wrong ideas in my mind.
What would happen if I turned around, slammed her against the wall and started kissing her madly?
How would she feel?
Will she taste exactly the same as she tasted before?
Or would her taste be different?
Will she fight me or give herself to the sensation and forget about everything for the moment, letting me have her?
I swallowed hard, feeling my heartbeat increasing as my thoughts turned wild.
I felt stupid for feeling that. Even knowing what she had done and would have done, I could not seem to stop myself. It was hard to. Especially when I could feel every inch of her skin behind me.
“Don't you even dare. I know what you are thinking. If you move...”
She said, but I interrupted her with my next question.
“Why not? Just for one last time.” I said. My voice came out a little rough. I felt Linda shiver and I took that as a good sign. Very slowly, I turned around. Trying not to break the trance that I had created between us. At first, Linda's hand tightened on mine, but then it relaxed. I turned around. Coming face to face with her.
She looked at me with hooded eyes. I slowly leaned closer to her and kissed her on the cheek.
Softly.
So softly.
Then I kissed her on the corner of her mouth. Finally, I moved in to kiss her on the lips, but I was thrown into the wall.
I looked at her as air left my lungs. She pressed her leg down on the snake that we had seen earlier that now was in the place where I was standing just a few seconds ago.
As the heels of Linda's sandals dug into the snake, it hissed. And shot its head to bite her but Linda caught it, by its head, in the middle of its act and flung it to the far side of the way.
That being done, she turned to me. Without a word, she grabbed me by the arm and pulled me up.
“Linda, I...” I stopped when she put a finger on her lips.
“Shuu...” She shushed me.
“Not a word now. I Mean it.” She told me in a cold voice. That was the last time we spoke until I saw the end of the tunnel approaching.
“We are here.” I said in a low voice. Linda let off my arms and pressed on one rock when an entrance opened.
And boom.
