Chapter 57: Chapter 57
“This woman is here because your daughter refused to give me a child. Why, that is, is something I would love to know.” Liam states, turning to Mitch. “So, my loving wife? Why don’t you explain to everyone why you do not want to bear us a baby? Why? Do you have plans to leave someday? Is that why you don’t want something like a baby to tie us together?” Liam challenges.
Mitch and her parents swallow hard, while Mr. Adams and his wife assess the situation with a tinge of discombobulation. They must have sensed the riling beef, and they are wondering what the heck is happening.
“Well, I am your wife and not some baby-making machine, Liam. If I say I am not ready to make babies yet, you should not only understand but respect my decision as well. Unless there is a reason for your urgency to bear children?” Mitch fires back. The last part came out as a question as she glared at Liam.
A moment of silence.
This must be about that clause that Liam talked about. They are trying to see if he knows anything about it. Because he was not supposed to know. They know that that is where the deepest secret of this alignment lies—the secret that they will take everything from Adam's family when their plans succeed. And Mr. and Mrs. Adams are in utter darkness. But I guess with the way their eyes are moving from Liam to his wife and brushing past her parents, their brains are awakening. They can sense the smoke here.
“But, dear, it has been two years since you both got married. You should have considered having even just one kid by now.” Mrs. Adams says it softly and pleadingly. Funny how she is speaking with them with so much humility and yet attacking her own son like a fierce lioness.
“Well, I am not ready, Mrs. Adams. And no one should force me into something like that. And besides, your son went ahead and got his ex-pregnant. So why the fuss?” Mitch states.
He went ahead and got me pregnant. She got nervous!
“I did not just wake up and decide to get another woman pregnant, as you are insinuating, Miss Edwards. You and I had an agreement when you made it clear that you had plans to think about kids in the near future. You agreed to this, so do not make it look like I did this without your consent.” Liam states.
“Yes. But I did not ask you to go bring your whore into our house in the freaking name of being our surrogate.” She says. She never lacks anything to defend herself. But I think her tactics are so old and new. They are boring and sickening. She should craft some new ones.
“Well, she is the only person I could talk to about my reasons for wanting to have a surrogate while I had a young, fertile bitch for a wife who could bear me children. Desperation led me to Lynn, and I am not apologizing for that.” Liam speaks.
“Well, I think you had all this planned out from the start. You could have hired any other woman, but you had to go for this particular one. I am no fool, Liam.” She states.
“But Mitch, dear, this surrogacy thing should not have been brought up to start with. It is ridiculous! You should have been the one to give your husband a child, not some other woman.” Liam's mother states
Bingo! At least she has some sense. Finally. This bitch needs someone to put her in her place. Wake her up from her semblance of painting herself the saint on this whole thing, while she is indeed the sole reason for all these predicaments. Shameless bitch!
“I don’t appreciate how you are attacking my daughter, Mrs. Adams. Stop blaming her, because none of what has been said here justifies your son cheating on my daughter. That is why we are here, right?” Mrs. Edwards, Mitchelle’s mother, speaks.
Oh, that is why they are here? Because she fed them with nothing but lies, and they left their deluxe homes and busy schedules just to come and do this? What a total waste of time. I thought they were supposed to be sagacious people. Why did they let this witch waste their precious time unnecessarily? Goodness!
“My son has said that he has nothing to do with this woman aside from the surrogate child. And I believe both he and this woman know that nothing can ever exist between them. Am I right, son?” Mrs. Adam hisses, firing glares of hate towards me before resting them on her son.
Liam looks at her. He seems like he wants to pour out everything there is to know about us and this whole saga, but something so strong is holding him back. Something so strong and compelling. I understand him. I really do.
“His affection for that woman speaks a lot. We are not fools, Mrs. Adams, and neither were we born yesterday. I believe my daughter when she says these two are having an affair.” Mitch’s mother says
“Liam? Is there any kind of truth to what your wife is accusing you of?” His mother asks again.
Liam takes a deep sigh. He throws a glance at Mitch as he speaks. “No! I said that Lynn and I are not having an affair!” He states.
Mictch scoffs. “Bunch of white lies!”
“But my daughter cannot be making such accusations based on nothing. My daughter is not a liar! There ought to be something she has seen to come to this conclusion.” Mr. Edwards states:
Really? She is not a liar. Do these people really know their daughter at all?
“Young woman?” Liam’s mother snaps at me, staring at me with disgust. I was used to this look before, so I am not so unnerved. It makes me wonder if she will ever accept me if, at all, our love for her son surpasses all these odds. What will she do then? Will she ask for forgiveness and bury the hatchet? Or will it always be like this? “I know people like you don’t have morals, but I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, even just this once. I want to believe that you cannot be this shameless to destroy another woman’s hard-built home. So, I demand you tell me the truth. Are you sleeping with..."
