Chapter 74: Chapter 74
I have always considered hospital nights to be the longest nights of my life. Expect this time around. I spent the night surrounded by two amazing people—the love of my life and her mother. Ooh, yes. None of our pleas for her to head home bore fruit. The woman is a turquoise gem. We spent a few hours talking and eating until I was so exhausted. They both tucked me under the duvet, and I am sure most of them talked until dawn.
I really enjoyed the company. I would have wished to stay until morning and savor more of last night, but my baby called me to retire to bed. It reminded me of those times my mother was with me. I felt like she was around me last night. But I know she is resting with angels, because that is exactly where she belongs, with the angels. But that jerk I had as a father, that coward—I doubt his soul will ever have rest when he departs from this earth. That is, if he is still alive. And if he is still walking in the face of this earth, then he better show his face to me forever.
“Good morning.” Liam greets as he walks in. I hadn’t even realized I was all alone in the room.
“Good morning. Where did your mother go?” I implore.
I hope she did not go for another basket of fruits and force it all on me again like yesterday. She made me eat like a buffalo, all in the name of ‘you are eating for two’.
“She is in the car waiting for us. I am done paying the bill and signing the discharge papers. We can leave if you are ready. That jerks me up from the bed in a flash. “Take it easy. Nobody is chasing you.” He says this, holding me still.
He does not know how much I hate hospitals. And the last time I slept in a hospital, it made me hate them even more. “I am excited to leave. Let's go?” I said as I slid on my saddles.
“Like that? You are not even going to ease yourself." He asks.
“No. I am okay.” I say, and out we go.
The drive is quiet, with Liam’s mother behind the wheel and Liam and I on the back. I am resting in his embrace, and I can’t fail to see how his mother is stealing glances at us through the driver’s mirror. But today, there are friendly gestures. She is even unable to hide her blush sometimes, and I have caught her smiling a couple of times. Maybe she is really this okay with this—seeing her son happy? Or the thrill of knowing that their mistake has not ruined their son completely and that they can break free from the Edward family. Whatever the reason, I am happy for her change. I am glad that she is finally warming up to me.
We drive through the gate. The hospital was quite a distance from here, but I commend Mrs. Adams for her driving skills. She is a beast on the pedal.
Stepping out, we are greeted by two unfamiliar cars. I stand in awe until Mrs. Adams speaks. “I thought you canceled last night’s dinner. Why is your father here? And this is Mr. Edward’s car. You didn’t tell me that you pushed the meeting to today morning.” She says.
This morning? We agreed to extend it until after a week. He could not have lied to me. “I didn’t. I told my father that it would hold until after a week.” Liam says, confused, as both me and his mother are.
“Then what is with?” I ask.
“That is what I also want to know. Let’s go in.” He says this, holding my hand and leading the way for us.
We stride inside and find the three Edward’s comfortably on the couch, and Liam’s father too. Their faces don’t look so welcoming. They look like they are about to explode, except for Liam’s father.
“Love? What is going on here?” Mrs. Adams asks as she hugs her husband.
While they exchange pleasantries and explanations, my eyes find Mitch, this whore that almost made me lose my child. The reason why the end of all this absurdity had to be postponed And she is shamelessly perched so comfortably and with her head held high after what she did. She even has the guts to challenge me with her sinister eyes.
She has the nerve! The audacity to wait for us so calmly and boldly I wonder what she told her parents. Or they did know what she was supposed to do.
“Aren’t you even going to greet us after making us wait the whole night, Liam Morgan Adams?” Mr. Edward speaks, summoning everyone to their feet as he starts to close in on Liam.
“I don’t remember asking anyone to wait. My message was crystal clear: The meeting will be scheduled for later.” Liam explained, still pinging me to his waist. He looks at his father. “Didn’t you tell them, father?” He adds.
His father shakes his head in a defeated manner. Like he is saying, I tried my best. “I clearly explained to them exactly what you told them, but they insisted on coming here and waiting for you. We all slept here waiting for you.” He explains.
They slept here. How impatient can they ever get? What was the urgency?
Liam scratches his eyebrow, fixing his eyes on this daring Mr. Edwards. “Mr. Edwards, I had given clear instructions, but you chose to do what you wanted. You don’t expect me to apologize for that.” He says this, aggravating this old man.
“And since when did the tables turn like this, Liam? Since when did you or your family start calling the shots here?” Mitchell’s father roars.
They clearly have no respect for Liam and his family at all. They see them as nothing but their lap dogs. Puppets who have no right to make any decision. Such crooked, evil people Ooh, well, it will not last for so long.
“Since your daughter almost killed Lynn and my unborn child, That is when the game changed completely, Mr. Edwards.” Liam says.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwards scan me from head to toe and up again to my face. “But I can’t even see a single scratch on her. Besides, my doctor said it was an accident, so stop making it look like she had a uterine motive. She would gain absolutely nothing from the death of this trash.” Mrs. Edward says it with disgust.
Accident, huh? My foot!
“It does not matter what it seems to you, but the fact is that I hold your daughter responsible. Until Lynn recovers from that shock and pain, I want you both out of my house. Wait for my call.” Liam says.
“You are forgetting what you signed, young man. This is not how things are supposed to be.” Mr. Edward says:
“Get out and do the worst that you think you can do, Mr. Edwards! I have made up my mind, and things will go my way.” Liam states.
The old man sighs in defeat, cruising his dangerous eyes around us one after another until he is satisfied. “You all don’t know what you are getting yourselves into. You will regret this very soon!” He fumes finally, then turns to her precious mini-monster. “Go get your things, my dear. I don’t think you will be safe here.” He states this, arousing my demons.
She what? That bitch cannot leave this house. Not just yet. She will do it when I say so. “This murderer is not setting foot out of this house!” I stopped Mitch as she was hiking to go get her trash. She had the nerve! Why is she in a hurry? She should have been bold like before and fought to stay back and feed us with more trouble.
“Excuse me? What did you say? Who even are you to open your stinking mouth in this house?” Mrs. Edwards speaks.
Oh, who am I?
