Chapter Sixteen

Michael's POV

Finally, the time was here. I had spent the last six hours making arrangements for this party. Of course, my not so very nice brother helped me in it, but he had also stirred up trouble, to no surprise. Obviously, he could not leave an opportunity to trouble me in my work.

Every time, I asked someone to help me with setting up the tables, he would always, I always mean without missing a beat, call them to help him somewhere else. Just so he could irritate me.

He had fun with Janet and so did I wanted to do too. But, when I called her, she was nowhere to be found. I'm pretty sure it was his doing. He made her leave somewhere, so that she stayed away from me. Not that it matters now.

After that, I got so busy at work that I forgot about everything else. I was so engrossed in work that I didn't even check on Linda. I did not know if she was doing fine or if she needed anything.

Today, in the morning when James left after Janet, I pursued Linda in coming to the prom. At first, she was really adamant in not attending the event. However, when I told her that we won't officially introduce her as our mate to everyone, she agreed. It was such a relief. Although, I still don't get why she did not want to be introduced as our mate? It's not she isn't. Maybe because it is all so known for her or maybe because she might have felt awkward. Whatever it is, she had to accept it though. Now or later. After all, she is staying with me forever now.

I guess we will see in the future.

What I did not tell her was that everyone already knew who she was.

Her name was enough to know who she was and who she belonged to. But if she attends this event no one will directly ask her about it. If they are smart enough.

The event was going to take place on the outer side of the field. Where all the dance and drinks was. Everything had been set in such a manner that if all packs were going to attend this party this place won't get crowded. Bright lights were everywhere. The bar had been set with the most famous and pricy liquors. I hired many people to serve so that nobody faced any sort of trouble.

Everything was done and it was also time for me to shower and change. So I walked into the bedroom. Picked a towel and walked straight inside the bathroom. I hung it on the rail and took off my clothes. When I was completely naked, I looked at myself in the mirror.

I had muscles off a refined man. My six packs and my biceps showed the strength in my body. My blonde hair was messy. The blue eyes that stared back at me looked lethal. It was everything that an Alpha should look like. I admired my body a little more.

But eventually, I started the shower and stepped inside it. After showering, I picked up a white shirt and black coat. I wore it with black jeans. I put some gel in my hand and smoothen my wet hair. For the last time, I looked at myself in the mirror.

And I must say, from top to bottom, I looked like the real definition of perfect.

Finally, satisfied with myself, I walked out of the room and headed towards the guest bedroom. Where Linda was. When I got closer to the door, I heard murmurs. At the voice my ears perked up and I let out a small growl. My steps became quicker and I fastened my speed. I knew what I was going to find in it. I just knew it.

I opened the door and saw what I was expecting.

James and Linda together.

Linda was holding her hairs up while James was locking a necklace on her neck. When they heard the door open, both of them turned around to look at me. Linda let her hair fall down and James stuffed his hands in his pockets. Smirking at me.

My hands clenched on their own and a vein twitched in my head, while I glared at him.

This fucker.

“You are here. Linda was just asking about you.” He said, still smirking.

My eyes darted towards Linda's, and she gave me a sweet smile. It was a sweet, sweet smile. Hence, only because of her and her pure smile, I subdued my anger down and I smiled back at her.

She was wearing a Black Layered Bow Dress that came to her knees. It was one shoulder dress which gave me the full view of her one shoulder and her creamy skin. Her blonde hair looked amazing. She had tied two strands of her hair in the middle of the back of her head, letting the rest of the hair fall on her shoulders. She was wearing black heels as well. And to say the least, she looked amazing. Only when I saw a small pendant necklace on her neck that I frowned.

“Do I look okay?” She asked, looking mildly self-conscious at my scrutinizing gaze. I swept my frown off my face and gave her my best smile.

“You look amazing, baby.” I told her. The look of self — consciousness on her face was suddenly replaced by a look of gratitude. James kissed her on the cheek and my eyes turned cold.

“I told you that you look amazing. Everybody's eyes will be on you. And you might upset some women by being the most beautiful girl in the event.” He said. I wanted to roll my eyes at his cheesy lines. However, he was right. She would upset many women by the looks of her. I had to keep a close eye on her. I walked up to her and kissed the other cheek of her face. And she blushed. I rubbed her cheek and felt someone glaring at me. Just as I was expecting, James was staring at my hand on her cheek. I retreated my hand and grinned at him. I just got after him for his cheek moves.

Karma.

“And now, you made our work hard.” I said. She looked at James with a questioning look, and he chuckled.

“How?” She asked.

“Now, we had to fight off every present male species, so that they don't steal our girl.” I said. I wanted to say my girl but it would sour the mood for everyone, so I kept it in.

Now that my focus shifted, I saw what James was wearing. He was also wearing a white shirt like me, but he had a pair of blue jeans and brown coat on, unlike me. Even though I was reluctant, I had to say that he looked... good. Yeah, just good.

Seeing Linda wearing his gifted necklace I felt annoyed. I should have given her something too but I did not think about it before. Hence, I don't have anything on me to give her as a gift.

I wondered how I looked in Linda's eyes. I mean deep down, I knew that I was looking good but didn't know if she liked it or not.

I extended my elbow to her and James did the same.

“Allow us the pleasure to escort you to the event.” I said. Slightly, she shook her head but entwined her arm with mine and James'. We started leaving her out of the room, but she stopped us in the middle. Concerned flashed in and out of my head. Hoping, she would not deny coming with us at the last moment.

James and I looked at her. She chuckled then smiled at both of us.

“Ahh, I forgot to tell you both.” She said and James and I exchanged glances with each other.

“You two look really handsome.” She said and a smile erupted on mine and James's face.

“Thank you so much. I will keep that compliment in my heart, forever.” James said. I almost snarled at his quickness. Instead, I said the same thing to her.

“Me too. Thank you for your compliment.” I said and we all moved towards the party.

When we entered the place we saw almost every alpha from different packs there. There were our members of the pack and others. The music was loud but not loud enough to shatter our eardrums. People were scattered across the place, as wide as it goes.

When we entered, I saw some very familiar faces who turned to look at us. Feeling so many eyes, Linda retracted her arms and gave us an apologetic look. Although, I had the impulse to grab it and put it back but I forced myself not to. I restrained the impulse and plastered a smile. I nodded my head and she returned me a smile.

“Bring her here.” I heard dad's voice calling us from the mind link. He connected his mind link with both James and I. In a far corner of the bar, I saw him. I gave him a nod and knew that he saw me.

“Okay.” James said through our connected mind link.

“Linda, let's go.” James said. We led her straight to our dad's direction. To my surprise, I saw Alpha Elijah with him. We slowly walked and stopped in front of them.

Alpha Elijah darted a glance towards Linda but quickly looked away. Then he greeted us.

“Michael, James. It is so good to see you two.” He said. Internally, I wanted to puke just because I saw his ugly face but from outside I looked pleasant enough.

“Alpha Elijah.” I said and bowed to him to show some respect that I don't have. James did the same and as far as I knew him, he was thinking the same.

“How are you?” I asked him. He grinned and nodded his head.

“I'm good.” He said but I knew his full attention was on Linda. Assessing her in a subtle manner. Finally, he turned to Linda.

“And who this beautiful lady is?” He asked us. Like he had just noticed her.

Before I could even say or do anything, Linda extended her hand for a handshake and said, “I'm Linda Thomas. And you are?” She asked. I knew that her action had surprised the ugly — face, but he skillfully hid his expressions and gracefully extended his hand and took her hand in his. Instead of shaking her hand, he brought it to his mouth and kissed it.

I clenched my teeth so hard from stopping myself into snapping his head in two pieces, that I was surprised it did not shatter. I saw James hand twitching. Instantly, I connected my mind link with his and warned him.

“Don't do it.” I said in a firm voice. From my peripheral vision, I saw him clenching his fist and going visibly still from attacking this idiot. When I looked at Alpha Elijah, he was grinning at us.

That fucker did it on purpose.

I also clenched my fist and released it. It helped me in calming down a little.

Between all my reaction to that ugly — face, I did not notice how Linda had twisted in discomfort.

I placed my hand on her back. Assuring her about our presence.

All the while, Dad just stood there observing the scene. Smirking in amusement.

“It's a pleasure to meet you, Linda.” Alpha Elijah said. I glanced at Linda and internally sighed.

The night had just begun. Who knew how many surprises there would be.
