Chapter 48: Chapter 48

Sierra pov.

After we arrived at the castle, he gently lowered me to the ground, and my gaze immediately fell to the floor.

"Thank you," I murmured to him, my voice barely audible. Just as I was about to venture inside, he halted my progress, his firm grip enclosing my hands, drawing me closer.

"I don't want you in the basement anymore. I have prepared a room for you. I would like you to stay," he said with a determined tone, his eyes locked on mine.

As he uttered those words, I raised my eyes to meet his gaze, silently acknowledging his offer. With a nod, I turned and proceeded towards the entrance, his presence trailing behind me. My mind was filled with curiosity about the room he had prepared for me.

While we strolled through the corridors, we stumbled upon another door. He graciously swung it open, revealing a room of remarkable size. I was taken aback by its grandeur, and I couldn't help but direct my gaze towards him.

"Is this... my room?" I managed to utter, astonishment evident in my voice and expression.

Affirmatively, he nodded, stepping inside and turning to face me. His eyes conveyed a genuine desire to provide for me.

"There is an abundance of clothing in the wardrobe, along with shoes. If you need anything, simply inform me, and I will procure it for you," he explained, his voice gentle and attentive.

I glanced at him, unable to find the right words, and continued to explore the room, my eyes roaming in awe. The surrealness of the situation left me questioning whether it was reality or merely a dream.

As I turned my attention to William, uncertainty overwhelmed me, rendering me speechless. Should I express my gratitude or should I inquire further?

Approaching the bed, I cautiously lowered myself onto its plush surface, relishing the sensation of comfort that enveloped me. Glancing upwards, I noticed William's unwavering gaze upon me, causing me to avert my eyes, avoiding direct contact with his face.

"You can go now. I can take care of myself," I calmly uttered, my gaze gradually lifting to meet his. I observed the sorrowful expression in his eyes as he slowly approached me, taking a seat on the edge of the bed. Instinctively, I inched away, not wanting him to come any closer.

We sat there in silence, an uneasy atmosphere enveloping us. Sensing the discomfort, I rose to my feet, intending to walk away. However, I lost my footing, and before I knew it, he swiftly caught me, preventing me from falling. I found myself pressed against his chest.

Gazing into his eyes, I hesitated to pull away. My heart raced uncontrollably, defying any attempts to calm it.

Just as we settled into that position, a cough broke the stillness. Startled, I hastily disentangled myself and turned my gaze towards the door, where Alex stood, her eyes fixed on us.

"What is she doing here?" she demanded, her question directed at Williams. He remained silent, guiding me back to the bed and motioning for me to sit.

I glanced at Alex, perceiving the intense anger radiating from her. Williams stood, turning to face her.

"She will be staying here. Do not even think of troubling her," he declared, his voice laced with a chilling coldness. Each passing second, I could feel Alex's gaze pierce through me.

"I am your wife, Alpha, and she... she is just a maid, insignificant," she protested vehemently. I observed as Williams pulled Alex closer, gripping her tightly, his face contorted with rage.

"She is my wife, and if I ever see you trouble her again, I will kill you. I will ensure you regret deceiving me and everyone by falsely claiming that the child growing in your womb is mine. Soon, I will uncover the truth, and when I do, I will expel you from this castle. You shall never show your face here again," he threatened, his words filled with conviction.

As he pushed her forcefully to the floor, he abruptly walked away, leaving me to witness the distressing scene unfold before my eyes. I had anticipated finding satisfaction in witnessing his mistreatment of Alex, but an inexplicable sense of foreboding hinted that this nightmare had only just begun.

Alex rose to her feet and turned to face me. The intensity of her gaze revealed a blazing anger as she approached me with determined steps, her fury palpable.

"Don't believe for a moment that you've emerged victorious, Sierra. I shall ensure that your life becomes an unending torment."

Her words hung in the air, causing me to regret my decision to return here. As I stood up, studying her countenance, I could no longer recognize the Alex I once knew so well.

"Alex, I don't care what you intend to do to me. I don't understand what I've done to earn such hatred from you. I regarded you as a friend, as family. Why can't you just let me be?"

She chuckled dismissively in response, then turned to make her way toward the door, pausing briefly to fix her gaze upon me.

"The choice is yours now, Sierra. You can still leave while you have the chance, or you can stay and witness the permanent destruction of your life."

With those chilling words, she walked away, forcefully slamming the door behind her, rattling it as though it were on the verge of breaking. Confused and at a loss for words, I remained seated on the bed, my mind reeling.

Lying down, I attempted to shut my eyes and find solace, but an escalating unease rendered relaxation impossible. Alex's words echoed incessantly in my mind, refusing to relent.

I took a deep breath, attempting to banish her menacing presence from my thoughts, yet an unsettling conviction lingered, suggesting that her threats were not to be taken lightly.

Placing my trembling hands over my racing heart, I closed my eyes once more, whispering softly into the stillness.

"Oh, Goddess, please grant me guidance and protection."
