Chapter 20: Chapter 20

I stared at him, then slowly licked my lower lip. "I don't know whether to laugh or be annoyed by your stupidity, Zachary," I stated and stepped back.

"Is what I did really hurt your ego that much, Atasha?" he asked, the frustration in his eyes faded.

What? Ego?

I scoffed. "Is it really my ego that is being stepped on here? Who is chasing after my baby because he knows he will have a hard time impregnating his fiancee?" My eyes scanned him from head to toe, definitely telling him that I was disgusted and pissed. "You, Zachary? Can't your pride take it anymore to swallow everything just to get what you want? Are you slowly going crazy?" I chuckled mockingly.

His jaw tightened quickly. I know I hit him with my words. The expression on his face was clear now.

"Aren't we just the same? Aren't you also desperate for revenge because I will marry your sister? You ruined my name, you ruined our marriage, and you ruined your father's image. Your ego ate you up so much that you were able to destroy everything, Atas—"

My hard slap made him stop talking. His cheeks were red, and I could almost see every line of my fingers there. He glared at me.

"How dare you say all that in front of me?" I said firmly and clenched my palms in anger. "We are not the same, Zachary. You had a relationship with my sister for your own happiness. While I did all that to make you feel your karma."

He smirked mockingly. "Karma," he uttered. "Who are you to give me that?"

My teeth gritted quickly at what he said. I wanted to slap him again, but I controlled myself. I didn't even bother to argue anymore because, first of all, I didn't plan to make his little mind understand what I was doing. What I want for him is to suffer.

"Just leave, Zachary. It won't be good for me and my baby to see you," I said without emotion, and then turned my back against him.

I didn't continue to go out; instead, I walked back to the bed and laid there without looking at him. I tried to ignore his presence, even though I knew he stayed in his place. Not leaving, not moving.

"I will stay here," he said after a few seconds.

I closed my eyes and frowned. I heard his footsteps approaching in my direction, so I was slightly alarmed. My jaw dropped when I felt the bed sink. I was about to argue with him when I was stunned by what he did next. I slowly opened my eyes and looked down to stare at his hand holding my stomach.

"I changed my mind. I will stay here to watch over you," he murmured.

I got goosbumps when I felt his hot breath on my ear. "And our baby," he added hoarsely.

If I didn't know him, I would think he was crazy. "Leave, Zachary. I don't want to see you."

I stiffened in my bed when I felt him move to my back. His hand quickly wrapped around my waist, not giving me a chance to escape. I heard him chuckle as I felt him lick his lips against my neck.

"Now that you're pregnant, you don't want to see me." There was something unusual in his tone. "Whereas when you entered my class, you always wanted me to make love to you. Is that a pregnancy hormone?"

Since when did I ask him to make love to me? As far as I remember, what I wanted was fvcking.

I was about to get up, but his grip tightened around my waist. "Stay," he commanded in a low, raspy voice. "If you don't want to forget the past, then to hell with that. Let's both live with your anger."

"You're crazy," I said coldly.

I was stunned when he pulled me closer to him. "Yes, I've gone mad and desperate. I don't care. The important thing is that I'm the one who got..." he paused for a moment, "you pregnant."

I don't know why my heart beats faster when he said that. It's like there's something in his tone that I need to prepare for. A severe trap that I need to escape.

Two days passed, and he never left my sight. At first, I gave him cold shoulders. I ignored him every time he bothered me or talked to me, but when I realized that I could use this time for my revenge, an idea came to my mind.

It's 1 o'clock in the morning. I got up and kicked him in the leg, causing him to wake up. I watched him get up from lying on the floor without emotion.

"Atasha? Is there a problem?" he asked with his half-opened eyes.

I even saw him peeking at the side of my bed, where Angel was sleeping soundly. He must be thinking that the kitten is the reason I woke him up. Yes, she was already discharged.

"I want some grilled instestine," I said.

"You want what?" he asked, confused.

He rubbed his eyes for a moment and focused his full attention on me.

"I said I wanted grilled chicken intestine, Zachary," I repeated.

His lips parted, and he glanced at his wrist watch for a moment. "At this time?" he asked in disbelief. "Baby, there's no grill restaurant open at this time."

I frowned and looked away. I don't know if it's because he doesn't understand what's coming out of his mouth now or if he's just trying to make me fall into his trap. I just chose to ignore it and lie down again. I turned my back on him.

"My baby wants it," I said simply, closing my eyes.

I didn't immediately feel him act, so I looked at him for a moment. He was staring at me. There was an unreadable emotion in his eyes. I thought he would argue with me or just ignore what I said. I was surprised when, after looking at me for a few seconds, he stood up silently.

"Anything else?" he asked, and this time there was a slight softness in his voice.

I looked away again and then returned to my back. "That's it. Go ahead," I ordered without emotion.

I heard the rustle of his key resting on top of the nightstand. I thought he was going to leave, but I caught my breath when he sat behind me. From the corner of my eyes, I saw his observation. Later, I was alarmed when he slowly bent down; it was too late for me to avoid his lips touching my forehead.

"I'll be back. Go back to sleep; I'll wake you up when I get back," he said sweetly before standing up and leaving our room.

I just clenched my hands and tried to put what he did out of my mind.

This is a tough fight with a veteran manipulator, Atasha. Keep your walls high and strong.
