Chapter 77: Chapter 77
“You know I love your boldness, Lynn!” Liam’s mother speaks; we are preparing lunch. Liam is at work, but he just called to inform me that he was dropping me off for lunch and then going back to work.
“Life has taught me to be bold, Mrs. Adams. I would have lost this battle a long time ago if I wasn’t strong.” I respond.
“Keep the spirit, dear. I am glad that Liam will have a woman like you by his side all his life. And I am so sorry for not approving of you before. Please forgive me, dear. I robbed you and Liam of such a good and peaceful life.” She adds.
These past four days have been nothing but bliss. I am still at the top of the game with that bitch, Mitchell Edwards. She must be hissing in one of the corners of her room, crying her eyes out. Crying has become her signature thing.
And this woman. She has changed so much. She never leaves my side, especially if Liam is not around. Our relationship has taken a turn that I did not anticipate it would take. If I wasn’t stubborn, I would have already been obese with all her pampering in the name of wanting my grandchild to be born healthy. All the anger I have always felt toward her has melted.
“Forget the past, Mrs. Adams. All that is behind us now. Besides, if we talk about it, your grandchild will overhear us; you don’t want the little angel to hate, right?” I tease, and yes. In case you are wondering, this is how free and friendly you have become.
“You are right about that. I will not be able to bear it if the kid hates me. By the way, do you people know the gender so that I can start shopping already?” She asks curiously. You should see the grin on her face. She is really getting the kick out of this baby. I would wonder how much more thrill she will sample when she learns it does not carry the genes of this bitch.
“No. And I don’t think I would tell you even if I knew. I want it to be a surprise, so relax.” I say.
“Well, okay. As you wish. But I will shop anyway. How do you say if we pass by the mall on your next check-up?” She asks.
Now, I would be a real bitch if I could deny her that. I have no reason to, and I have no wish to. “Okay.” I state.
“Thank you. So, let me go set the table. I am sure Liam will be here any minute from now. And by the way, where is that princess of the Edwards again?” She asks.
“She must be cooked up in a corner somewhere. Leave her be. I am sure she is fine.” I state. That woman is at the top of the list of things I don’t care about in this life at all. The only thing I wouldn’t want to happen is for her to die in this house or in my hands. Otherwise, her tears mean absolutely nothing to me. Even if she cried real blood instead of tears, I would still not be bothered.
“You are a little beast. Don't you feel for her?” She asks.
“Feel for her? She didn’t feel for me when she almost starved me to death in this house. She did not show any concern as she watched me roll down the stairs with my unborn baby. And those are just a few on the list. I don’t feel any pity for her.” I state this genuinely. Not even in a million years.
"You are serving her a nice dose. Let me set the table.” She says this and walks out.
Just then, the she-devil strides in with her face puffy and wet. And I was right. She must have been crying. I look at her sore hands. I made her do the handwashing. Yeah, I had the washing disconnected, and this bitch has suffered like hell washing clothes. Still, I don’t care at all.
“I don’t care where you have been, but the dishes are waiting for you.” I state. I don’t even bother looking at her.
“Don’t you have any mercy? Look at my hands. How do you expect me to touch water with them like this?” She cries.
Now I had to turn to her. Mercy? “Mercy? For you? Never in a million years. And those hands, do whatever you want with them, but make sure all the chores are done by sunset.” I state.
“Can I at least have something to eat first?"
Excuse me? “Yes, if you manage to make something eatable for your stomach. Everything you need to cook is in this house. I mean, not that mean. So, sort yourself.” I say, the same time I head to Liam’s car pulling up at the parking.
I park everything in the tray and leave the lazy bitch to deal with her sentiments. Food for my foot! She can eat whatever she wants, but not anything that I have made myself.
I set the tray on the table with the help of Liam’s mother, and just in time, Liam walks in, dazzling in his office wear.
He greets us.
“You are right on time. Sit. Let’s eat.” I will say when we are done with the formalities.
We settle down. “Umh. I have something to tell you, Lynn.” He says this as his mother serves the food.
“What is it?” I ask.
“I hired someone to keep watch over your house back at home.” He says.
This man does so much. He saved from the debts by paying my mortgage and taking back the title deed from the bank. And he even went the extra mile to have someone watch over our house. He is such a darling. I still don’t know what I will ever do for this man to repay him for all that he has done for me. Sometimes I even wonder whether my love alone is enough.
“You didn’t have to go through all that trouble, Liam. I am sure it would have been safe, but thank you so much.” I explain, reaching for his hand.
“The thing is, the person I hired has noticed something suspicious.” He adds.
“Something strange? Like what?” I curiously ask. What happened?
“It seems like there is someone who is staying in your house.”
Sorry, what is that? Someone broke into our hope and made it a dwelling place. Who has such nerves?
“Who is it?” I ask.
“We don’t know. He or she does not leave the house.” He says.
Oh my god! We may not have been rich, but I also know that I had sold a lot of things in the gabble to raise my mother’s hospital bill, but the little that I had left meant a lot to me. I have some strong sentiments about that house that I would not want anyone to tamper with. Who has the courage to break into our house?
“Is there a way we can find out?” I ask.
“I can have whoever it is to be arrested.” Liam says.
Good. That is good. “I want him brought to my face. I want to see the face of that person who has such nerves.” I state.
“Are you sure?” Liam asks.
"Yes," I replied boldly.
“Okay. But try not to stress over it too much, okay?” He pleads as he soothes my hand.
I should remain calm. In the middle of this? Yeah, right!
